I'm 44 and only started playing a week ago, due to a motorcycle accident that means I can't work at the moment. I love the game and will try and get my 6yo lad to play it. 🙏
Thanks so much! My boys are getting close to legitimately beating me since I made this video. They barely need any redos now. I appreciate you taking the time to comment.
Yes, and sometimes you have to give them the mechanics and let them discover the strategy on their own. Some people just prefer to play the game and learn the strategies that way
I'm just starting to teach my son chess and this is just what I was looking for. I like the advice on letting him win and lose. Definitely with you on not shielding from disappointment. What I do notice is that when he's enjoying it, a lot of knowledge seems to seep in, not necessarily something I've shown but something he just gets. Will definitely keep going as I'd love us to play it many years ahead.
My son is four and has been flipping around in an old Bobby Fischer puzzle book. Now I’m teaching him chess on an old Kasparov computer chess board from the early 2000s. Pawns only. I’m looking to see how to progress him through the movements of the pieces. Excellent video. I needed these tips. Thanks.
I think that a lot of the tips were useful but when I first learned to play chess at 6 years I didn't win a single game rotates but still liked the game
I'm a bit young to have a son, but can you believe that my little cousin is 8 and his dad hasn't taught him chess yet? What an amateur. I will teach him, thanks for the video
One of my kids has a chess app on his tablet now and it's a great way for him to grow and to get lots of games in. He is really close to beating me consistently. 6 is such a great age to get started on chess.
Much appreciated. Thanks for watching. My next challenge is that one of my sons is winning every game against the other son. Not sure how to help rebalance that so they continue to want to play each other.
With the kids I teach, I often give the stronger one a handicap. It creates a fresh game for the stronger one and of course give the weaker one a better chance to win. Maybe allow the stronger player to play down a piece
They don't mind the imbalance from the outset? I picture my kids thinking "that's not fair", or feeling bad that they aren't good enough without an advantage.
Well done that is an absolutely brilliant easy enjoyable video to teach someone how to teach Chess. Thanks you
Glad you enjoyed it. It helps that I have two eager young players at home.

It'll take a lifetime to master, so good to get the little one started now.
What a amazing parent I’m sure your kids are gonna be awesome in the real world
It's very kind of you to say so. In doing the best I can!
Great video. I am really encouraged to keep playing with my son who’s just picking it up
Awesome. I've been back into chess with my kids lately too. It really does work to leave a chess board set up in the living room.
Wait a second…I am 6 years old
Im 33 years old and knights still move in an L shape... 3:00
Haha, us too! No shame in that whatsoever!
“Have a chess set that will stand up to the abuse that it’s likely to take”.........proceeds to show cardboard chess set. :)
Dollar store purchase. Somehow it has survived. Not sure how that works.
My kid got interested in chess on his own. He’s basically teaching me how to play it
So many kids are getting into chess at an early age. Nice work fostering that
I LOVE THAT!
This was one of the best videos I've ever seen on this subject, can't thank you enough for the help!

Agree it’s healthy not to let your kids win all the time. They need to experience losing. It was a good point to offer your queen early
My 6 year old nephew asked me about playing and I just found this video. Thank you.
Really great tips. I was looking for how to teach the strategy. Learning moves is "easy", but teaching them to the why is hard!

That sounds awesome. So great to start early.

Kids aren't made from the same material these days.... wimps..... all of them!
Chess is fun
Can someone tell me what the chessboard at 4:26 is? It looks amazing
I'm not sure. That was from stock footage. Hopefully someone else out there knows.

Unbelievable! Thank goodness for cousins.
I’m starting a chess club at my school so these tips are appreciated.
Brilliant. I'm so glad you're bringing chess back to life with young players. If you find any other techniques that work, please let us know.
Hi, thanks for the tips. I was hired to teach kids chess and you helped me.
Awesome. Glad it was helpful. That's a dream job. Congrats.
My first kid just turned 6 so here I am. Great tips Ty. What do you think of apps and games?

I’m 11 and is tutoring a six year old to play chess. It’s gonna be really hard for me but wish me luck! (Thanks for the advice btw)
That's awesome. It's kind of you to take the time to teach a younger player. Best of luck.
@@LegendaryTactics Thanks!
What is the software you're using? At 3:27 especially
That's tabletop simulator. Here's how you access the mods: ruclips.net/video/C2X6vhmHwq8/видео.html&ab_channel=LegendaryTactics
I did it at 4
Too Good ! Very impressive & informative !
Thank you for saying so, and for watching!!
Thanks! Definitely picked up a couple new ideas here.
That's great to hear! Thanks for watching!
How do we children teach chess to adults?
I love this question so much. Do you have any answers to it? It sounds like you might have some experience.
Yes, I loved the delivery and pacing of this video. I was captivated to learn throughout the entire session.

@@LegendaryTactics it depends on the strength discrepancy between them. It's definitely worth a try!
@@jayvondavis1558 Thanks. I'll just have to brave it and see how it goes.
You are so underrated
Merry Christmas!
Same to you. Have a great holiday.
