  • I had forgotten about the ferocious battle between Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso at the 2014 British Grand Prix. During the battle, I found another funny line from David Hobbs, longtime USA motorsports commentator. Seeing this makes me miss the Diffey/Varsha-Hobbs-Matchett team. I like the Sky Sports team now, but nothing can beat what we US viewers had for so many years.

I love how we all agree that David Hobbs is an honorary American.

Back when we actually had an American broadcast, talking to a U.S. audience, instead of some general English language broadcast talking AT whoever tunes in.

I eagerly anticipate the day these American F1 broadcasts are made widely available for viewing again, in their entirety.
They covered the sport from a sincere, professional, and compelling point of view.
I think the chemistry among the SPEED and NBC crews in particular was on another level.
Hopefully FOM can knock off the copyright claim abuse so that fans can enjoy seeing how F1 was covered in the US before Liberty Media came along. It's historical preservation.

I have been extremely used to the Sky Sports version, watching F1 from the US version hits so different

I wish more of the F1 community outside the US got to watch the SPEED (turned NBC) guys do F1 around that time, David Hobbs was an absolute legend in the box, then ESPN bought the rights and partnered with Sky :(. Not that I don't enjoy the likes of Crofty and the boys but the dynamic of the SPEED guys was incredible.

Bob Varsha at like 3am for European f1 races. Dude was a staple. Watched some old stuff where Varsha did Can Am races. Long hair. Epic

The US deserves it's own dedicated commentary team. Even Allen Bestwick would do a better job than Crofty, there's so much talent in the US commentator wise, and viewership is going UP.

All david croft does is scream and martin brundle is biased. I miss the F1 on NBC crew.
