Definitely more of an eighties vibe in the new album. Which isn’t really surprising given how much they reference eighties culture (which is A LOT) in interviews. Would like to hear more of Jess finger picking electric guitar with effects on future projects. It would be the closing of the circle from DABAG.
Still trying to adjust to this new Staves style. Not there yet. This is a far cry from what they've done in the past. Not even close. I really hope they go back to the more pure indy folk 3 part harmony songs. This pop, mainstream stuff may appeal to a wider audience though, which is sad.
This doesn't feel like pop or even mainstream. I prefer their older songs too, but to me, this feels similar to their previous album If I Was, which also deviated a bit from the folk genre. I would classify this particular song as more country soft rock/indie. That's just my opinion though
