Last fall I drove through Ontario for the first time and when we passed the sign for Bobcaygeon my mom couldn’t understand why I got so excited. So I put on this song and we listened to bobcaygeon while driving past bobcaygeon. Kind of an epic moment for me lol
Used to play hockey in bobcaygeon every now and again growing up, everytime I pass the sign I start to sing the song

I was there as a teenager with 2 childhood friends
and 37 some years and we still get connected by
having a couple beers and listen to Gord Downie
without speaking a word to each other. like if we're
lost in time.

July 2024 in Toronto. I grew up not far from Kingston. Canada and the world were blessed to have the Hip while growing up. Great story telling about Canadian history and ferociously proud Canadians. Tough to get a good seat in Toronto to see the hip so I went to small town new York and had great seats. RIP Gord Downie. Life is not fair and you were taken to soon.

The Hip always got into such a great groove when they were playing live.

I was taking summer classes in college and missed this performance. I really wanted to go to this too... glad i missed it, i remember the mess this festival turned into. bunch of greedy promoters got their claws onto this thing and pumped the prices of everything through the roof. caused a riot when concert goers, who were dehydrated due to the high temps in the summer got upset at the price gouging going on for water, so they stormed the concessions to get stuff to drink. just a giant mess that grew worse. people died from dehydration, there were gang rapes going on and the concert organizers were such profiteers they didn't even hire security, so when the whole thing started to devolve into mad max there was no security to stop it.
