      dreaminqclown I know but the only thing that really pissed me off is that the Spotify storage. And when you ran out of storage u can’t even download to your account or to your playlist, but in Apple Music, u can put more music to your playlist without being to your library unless you add them to your library/playlist that’s what most people never realize

    A big advantage with Apple Music is that if you have iTunes with music coming from your local iTunes library - Apple will automatically upload all your track onto the Cloud and synchronize amongst all your devices. It’s really a huge plus for music lovers who have built their own music libraries on their local hard drives. Those songs / playlists can be interchanged with new music from Apple Music and it’s all pretty flawless once synced onto the Cloud.

    • @CharlesCleyn
      @CharlesCleyn  5 лет назад +4

      This is definitely a huge plus especially since I had a ton of music on CD which is why I loved AM but then I stopped buying CDs and started streaming music which made that service irrelevant for me so I switched to Spotify and I'm happier.

  • @london20102011

    Currently using Apple Music. I like the UI and the feel of the music. I would argue that Apple Music does recommend lots of music you've never heard before, from artists that aren't that big yet.
    Apple Music recommended me some of Billie Eilish's music before she became as famous as she is today. Beats 1 radio is also a nice place to hear somewhat unheard songs.
    It works fluently together with my AirPods, Apple Watch, and my iPhone. I love it, although the one thing that has me stuck is Siri integration. I can just say "Play some celebration music" and she'll play that music. It sucks that voice integration isn't available on Spotify on iDevices.
    Apple is really passionate about music. They've been in the music industry forever. The iPod jump-started music on the go, in my opinion, iTunes let people burn music on discs and create their own mixtapes easily, they made their own speaker at one point, etc.
    I do miss a lot of Spotify features that I would wish would be on Apple Music, such as crossfade.

You have varies ways to filter your playlist, you could search a song within a playlist. They have a crossfade option which I didn’t think I needed till I started using Spotify. The parts where it falls is in its quality Apple Music has superior sound quality.

    Pros/Cons:
    Apple Music:
    -More “human” approach to the playlists;
    -More reliable on Apple Devices;
    -Cleaner look;
    -Lyrics on the songs.
    Spotify
    -More “automated” approach to playlists;
    -Outside the Apple Ecosystem, is available on almost every smart speaker, TV, videogame, rock and the list goes on lol;
    -Dark Mode;
    -The unites Music and Podcasts.

      -and Spotify has great promos all the time that offer Premium at highly discounted prices..
      -Spotify is a cross-platform service so it supports more devices (Apple Music locks you into the Apple ecosystem)
      -the little difference in Apple Music's library (number of songs) vs Spotify's is negligible so it is very likely that your favorite songs are in both services...
      Spotify is the clear winner here (at least in the consumer side of things) and it's obvious..there is little need to raise "but"s because it's a better service overall..

    • @ouinon4394
      @ouinon4394 5 лет назад

      Mediocrity Central little difference in the number of titles? 10 million is little? And Apple Music is literally a cross-platform service too. Nice try. Other thing, Apple Music also has discount prices depending on your age

    • @mediocritycentral
      @mediocritycentral 5 лет назад +1

      @@ouinon4394 nah.. the 10M difference is mainly because Apple allows ghetto music made through GarageBand to be uploaded to Apple Music..so if ur more into established artists anyway, this isn't a concern...
      also.. are u kidding? Spotify is king when it comes to giving discounts.. it's just that Apple restricts Spotify offering sales to its consumers in the iOS version of the app.. that's one of the reasons Spotify started its all-out war with Apple Music a few months ago...ask ur friends with Androids and they'll tell you Spotify bombards them with discounts constantly..
      Also Apple Music works better in Apple devices and Apple wants to keep it that way... Spotify's fluidity is consistent throughout all the platforms it supports

    Spotify is better by far for me, making my playlist and categorizing em perfectly triggers my OCD. Plus It has really accurate recommendations that feel personal and updates daily. the end of the year reports on your listening habits, fave songs, and genres is pretty cool also if you’re a music nerd.
    I usually listen to more avant-garde/obscure stuff so I’m always surprised when It finds weird songs or groups I haven’t already heard of. Algorithms from other apps have a hard time categorizing my taste and the suggestions seem lazy.

    This is quite a thorough evaluation so thank you for taking time to make this.
    For now I'm still with Apple Music. The biggest selling point to me has to be the artists' playlists. Most of the time , they would offer different playlists such as Essential Albums/ Essentials/ Next Steps/ Deep Cuts, etc (depends on the artists). The clear division proves that the editors over AM surely do their homework. The personalised playlists are also outstanding (Favourite Mix/ Chill Mix/ New Music).
    However at times, I would find some problem with the iCloud Music Library. Just the other day, I was switching region/ store and all the previous music on my library was gone. That was frustrating.
    On the other hand, Spotify attracts me with the dark theme and how easy it is to use. Nonetheless, in this moment in particular, I'm still not feeling their playlists yet. It still feels like a hot pot with everything being thrown in one pot. That's just me and who knows I might have a change of heart later on.

So far, Spotify is still king to me. The features, performance, and 3rd Party integration is unmatched. Metal, power metal, heavy metal, black metal, death metal, deathcore and indie rock.
    A list of some bands I listen to:
    KISS
    Led Zeppelin
    Def leppard
    AC/DC
    Metallica
    Green day
    The white stripes

    Scorpions
    And more...
    The trooper
    Run to the hills
    American idiot
    Immigrant song
    I was made for lovin' you
    Hammer to fall
    Bohemian rhapsody
    Another one bites the dust
    Cum on feel the noize

    I too have been using BOTH Apple Music AND Spotify for the last 6 months. Even with using Spotify on Android. And Apple Music on an iPhone. SUPER accurate.
    I ABSOLUTELY agree. I noticed this too that Spotify was DRASTICALLY Superior in regards to recommending new music that matches your tastes more accurately. THIS is an EXTREMELY important feature.
    I have noticed though that Spotify can be occasionally glitchy or crash but its fairly rare. However Apple Music NEVER malfunctions on iOS BUT Apple Music is NOT as stable on Android. At least not Android 9.0.
    Although, on the flip side, Apple Music is MUCH more refined and organized. For example, i really do like how Apple Musics UI and features such as it listings of Songs and Albums, most importantly, Apple organizes all those albums from a particular artist, and actually lists their respective top songs that correlate to either the album or artist depending on your search.
    Im surprised you didn't go that deep into feature comparison for each platform.
    Overall good review and i overall agree. I was really going into Apple Music expecting to be blown away but was more disappointed and determined Spotify was my first initial and ultimately better option.

But that isn't to say Apple Music recommends me bad music, they recommended Billie Eilish to me before she became famous. I miss some of Spotify's features like crossfade. It's the small things that make a big difference and I would love to have those features on Spotify. The one thing that is holding me from switching is Siri integration, it just works so fluently. You just say what you feel like listening to, or what playlist you want to be played and it'll just work. It's like magic.

    Total noob to music service here. Do any of the music services allow you to create your own playlist but pick only a certain segment of that song? As in the first 45 seconds of a song and then it stops and goes to your second song on the playlist or music starting at the 20 second mark on a song playing through the 1:30 second mark on a song then stopping and rolling to your next song or segment of a song on a playlist? In essence creating a truly personalized playlist of what you might call an old school mix tape

    One key difference that was not mentioned ‘hear’ (haha) is overall performance of Spotify vs Applemusic while on the cell network. I used Spotify for the $.99 3 month period, then switched to Applemusic as it’s included for free with my Verizon premium data plan. Simply put, Spotify makes use of an adequately sized buffer to download lots of music ahead of your next skip, and music usually never stops. Applemusic does not have any read-ahead buffer whatsoever. When you hit a deadish zone with poor cell phone reception, and you either skip or the next song is supposed to start, Applemusic essentially stops playing and never attempts to resume. Ironically, Verizon’s ‘premium’ data plan doesn’t really give you priority over everyone else and isn’t much help.
    Sound quality wise, Apple Music is very high quality and sounds fuller than Spotify. Spotify still sounds pretty good, but not all the music is ripped or mastered correctly...at least with Applemusic, you identify exactly which version or master of a song your listening to. Both blow away Pandora in terms of features, music variety and sound quality.

    The only reason I switched from spotify to Apple Music is because I didn’t like that huge update they did changing the layout. How you had to follow every artist you have music by for it to show up on your artist. It made it harder to make playlists in my opinion. Does apple products allow spotify on their devices? Sorry samsung user here.

      Yes, Spotify is allows on all apple devices but its' a good question because Spotify is directly in competition with Apple Music.

    In addition to all the points raised:
    -Spotify has an EQ buried in its settings
    -Spotify has great promos all the time that offer Premium at highly discounted prices..
    -Spotify is a cross-platform service so it supports more devices (Apple Music locks you into the Apple ecosystem.. yeah it's supported on other platforms like Android but the experience is subpar and inconsistent)
    -the little difference in Apple Music's library (number of songs) vs Spotify's is negligible so it is very likely that your favorite songs are in both services...
    ***Spotify is the clear winner here (at least in the consumer side of things) and it's obvious..there is little need to raise "but"s because it's a better service overall..

    If you're using Apple Music you can songshift to transfer your Apple Music over to Spotify and use their discovery playlists for people who use Apple Music.

    • @CharlesCleyn
      @CharlesCleyn  4 года назад

      What is song shift?

    • @michaelnguyen9221
      @michaelnguyen9221 4 года назад

      Charles Cleyn It's an app on IOS and Android that allows you to transfer your songs from one music platform to another. So you could be paying for Apple music but using song shift transfer them over to Spotify and take advantage of the Spotify discovery playlists. Songshift also works on other platforms than just Spotify and Apple Music so you could use it on things like Tidal and such. It's also free.

    This was a great video, Charles. I love the features and design of Spotify, but I have a fairly substantial portion of my music library uploaded via the music locker feature (currently using Google Play Music, but it's getting sunset soon). Most of it is music from either my band or my friend's bands, or small local acts. I really can't do without those! Is there any news about whether Spotify will implement this feature? Because they sound like the service I want to switch to.

    • @CharlesCleyn
      @CharlesCleyn  5 лет назад

      That's a really good question, I don't think I've heard of them talking about this feature but they do regular update this page and you can do a search here to find out if they do release it: support.spotify.com/us/using_spotify/features/

    I am unfamiliar with both platforms and looking for the the one that is easiest to use since my computer skills are sorely lacking. I have found some great music on Spotify from some great but relatively unheard of musicians. Spotify has surprised me on many occasions. I guess the most important thing for me is the library, and how easy is it to organize the music that I like. Great review...

    I was an Rdio user (best streaming service ever) and had to switch after they closed. Used both Apple Music and Spotify services for 3 Months but finally chose Apple Music, for 2 reasons : 1- Spotify has a songs in library limit (10 000), which was reached for me at the letter "M" (when migrating Rdio into Spotify). So any artist after "M" couldn't add unless I remove another one... 2- Apple Music has a list view of artists and list view of album. I was wasting quite some time going through fat squared album covers instead of simply going down an alphabetical list. So yeah, in terms of user interface and operability, Apple Music is much more convenient if you listen to music everyday. But lacks social features, so get ready to say good bye to your friends.
