The weirdest part is the fact that Chennai Express was directed by Rohit Shetty, a South Indian. The lead actress, Deepika, is also a South Indian.
Part of the blame goes to South Indian actors and actresses for accepting roles that make fun of their culture. Actors/actresses will do anything for money.
Rohit Shetty's mother is a north indian and he cannot speak tulu.

NorthEast is Part of India Not China . Why people still don't understand this & there's a lot diversity in our nation . People of different states have different culture , language, food habits and clothing styles. Also we look so different from each other. Instead of appreciating the beauty eachothers culture we are trolling people. We should stop discriminating against all the Indian people who come from different states. Jai Hind ❤
Not to mention Hollywood is doing a better job! Casting a Tamilian for Tamil role and giving him all due respect.
Dhanush 🔥
Dude i'd say it is because of image maintainance and target audience of nowadays.
Didn't bollywood have actors nowadays from other parts of india too rather than UP, Delhi or Mumbai?
I had forgotten it's name but hollywood produced a movie which has storyline in India and for that they had a white man colored to potray as an Indian.
So yeah world is changing due to cummulative efforts of multiple decisions.

I’m from Chhattisgarh, despite being part of Hindi belt we have zero representation in Bollywood. When I saw Malayalam movie “Unda” I cried my heart out. It was for the first time I saw my state and people being represented so beautifully. They even casted one of the local actor to play an important side character. Music of that film was culturally rooted. And most importantly the movie successfully depicts the struggle of tribals in hands of armed forces and militants.

It was shot in South India - Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad. You can still see a lot of sets open for the public to view like the stairs from the temple, the train station, the village of meenamma.

As a south Indian, Chennai express movie was such a cultural shock to me.

The depiction was pretty in line with other Tamil films. A controlling gangster father with army an of goons fighting or tryin' to increase his power. Also, Chennai express was based around the Tamils, not the entire South India. Cultural shock is to be expected if you're non-tamil south indian.

But they had some backward stereotypes as well. The mother uses an accent which is nowhere close what South Indian mums would sound like. It seems they are more connected to the roots and love Indian culture way more than we do.
I do not agree with this, why always say North Indian has lost their culture, when in reality we are also as cultural as any other part of india? I also respect South indians but saying we have lost our culture and loot is just not ok anymore, yes we were invaded and that is the reason we don't have as many temples as south, but don't forget we also have Vrindavan, Matura, gokul, Rishikesh, Haridwar, Badrinath, Kelash and himalayas too...

@@Sun1326 see you just proved it. You have only mentioned some places. In south we never talk about places with temples, mosques or churches. We are not interested. We all love the historical cities in different parts of India.
The fact is we don’t have the privilege of seeing many movies that depict the rich culture of North or the lives of people who are rooted to their culture . Only a handful of them (in Bollywood movies) we have seen and we appreciated them too. Usually the story or the content in Bollywood movies doesn’t showcase the unity in diversity as they call themselves Indian cinema. They have time and time represented South as if it is to be ridiculed. This doesn’t fit a great culture and great cinema. That’s the point.
@babyyoda1988 bro North Indians do have preserved their cultures so maybe it is possible that some people have forget about thier cultures like you then I can't say but I would request you don't take whole north .. because the rest follows and respect thier cultures

And its fair to say not only Bollywood every North Indian has this kind of thinking. But now that I'm living in Chennai I must say this is the best place in my view. I have been in Mumbai, Pune, Noida and many other places. But Chennai for me stands out because I had no clue that it is so amazing. I have had most fun here and also discovered I love beaches. I do miss Maharashtrian food but I'm amazed by the variety of food we have here... and the beauty, cleanliness (in comparison to other cities in India), people, architecture, history of this beautiful place. I really had misconceptions about South Indians, I'm glad I married my husband 😁

One who is born and brought up in Delhi in an era when there was no real and authentic exposure to South Indian culture. 80s, 90s, etc. I can say things may have improved a little but not drastically. We should never take movies so lightly as it does portray or help creating perception about a culture and people. What has been portrayed through a movie character does leave the perception in people's from other region about the people and their culture which was showcased in that movie.
I believe people should not be blamed for this. Its basically the movie director or the team who have access or seen the people and culture of that particular region and still decides to portray the character in that way.

Wait till you see a South Indian person stereotype you as a “labourer”on your face, the other stereotypes fall short. I don’t mind the stereotype of Bengalis being smart or loving Tagore or even food but just because you have migrant workers from some place calling that place poor and the people who clean our places and do manual labour are from Bengal hurts more :)
Also you people eat fish, drink fish and sleep fish.

People from other states cannot fight against the discrimination faced by you. It is *you* who has to step up and take the required action. Start a grassroot organisation and create public awareness. It's much easier in this era of social media. You can create a video talking about your problems, for example.
Instead of doing something for your people you are whining and complaining under this video where a South Indian is addressing the issue affecting people of the south states...
It wasn't so bad when there was a strong Bengali influence in Bombay. I guess till the 70s and 80s. Bengali movies used to be regularly remade in Hindi. Being Telugu I am really happy that Tollywood movies are Box office success in National and International level, and as happy I am that these people with any success to South movie suddenly call it a Indian movie (which I am fine with) but believe me there isn't much change in reality. South Indians make fun of North Indians too. Most South Indians call North Indians Seth, Singh and Vadakans. According to South Indians no matter if you are Marathi, Bengali or Gujrati you are North Indian. I am not trying to pick up a fight but I am a North Indian Hindu Punjabi living in Chennai for 30 plus years and whenever I say my mother tongue is Punjabi the people are like "Oh Singh, Balle Balle, Gulla, Bhangra, oh yes Sardar joke, Santa Banta." So yeah we Indian collectively never try to learn or respect each others culture. That's the fact my dear brothers and sisters.
@@WashingPowderNirma2.0 As a South Indian I lived in Delhi we were called "madrasi". Come on ! Even chennai is not madras any more, for them be it kannadiga , malayali or Telugu speaking person evryone are madrasi , we also feel the same
@@rakshith701 I feel for you bro. Hugs
The cringest movie award of the decade goes to "Chennai Express"
Fun fact: One of the highest grossing Hindi movies of the year 😂
I don't know how people watched that movie
@@Girish_Rao the people who not have any idea about tamilnadu may have watch and get orgasm
@@NirmalPillaiOriginal stop this regionalism bro , u can't get taste of originality of a region if it is potrayed by another , use some brain dude. And irony is that u guys have taboo of bollywood and in past don't even release their movies like Sholay and still expecting that they will put their time and effort to potray your region on point.😃
@@Girish_Rao simple cuz they are not from south and they don't care.
excellent sense of humour brother, keep it up
You just did what was unexpectedly expected. Go on.🎉
i'm north indian but most of my friends are south indians bc i live in singapore and I watch so many south indian films lowkey get annoyed at the misrepresentation in bollywood because i've seen and experienced the culture. This was so hilarious please keep making more

Hatred against South Indians is the reason for bad depiction of South Indians in Hindi movies.
I was also having huge stereotype abt south indian ...but thanks to my bua who is living in kerela since 7 years .
.who taught and explained me everything abt south indians ...due to which I got so much interest in south culture that I learned telugu ..and learning Malayalam. 😅😅...and next month I am going kerela , bengaluru chennai ...for travel ...excited to visit the whole diffrent world ....coz each state in india feels like a diffrent country .. ⚠️

Welcome to South India ❤️ but put aside those bullywood stereotypes and enjoy the real world ❤️
Welcome to TN in advance ..🙏
I'm an North Indian, and Tbh you deserve more subs!! Bollywood comes from Bombay + Hollywood, and has zero representation of north india as well, they're pretty much black and white, whilst we're in the grey side, dear fellow brothers and sisters from south we're not like this!! the representation is usually "punjabi" and the common representation of south india is "madras" as they call it, probably showing Tamil culture. India is diverse, from South-west, to North-east nobody is even known of! although we're all very beautiful >>>
let's boycott such systems, and make one big indian cinema

Peaks..next level video with so many minute details.. enjoyed a lot
4:58 caught me off guard
The Family Man Season 2 is probably the only Hindi show that has shown respect for the South India language and culture. They did a really good thing by casting south Indian actors to play the south Indian characters. I didn't find any typical South Indian stereotype in this.
Only show that shows tamil freedom fighter as terrorist
I don’t even see north or north east or Maharashtrian or gujju in south films
Because the directors are from South Indian
You mean that extra brownish face of Samantha to make her look more Tamil?
Its because the directors are from south india andhra pradesh
This is frickin' hilarious, machaa!

Love your intro bro
The funniest part of Chennai Express is the female lead and Director are both South Indians 😂
they are barely south Indian, just because your sperm came from a south Indian it doesn't make you one.
South Indians in 2 states represented as high fi fashionable, fair looking etc although reality is far from what represented southies are happy with it🤣

@@lll2282that’s your assumption that South Indians are happy about how a Tamil girl is represented in 2 States. Its totally wrong how they portrayed Alia Bhatt’s role. i am a north indian and ngl i enjoyed chennai express a lot (on a lighter note) but yes bollywood has a really long way to go in proper and respectful representation and casting considering how diverse our country is, the quality graph is rather going down, on the other hand, i just love south indian cinema
Mithun Dada..100000% great, Accurate potrail of madrasi south indian Iyer.iyer surname is usually used by brahmins...iyer means priest...they are the lowest cast and they sell coconut. Greatest characterization of south indian..madrasi iyer people. This is how all iyers talk and behave and of course sell coconut water. They all want to learn, speak hindi like rest of north indians but fail miserably but be careful Dont mess with them..they will lift their lungi....of course they dony wear underwear.
