  • Gator swim! Hanging out with Casper after my tours yesterday! Talking about a lot of subjects and how Casper isn’t a pet or my friends. Also checkout our recent RUclips video talking about Pocho the famous Costa Rica crocodile, I reference it in this video!
You can come swim with me and Casper! I have tour openings this Friday and Saturday! We keep everything in low numbers and Covid safe. The tours have always been very small private groups anyways so it fits into the current guidelines, and we will be following CDC guidelines.
    .
The tour appeals to both adventurers and animal lovers, and I offer to shoot my own photo package for them as well. If you want to come join you can book online now, go to www.crocodilechris.com
Let me know if you want to go!! Share the water with alligators in a safe and controlled environment! This is done safely at the Everglades Outpost Wildlife Rescue in Homestead, Fl. It is for people of any skill level, you don’t have to be scuba certified, just have an interest in wildlife! This is a no contact experience! Observation and photos only at @evergladesoutpost

Casper is a good representative for his species. You can tell a lot of training went into being able to interact with him like this and that there is a level of trust and respect between you two. Like all predators, they all have unique temperaments and personalities, Casper is a unique individual for sure. I really like watching these interactions and have learned a lot by watching your channel. I’ve always loved great white sharks, but I am starting to appreciate the intelligence of a gator.

Casper is a very well behaved gator. Man I wish that I had all the tech that everyone has today.
I raised my gator for 22yrs from an egg. He ended up being 11ft 6in and 475lbs. I was always asked if Rex loves me or not? I said well its more of a mutual respect for each other. In the 22yrs he never tried to bite me. Now I have been head butted me. I had to go to the hospital and get 17 staples in my head. I was laying down next to him about 5ft from the water. The dog next door ran up to the fence that was about 15ft from us. He got spooked and jumped up and turned his head real quick. My head was in the way. Lol. He hit my head and turned the other way and was back in the pond. The reaction on the doctors and all of the nurses faces when they would find out what happened. It was ALMOST worth the headache. Lol.
I wish you all the very best. Take care and be safe.

That's kind of a ruse... This gator would tear him up if he wasn't doing that thing with his arm.
It's how he trained this gator to treat him with the respect the gator is forcefully showing him.
Definitely not friends, definitely not lover level, and definitely doesn't "enjoy" being whipped in place.
That said, he did literally just say all of these things in this video, and then some lol....

    • @greyscalesx
      @greyscalesx 2 года назад +8

@@dakota7025 that's not a ruse. Contrary to what you think animals aren't constantly laying in wait to eat you.
      They aren't crazed and bloodthirsty.
This guy is litteraly feeding him, he's fine.
      They have mutual beneficial relationship.
And so what if he would eat him If he died ?
Cats and dogs are mammals, MRI scans and other tests have shown their brains are developed in the zone where empathy lies and they can feel love.
Yet many have eaten their owners who had died in their homes.
So even those who feel, do respond to the call of instinct and survival.
They are animals and have different morals and live by the law of the jungle so to speak.
      So both are completely unrelated.
Reptiles might not empathise the same, it doesn't mean they are crazed killing machine with one working braincel

I know Casper is trained and not tame, but it is clear to see how much he trusts you, no signs of aggressive behaviour at all, it goes to show that these animals are totally misunderstood and not just a apex predator or killing machine, they normally want nothing to do with humans, and avoid us at all costs, unless they mistake us for a prey animal.
There is mutual respect between Casper and Chris, I believe Casper see Chris as a source of food, not actual food.
There have been cases where even a cat would eat a human body if they are trapped inside a building where their owner has passed away.
I also understand even Casper would eat you if you fell or got knocked unconscious.
Love your videos Chris, these animals have fascinated me since I was a child ( a very long time ago )

People have eaten people in extreme survival situations. I believe that dogs that eat deceased owners are in survival mode. They are starving until they are found. On another note, I completely agree with you that alligators are wild animals and would take an opportunity if given one. They don’t love us, they are wild animals with deeply imbedded instincts.

There was a study (or more than one) that showed that as you get hungrier parts of your brain start to actually shut down. One of the first parts to go is the part that generates the disgust response. So like if you were hungry and saw food in a trash can that you would never normally eat, if you were hungry enough you literally would not feel any aversion to it.

Love what you guys do especially when your educating the public about the animals. Interesting behavior I've noticed about my pet mice is, if I'm holding them or hand is in their enclosure the males ( mostly female's will as well just not as often) will bite at my hand or body part if I haven't moved for a while. Just to make sure we are alive. These animals are held and interacted daily (had them since birth) they are second and third generation. It's not fear response, it's more of " are you alive cuz if not I'm eating your fingers"

I love all of your videos! I'm curious as to what appears to be "affection." You've been very clear about how different they are (for example from a Labrador). But are they capable of any degree of affection? What he does certainly seems to indicate he seeks you out and likes to rest on you and "boop" you. Or is his motivation 100% from training? Is there any way of knowing?
Also curious about their level of intelligence. I can see he responds to his name, etc ... but how far beyond that does it go? Has there been any level of problem solving that has been observed?
    Thanks!

What makes birds unique from other reptiles is that they have a limbic system, which other reptiles lack that part of their brain to allow them to feel complex emotions such as love, but birds are different in the aspect that they do show lots of emotions and care for each other, which means dinosaurs also had a limbic system cause well birds are dinosaurs that is an undisputable fact, which also makes them reptiles as well.

Thanks, guys, for providing some sensible and informative commentary among all the rubbish that we see / hear on the internet. I'm not an animal behaviour expert but some of the things people say about human-animal interactions just make no sense. I have a question: While I'm convinced that mammals are capable of love, what about birds? They display behaviours that to us indicate love. They care for their young. Many are monogamous for life. They Look very happy when re-uniting with a spouse. They treat people as friends, if trust has developed. Do they love, or am I misinterpreting these behaviours? Thanks!

The dog thing can happen within minutes, especially if it is an anxious dog that loves you a lot. The dog tries to wake their human up with nips, tastes the blood and can't stop.

What if he worked at KFC all day, then did a cannonball in the pond? Would Casper bite his buddy? I wonder. Happy Holidays everyone

I worked for a funeral home for many years. I had at least one case when a cat fed on the corpse of its owner. I’m sure a gator would have no issue doing that.

Oh yes, cats and dogs both. Check out Caitlyn Doughty - Ask a Mortician. She has written a book on just that...

I was buying a bow it was a archery / taxidermy in monett Missouri in 2019 he had a alligator like 12 ft long, his head looked twice as big as the one you're playing with. And he was killed in Southeast Missouri. Not sure if it was the Mississippi or where they got him, but it gets cold in South East Missouri. Could have been Northeast Arkansas cold. And when I was a kid I was living in munford Tennessee, about a hundred miles north of Memphis. And we were swimming this rock pit. And one day we showed up and the water was all cloudy so we didn't get in. And sometime a little later there was alligators found in that rock pit . This is the mid-70s I was like 12. Alligators just kind of interest me I know I have seen alligator snapping turtles in North Dakota and alligators can hibernate right.

The training and conditioning involved is similar to taming a monitor lizard
