    Amen, brother! I just booked a 5 night stay in Nashville for 280,000 HH points that covered the $3,720 it would have cost. That was 1.32¢ per point redemption!!
    When we were looking I found multiple (at least 20) options for over .75¢ per point value as well. This was in multiple cities in the 7-8 states that we were looking for a specific week. So, I totally agree that those who discount Hilton Honors points are spitting out junk they heard somewhere else. Not to mention the fact that Hilton and their associated credit cards give out tons of points per dollar. Generally it’s more than other chains and their credit cards from what I’ve found.

    The most correct statement I have ever heard, I had similar crazy experiences when I booked to my brother 42 days in Turkey which costed me 210k plus Diamond status and giving a gold status because we reached 42 nights plus 20k bonus after reached 40 nights so we only spent 190k points instead of $6300 for regular rooms when in fact that my brother and his wife got mini suite for 30 days with his gold status and 12 days full suite with his Diamond status. So actually the price was supposed to be paid 3X of the $6300.

    My first experience with Hilton is getting the Surpass card and getting the 130K point bonus. Tried to book my very first Hilton hotel, found a cheaper price online and applied for a price match, spent.an hour or two on the phone and via email, gave them photographic evidence of the exact same room type and dates, and they wouldn't honor it.
    And for anyone wondering, to book that room with points was literally a 0.25 cents per point redemption. 60K points for a $150/night hotel. I regret ever getting a Hilton card and won't be staying with them.
    I got 150K bonus with the IHG Premier card and have already booked eight nights at two different hotels and I'm not even halfway through the bonus points, that's how valuable those points are.

I stay at hotels ~10 weekends per year in various cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York, but I always go for the absolute cheapest "acceptable" hotel that I can find. These hotels are almost always less than $200/night (often around $150/night), and it is very difficult to get more than 0.5 cents per Hilton Honors point in this scenario. On the other hand, MR points provide very decent value on United "saver" economy flights, booked through partners.

Booking with LH isn’t what it used to be. The availability of flights is a joke and meanwhile you gotta pay like 800 Dollars on taxes and so on for a „free bonus flight“. I concentrated very much on Hilton Honors the last two years. For us it was the best decision. We made great trips and stayed in decent hotels like the Conrad Midtown Manhattan or at the London Hilton Bankside. In Chicago we will stay five nights at the Waldorf Astoria. The widely respected credit card authority “The Points Guy” claims that Hilton Honors points are worth $0.006 per point, based on their database. Luke, how do we as consumers reconcile that figure with the elevated values you report in this video? 🤔

    • @LukesPointsandMiles

      **edited. My first response wasn’t fair. I’m sure his value can be seen as fair or correct, however if you take all the terrible redemptions and either choose not to stay there or use cash, then that will leave the properties with better redemptions. With almost 600 properties, you can be choosie when finding a property to redeem your points. There are many great options.

    You know. The other day I was looking at booking at a Hilton (the same one you mentioned in Savannah) for my wife. I was looking at the points value. I don't have a Hilton card, so I was looking at transferring my points to Hilton. It struck me that, even if you get 1:2 MR:Hilton, you're doubling your cpp. For instance, a room I was looking at for 5 nights at $1761 would be 60k a night (or 240k points because 5th night is free; that's 0.73 cpp. But, if I transfer the points over, I'm really only using 120k MR points, so it comes out to 1.47 cpp. I don't fly international, so I struggle to use my points; I think Hilton could be a good transfer since MR points are easy to accumulate (luckily I have the trifecta). I'm glad you pointed out the same thing. I was almost feeling crazy because people were using, essentially, half the valuation for Hilton points.

    • @LukesPointsandMiles
      @LukesPointsandMiles  Год назад

      The problem with a blanket value for points is the blogger generally use “the average” redemption value. So even the really terrible ones go into the equation. You as the travelers you’re only going to use your points to stays for, most likely, the top 50% of redemptions. So while the average could be x, you’re going to get at least Y or you’re not using points.
