  • George Arnold was a bombardier on a B17 that crashed behind enemy lines. Listen to his story of trying to make it back to the allied lines. You will ask yourself “could I engage in hand to hand combat with the enemy and kill with a knife?” George Arnold found out the answer to that question. This is an amazing story of survival.

    I like the way you don't frame questions. You ask more generally and let them answer.

      Thanks. You try and ask open ended questions and then get out of the way. Thanks for watching.

    These interviews are great to watch - thank you for recording and posting them, lest these men's stories be lost. what a group of modest heroes...

    I never knew any of these men but I miss em all. I remember I got a little cardboard B17 for Christmas of '43 and I dropped marbles on German maps that were in the package. Strange how suddenly some memory will pop up.

    I can't believe how little this gentleman has changed from the photo of him as a baby to now!

    Great work as always! The value of the life history interviews are priceless. I have done my share before 911 and going back to active duty. I had a small video production company. Retired Navy but will do an intervew when the opportunity arises.

    These oral histories are just great. I wish I had done this with my Dad before he passed. He never spoke much about the war other than telling us we were lucky the torpedo that hit his ship was a dud.

    Hey Ray , just like me I think deep down you would have wanted to be a pilot or for that matter any crew member on a B 17 in the 390 th during WW 2 , Thanks again , Mark Battista

    Wonder about the story of the enlisted guys who bailed out and got to Paris??!!

    • @cultofgiovanni
      @cultofgiovanni Год назад +1

      "One member of the crew, Thomas E. Eason, bailed out at too low an altitude and was killed before his parachute could fully deploy. The other nine members of the crew landed safely in France, and were returned to active duty."
