Back in the 80's, my roommates & I (me in a metal band, the others in funk & pop bands) use to listen to these guys with dropped jaws. Now, thirty years after those nearly thirty years, these guys remain absolutely amazing!

my favorite all time vocal group. I met them at Coral Gables night club in E Lansing, Michigan in 1957. They were very personable and welcoming to their fans. Unique style and harmony was so easy to listen to.

I never got to see them perform, (I was working too) but I've been a fan of The Four Freshmen as long as I can remember. Even when the group changed members, they kept their harmony and style, and it is incredibly beautiful. As a musician I can appreciate every nuance and the way this group presents some of the best old standards that have, like me, been around for years, but their value is proved by all the many who perform these great old song, where the lyrics are' meaningful and relatable and STILL pull at my heartstrings!

OMG, these guys were just soooo good. It's also interesting to compare this lineup with today's; Bob Flanigan will be the 1st to say it: today's group hits these notes just as clean--but with Brian Eichenberger's soaring high tenor, it makes a huge difference. Also, Bob & Vince are both so strong in their lower notes, the Harmony seems stronger. --Both are sensational. Real close harmony. Wolfsky9

A peerless group which influenced countless other musical groups, including the Beach Boys.
Just having moved to Chicago in 1965 I saw them at Arie Crown Theatre with the Kenton Orchestra and June Christy. I got the last available seat, front row center. It was like going to heaven. The concert start to finish was perfect.

Left the Club Alliance (Yokosuka, Japan) one morning and took a bus ride to see this show in person.May have been a rehearsal, but they were great, The Japanese band a knock-out...Sorry but what I saw was live, enough microphone pops and clicks, gaffs and such to make you appreciate the professionalism of all around putting on a live show for the servicemen.these guys were great and greatly appreciated by us stationed out there on the moon....

Yes, but also he got from Doo-wop, he liked groups of that genre like Jan And Dean and Dion And The Belmonts. In songs like Car Crazy Cutie or Surfin' and the Surfin' Safari album you can notice the musical style of Doo-Wop.

You may be surprised to learn that the male singing groups from MoTown also claimed the be influenced by the harmony of the Freshmen; specifically, the Temptations. Good harmony transcends all genres.

I met them in 1964 at Elitch's Gardens Denver. Bill Comstock used to be in a group called The Standouts with Bob Jackson, Bud Warner and Lee Raymond. Bill went with The Freshmen and Jack Tafoya joined. They had Denver pianist Bud Poindexter and he left and wonderful guitarist Paul Raley joined. The Standouts were great! I was married to Bob Jackson. Bob was a superb singer and musician who wanted to be called an entertainer.

@mharbaugh Would it be possible to get this video (even a copy)? Would it be available in Japan? I first saw the Freshman in London in 1960 - and they have made me feel good ever since. It was amazing they got their sound through just one microphone. Their style of harmony was unique - such a warm sound. And boy could they swing - my favourite swinging number is " Day by Day". The five 5 trombones are perfect for "Angel Eyes". Thanks for posting this.
