  • If you're confident making jewellery, you may be considering getting started with stone setting. But setting needs a few specific skills in addition to those you might use metalsmithing, specifically bur control, and the only way to get control is to practice. But we don't always want to practice by ruining a few dozen settings in the process right?
It would be kind of nice to have a little fun during the whole process! So one of the first things you can do to on your journey to mastering bur control is to create textures. In this video, the textures are created with a 4mm heart bur and they're a little more controlled than in our first video and the finish is entirely different despite using the same bur. Give it a try and let me know what you think!
Here's a FREE E-BOOK to find out the tools you absolutely must have to get started, where to splurge and where to save.

Would you recommend NSK micro motor (which one) or GRS Graver Max? Or...? Thank you again CWW (Caffeinated Wonder Woman)!

Anything you like! I'm going to add ear wires to these and a few stone settings! but they could be super interesting chain links if you added the texture all around. It's just an exercise to really help get the bur control necessary for prong setting. But hey, if we are going to practice something, we may as well enjoy it right!? xx
