  • Taking off in the English bad weather with a full load of bombs and gasoline was hard enough. But what about LANDING in bad weather with a full load of bombs and gasoline with one engine out. And as you're coming in for a landing - it all goes wrong. Listen to B17 pilot Wayne Stump describe this harrowing experience of trying to keep a crippled B17 in the air as it skimmed over roof tops.

God bless him and all the guys who sucked it up, and those who gave it all. I am humbled every time I read one of these.

Great story! I’ve never been so scared I couldn’t light a smoke. Incredible.

I feel such overwhelming sadness that these Men and women are effectively gone. They should have got a bonus decade or two or three. I mourn all the opportunities lost, to collect the memories they still carried.
Thank you so much for these. I wish there was 1 000 times the amount. 10,000 times the amount.

@@raymondmcfalone26 Just left you a message. Not sure if alive today, but nobody has said he has died. Clarence E Anderson. 'Bud' Highest score LIVING ace. 16 1/4 kills
Would love you to interview him if you can. He is still active. Goes to Nampa Idaho WW2 meet each year. They would probably give his details to you?

Thank you for preserving these brave men's stories. I was stationed at RAF Mildenhall years ago and had the privilege of going through The Eagle Pub in Cambridge. It was a hangout for bomber guys during the war and the ceiling has places where guys used their lighters to write things; still there all these years later. There was an older gentleman who would sit alone from time to time, he is (or was) the historian that had done all the research of the different units and individual people who had been there and where they were based. There were several bases around Bury St. Edmunds back then. I highly recommend a visit to anyone who has a trip to England planned for someday.

Nampa Idaho has a ww2 meet and I think it has the highest LIVING ace calling in. He is 100ish but was still quite sharp minded. Anything could happen - even yesterday - but could you interview him if he is still alive?
    He has 16 1/4 kills.
Bunked with Chuck Yaeger for a while. Married the widow of a close chum who was lost. I would love to see one of your interviews with him
His name is 'Bud' Clarence E. Anderson.
Maybe you could get his details and interview him urgently?

Georgie, unless he lives in the San Francisco Bay Area (where I live) then either a family member, friend or videographer in his area should interview him without delay.
