    Loved the stretching exercises. If you would do more in depth and also explain what are the most common injuries in tennis, that would be great. Hey Ian, thanks for the videos!..
    I have a question for you.. When you are facing a match with a known opponent you can prepare some kind of tactic to approach the match.. but sometimes that tactic doesn't work right away, maybe because you are not able to execute it properly or maybe because it just isn't the right tactic. How can you tell whether it is time to change you tactic or just stick with it? (specially when points are too short) Thanks!

      that would be called static stretches. I THINK.

    • @miguelbarahona6636
      @miguelbarahona6636 7 лет назад

      Lance kaminsky: I don´t do static stretching exercises for legs after a match anymore. I use a foam roller for self massaging, and I csn tell I´ve never been better physically. Those stretches Ian does at 3:46 and 4:14 are good for elbow, do them regulary.

    Hi Ian, I recently have lost points and even matches due to my anger on the court. I was wondering if you have any tips for staying cool, calm, and collected on the court. Thank you!

    • @ihavesoul4real
      @ihavesoul4real 6 лет назад +2

      Dylan Kruse I used to get upset to the point of broken rackets due to too much pressure being placed on myself. Here are 3 things I learned and incorporated that helped me from ruining a nice tennis outing with a hitting partner. 1) feel and acknowledge your emotions swinging. This means at the first sign of frustration, have something to counter that negativity. I inwardly repeat "I am (deep breath in) at peace (deep breath out). I do that literally after every point bc I it is like a security blanket for my emotions. Use that tip and blend it into... 2) Take your time. If you hit a bad first serve, do not rush to hit your second. You deserve a moment to relax. You deserve to enjoy the moment. Take 10 seconds and focus on something that has nothing to do with tennis and then snap back in to game mode. The worse that can happen is a time violation but if we're being pushed over the brink with frustration, it is likely we were rushing the whole time. 3) Take time away from the game. If you are being dq'd from matches bc of anger, this is the world telling you that you are not fit to be playing structured matches. Take time to assess why you love the game and why it means so much to you. Many times we don't understand how much we loved something until it was gone and this is no different. You were smart to be so open about something that was too embarrassing for me to admit until I was into my adult life. Good luck to you. Hopefully even just one of these tips helped out.

    • @miguelbarahona6636
      @miguelbarahona6636 7 лет назад +1

      Daniel: Do this warm up, specially those at 1:00, 1:37, 2:00 ans 2:51. I have lower back problems and these have helped me a lot. I do 1 minute of each, begining slowly.

    • @TimeKillersAddendum
      @TimeKillersAddendum 6 лет назад

      I believe the knees to chest along with the hamstring leg raises. I think they helped alleviate pulling on my lower back.

    • @TimeKillersAddendum
      @TimeKillersAddendum 6 лет назад

      Any chance you will make a "cool down" routine?

    • @EssentialTennis
      @EssentialTennis  6 лет назад +1

      Awesome, Christian. I actually also had a lot of lower back problems in the past, and loosening my hamstrings has definitely helped a lot. You may want to work on your hip flexors and gluteus medius as well, both made a big impact for me.
      Unfortunately we don't have any free content on cool down routines yet, but that's a good idea! That's where you want to use static stretches to lengthen and loosen, as opposed to before activity. It's also a great time for fascial release as well using a foam roller or ball, etc. Hope that's helpful for now! -Ian

    • @DracMastah
      @DracMastah 9 лет назад +1

      Lunar Infinity I sometimes grunt and I think it helps me with my breathing and getting rythm (i.e. taking air in when muscles are "relaxed" and taking in out to be explosive). I tend to do it more when I'm agitated though

    • @DracMastah
      @DracMastah 9 лет назад +1
