@ripterdusk4736 I'm not sure if I'm right, but my first thought was that he says 'he hopes that we're never at the top' while actually standing at the top of a building so it means that he hopes we never end up being in that situation (he doesn't want anybody to end their life by jumping off)
As others have pointed out, the progression in height is also a progression of anxiety, danger, fear so he hopes we’re never experiencing the top of those.
i actually think its more of a reference of getting to the top in fame. but the building might be alluding to that as well. Since most people who are famous struggle with fulfillment and always want more. He might be saying that we never get to the position hes at where he has everything but also feels like he has nothing. I might be wrong tho.
actually started crying at “lost a full year” in snap back. that song means so much to me. i truly lost a full (school) year to depression and loneliness. it’s very reassuring to know that there’s a song for me.
well idk where you come from but i can say emphatically: same. if you ever need someone to talk to, im poptivist here and insta and twitter and gmail or at a show. i got ur back. ❤️
Snap back stays my favourite. The feeling of slowly getting back up, knowing you've just lost all progress that you've made. The aftermath of Backslide.
My first ever ”Oh, we are so back!” The comfort of your voice. The shocking ability of your hearing. Your silly humor. It’s not a full experience for me until your content arrives!
This is so interesting. I love that they put all these layers into their music that 95% of the people listening aren’t going to hear. Thank you for making this!!
This whole video is great, but I am shocked at that final line. "I hope that you're never at the top". I never heard that before, and I've listened to that song so many times! I mean, the majority of the stuff in this video was new to me, but they're also all background stuff, so that makes sense. But that line is a main line, and I can't believe I never noticed they switched it up! That's wild!
i’ve heard different voices in Snap Back and i’m so grateful for this video to pick them out 😭 it’s my favorite on the album 4:15 the “short melodic lyric” almost sounds like “get on the ground”? also the atrofd extra lyrics are so nice and hit so hard piling ontop of the already impactful lyrics
recently in snap back i think ive also heard backing vocals that sound like its a female? 👀 not sure tbh but i swear i can hear smt especially during the choruses
i can *kind* of hear gourmet and wouldn't be surprised if both words were said, but i feel strongly that i hear the other phrase more. thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Brilliant video! Some of that layering on Snap Back is hard to hear even with the help, so it must've been challenging to find out what was said. But it all adds to the complexity of the songs; I didn't think I could appreciate the album's production any more but here are!
“Lost a full year” also goes well with “all of that progress lost today.”😭 Lol I’m limiting my time on Twitter otherwise I would comment on your post on there.
great video as always! i have a thought i'm wondering what you think of. on the first snapback one, i definitely hear "less than a full year" and then "lost a full year" is much more pronounced on the second repeat. given the song's themes of relapse, "less than a full year" also makes sense to me (as in, my streak didn't even last a full year). but i keep waffling on whether i am actually hearing it or not (especially bc i saw someone on twitter say it first so i can't tell if i'm just now predisposed to hear what i expect to hear). also those atrofd ones HURT
@deinodinosuchus i can get behind this. it does sound different on that first utterance but my brain didn't seem to be able to parse a variation that made sense.
😭 the lost a year really hit hard... I had many panic attacks last year and im going to middle and this hits so freaking hard😭. Also this was a badass video!
this is amazing, thank you lua! please make more of these, on clancy or even the other albums, if you can. it adds so much to the way we perceive and value the production
holy freaking cow, this is genuinely an amazing video and it's made so well. I was watching this on my TV and found this on my phone to comment because tbh it was that good =)
thank you so much! a kind word always gives me fuel to make more, so i really appreciate it :') (there's another 5 things video in my analysis playlist!)
hopping back into these comments to say that ever since i watched this video, "yeah yeah woah yeah" has been stuck in my head on a loop. someone please help lol
OKAY so in lavish.... I hear "jer day gour la" and in Hindi that translates to "enjoy every day!" I could be wrong (cause I was using google translate) but I find this very *interesting!* Also "jer day gour le" is "Next day enjoy" in Italian! OR "jer day, gour le" is "yesterday, enjoy it"
when i say "official lyrics" i mean in the lyric booklet and their respective music videos. I don't have apple music. the french-speakers I've spoken to have yet to find a way to say "feeling gourmet" in a way that sounds like this, so i guess I'm saying: could be! 🤷♀️
oh man. if you want? there's a whole thing tho where there's only a fixed number of decibels a given range can hit, and not every range (bass, vocals, fx, other -- or an 8/9 part model) can all hit that volume. so if you look at the last "you may not have heard" video i did you will find things that cannot be heard as easily if all strains parts of the same song are played at equal volume. so it would be like. "same, but it's really hard to hear (and intentionally so)."
this is just one layer of vocals. pretty often different vocal layers are saying different things with this band. "i hope that you're never at the top" makes sense to me in the context of "progression of height." it's tyler’s ambivalence about being reached out to in his darkest hour that's the topic of this song, so it makes sense to me that he would say "i hope you're never in the position I'm in."
It was "confusion"???? This video is underrated frfr (Edit: I used the wrong word and accidentally called the video overrated when I wanted to say otherwise)
''I hope that you're never at the top'', damn, this actually adds so much to this song and it's my favourite on Clancy

@ripterdusk4736 both
thats a choice too
As others have pointed out, the progression in height is also a progression of anxiety, danger, fear so he hopes we’re never experiencing the top of those.
The fact that there's two meanings to this phrase..
i actually think its more of a reference of getting to the top in fame. but the building might be alluding to that as well. Since most people who are famous struggle with fulfillment and always want more. He might be saying that we never get to the position hes at where he has everything but also feels like he has nothing. I might be wrong tho.
The idea of "grow it back" being in the background of snap back when the video is him cutting his hair off and losing a streak of growth 😭😭 DHMU
The left and right could be the banditos marching
i always heard it as clancy clancy like them chanting his name

you just made a shit day into a great day (i know it's only 6 am)
This is so interesting. I love that they put all these layers into their music that 95% of the people listening aren’t going to hear. Thank you for making this!!
I always heard that "confusion" lyrics but thought it was a random scream background

@@pierogi-muncher20 it is definitely a higher voice, but i’m 99% sure it’s just tyler’s voice pitched up
the left and rights add SO MUCH
The left right left could have been hinting to marching to Dema or even the “march to the sea” which is the annual assembly of the glorified
awesome video! the dialogue from tyler in Lavish is 100% "Champagne, Gourmet" in my ears though, it just makes the most sense too 😭😭
i can *kind* of hear gourmet and wouldn't be surprised if both words were said, but i feel strongly that i hear the other phrase more. thanks for sharing your thoughts!
“Feeling gourmet” is in the Apple music lyrics.
i have heard this! but i just don't hear it.
Brilliant video! Some of that layering on Snap Back is hard to hear even with the help, so it must've been challenging to find out what was said. But it all adds to the complexity of the songs; I didn't think I could appreciate the album's production any more but here are!
these layers are so interesting! I also loveee the backround noises in midwest indigo, when tyler screams or yells 'boo boo boo'
“Lost a full year” also goes well with “all of that progress lost today.”😭
Lol I’m limiting my time on Twitter otherwise I would comment on your post on there.
i can’t believe i never heard the alt. chorus in at the risk of feeling dumb! i want an alternate mix of the song so bad now
wow I never really noticed some of these! This is so interesting and I’m glad you brought this up. Makes the songs even more special :D
This all adds so much depth that I would’ve never even known about if not for this video 🤯 thank you for making this

ohhh i agree with this after relistening! it sounds like two syllables in the first one and i agree it makes a lot of lyrical sense regarding relapse
@deinodinosuchus i can get behind this. it does sound different on that first utterance but my brain didn't seem to be able to parse a variation that made sense.
Thank you, Lua! I hadn't heard most of these. It's fascinating to see what lyrics are underneath the surface.
this video just cemented Snap Back as my favorite from the album
😭 the lost a year really hit hard... I had many panic attacks last year and im going to middle and this hits so freaking hard😭.
Also this was a badass video!
Going to middle school????
Tyler picks up where the Beatles left off in studio production so cool great video
You got good ears
Awww the Ro! Ro! Ro! killed me its so cute :')
When I remember that Tyler used different vocals to make the song more "hype", so this is awesome and makes perfect sense
no way, I thought the “confusion” line said “I feel good” and was a gospel sample 🤯
OVERCOMPENSATE ONES ARE SO COOL
I never would have known this!
this is amazing, thank you lua! please make more of these, on clancy or even the other albums, if you can. it adds so much to the way we perceive and value the production
if you go back thru my theory playlist there's one that includes trench and sai!!
also thank you for the compliment

it is good to hear your voice
Ro! Ro! Ro! Ro! Ro!
😢
these vocal filters are so good thoo
Lavish a Apple Music lyrics say “feeling gourmet” in it
i would love to learn where they get their input bc tøp official sources are historically and notoriously minimal
love your videos, thanks for pulling out these moments!
thank you so much for watching!
this is so cool to me
the snap back one is definitely just 'yeah yeah woah yeah' the whole way through
interesting take!
Absolutely love this
Awesome stuff. 😊
Super interesting!
2:54 and then there’s me who hears “2 pairs of garlic” 🤣
we never know 😌
maybe lefts and rights in vignette will be used on concerts
I thought in lavish he said "shouldn't get an appointment"
love this video!
It sounds like he’s saying the ice won’t crack in snap back
ooh that's a great guess. didn't think of that combination of sounds
i thought it was "today, gourmet"
I KNEW it wasn’t feeling gourmet, that didn’t sound like it at all
The Yeah’s from Lavish are the same ones from the song Doubt!
maybe i'm a music maniac cause i already heard all of this backing vocals haha
Lua ur too good❤
pff ❤️
Well actually, in lavish it is “feeling gourmet” bc i use apple music, and when i look at the lyrics it says “feeling gourmet”
when i say "official lyrics" i mean in the lyric booklet and their respective music videos. I don't have apple music. the french-speakers I've spoken to have yet to find a way to say "feeling gourmet" in a way that sounds like this, so i guess I'm saying: could be! 🤷♀️
Can you give a tutorial on how you got the layers?
email me at poptivist@gmail.com and while I can't give the method bc i didn't split the layers but I can point you to where I found them
But what does he say before the Penny loafer squeak
one, two, listen to me: now rhyme
could you do this again with the originals to compare?
oh man. if you want? there's a whole thing tho where there's only a fixed number of decibels a given range can hit, and not every range (bass, vocals, fx, other -- or an 8/9 part model) can all hit that volume. so if you look at the last "you may not have heard" video i did you will find things that cannot be heard as easily if all strains parts of the same song are played at equal volume.
so it would be like. "same, but it's really hard to hear (and intentionally so)."
How do you split the audio like this?
Isn’t it “that you never have to drop” instead of “that you’re never at the top”? The latter lyric makes no sense in the context of the actual song
this is just one layer of vocals. pretty often different vocal layers are saying different things with this band. "i hope that you're never at the top" makes sense to me in the context of "progression of height." it's tyler’s ambivalence about being reached out to in his darkest hour that's the topic of this song, so it makes sense to me that he would say "i hope you're never in the position I'm in."
