Dude, you just know nothing about capitalism, it's impossible to make innovations accessible on the startup process, there's no competition at the beginning, the technology is expensive and they need to make money to compensate the investments.
The same happens with solar panels, and every other new techs.
In the future you may see electric long boards more accessible.

Beyond the boosted board they are promoting the development of electric motors and batteries. It amazes me they can produce an electric motor strong enough to carry a person up a 15 degree slope with such a small motor and also get an average 6 miles on a charge of the batteries is amazing. Can't wait to see what we will be doing in another ten years with these technologies.

I live in a beach community in Hawaii. It does rain here but not like in most areas. We are mostly flat in our terrain and with how many people flock to my neighborhood to enjoy the ocean, there is constant traffic. This will afford us the ability to travel into town without worrying about traffic, parking, etc. We can go the few miles to/from produce stands, shops, foodstores, etc. and not worry about anything. Wife and I can't wait to have these. You sound sour at the world. That's sad!

I have always wanted an electric board, I have done some sketches of them as well. Glad someone is doing it the right way. I am thinking about getting one, plus the top speed is amazing. 20 MPH is super fast, and the 6 miles per charge is not bad at all. I only lived 1 miles from where I work, I walk most of the time, but in a city like Fresno, the only people walking are not those you want to hang out, unless you live near a college or university.

"If you only have a mile..."
Not only a mile, but it can go up to like 6 miles.
Man, screw my car and the bus.
I'll wake up and go to school/work with a longboard like that then.
It still is a longboard at heart, so you still push and go like a normal longboard.
Plus it's controlled with a device at your thumb/hands.
The fun part is where you have the option to climb uphill with ease, then slide downhill.

Definitely great for college campuses, in fact i think that should be their target market, so they really need to get that entry price down to around 500 USD at least!. 2 versions, entry and deluxe would basically solve that issue.
The problem that I see with this product is when facing streets that aren't paved with gold (small wheels), medium to long distances (+3km) and most importantly overall safety.
So nice to have an actual intelligent conversation with someone on youtube =D.

I'm not affiliated with Boosted at all, just thought I might pipe in and give you a couple answers to my personal understanding. They said that the board will go up to 20mph and will keep that speed up a 15 degree incline. I don't know if that'll give you enough info to do the calculations, but there you go.
And yes, you can still push like a normal board. Just with a bit of extra drag.

Or having the option to buy the electronics as a kit to put on any board that I have rather than buying the board provided. I really like the concept though.

Most people who use mass transit are older folks, and either by fear of falling or preconceived notions of skateboarders will prevent them from buying. So this is definitely a niche market for those young college kids who don't have the money for a car, but their parents are willing to spring for that board.

  • @shamonyu

Even a little resistance is going to be a problem when you have to kick it around. Perhaps a small derailer of sorts could disengage the belt from the wheel (sprocket) when its out of juice.

  • @sf2vegas2

I think this product is meant to encourage people to not use their vehicle as often and use public transit with this board as an incentive to make trips faster--closing the gap of time between a car ride and the use of public transit. By getting people to not use their cars, the average persons activity level increases significantly.

Great idea guys. Keep up the awesome work! now only if Part of the deck was made with solar panels...some panels you can stand on with soft soled shoes.

I hope you will make exchangeable bateries so i could have couple of them in my bag, whole day trip would be nice, and would expand posibilities :)

This is really cool. Would be better to put it in a bicycle hub. IMO.

well you would probably be able to still slide seeing its Otangs, but freestyle would be risky because failing something like a kick flip (such as classic, or ghostride) or treflip would pretty much smash the motor. and its much heavier the the original board. it probably still wobbles if you can't balance well, and on a hill over 20mph it might be able to handle it or might break the motor, depending on how strong the motor is

i believe using it like a regular longboard will be like trying to use an electric scooter, like a normal scooter
