    Yeah Tawas is my favorite and in my opinion the best Lake Huron beach town. The place is just crazy busy on the summer weekends. But I can't believe how close the water has come up to the pavilion. The beach was 50 or so yards out and some small sand dunes inbetween before the water levels come up, that's just crazy. I haven't been out to the park in a couple years. Fun fact according to interpretive signs at Bay City State park. The Tobico marsh was created by a sand spit like Tawas point, and eventually Tawas bay will become a lake or marsh. Same thing is happening down the coast at Pinnconing point and Nayanquing point also.

      I could have sworn I replied to this comment, but now I don't see anything. Thanks for sharing the information here. Very interesting to hear about what it used to be like at Tawas. That is definitely some crazy shifting landscape up there. -Ari

    Scotty used to live in Oscoda. He worked at the Wurtsmith AF Base. And now that we are married. he loves sharing the area with me. It is a beautiful lighthouse :)

      This was our first trip to that area and we quickly found out why it appeals to so many people. Thanks for watching and sharing your comment!

      It really was a nice stop. Definitely going to be a lot busier in the summer than when we were there in October though!

    The good news for you both is that if you camp there you get both the sunrise and the sunset. One point of clarification if I may. It should be noted that Tawas Bay is also part of Lake Huron. Tawas Bay is also part of Saginaw Bay which is also part of Lake Huron. The water you see on the "Lake Huron" side is actually Saginaw Bay. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saginaw_Bay

    It should be noted that Tawas Point State Park is one of our favorites. It breaks my heart to see what the devastating floods have done this year. If this keeps up the Light House will soon be at the point again.

      The impact seems to be much greater at Tawas than in other areas. But as you note, that lighthouse and point have quite a history of the land moving around as the water does its dance. Hopefully, the cycle reverses again soon. Neither Jessi or had been to that park before but both had heard people sing its praises and we understand why now. -Ari

      It's either near Tawas City or East Tawas. No such thing as just Tawas.

    How is the stargazing there?

      If we remember correctly, we missed out due to cloud cover. You should have some good open sky out near the lighthouse area. What we can't remember is what kind of light pollution you might have to deal with, but the town of East Tawas isn't very large so that should help.

    UM. Have you BEEN to Cape Cod!? I'm guessing as Midwesterners, No. Tawas Point State Park, is NOT EVEN CLOSE TO CAPE COD! This claim is laughable.

    • @Trekers
      @Trekers  Год назад

      No, we haven't been, although we're sure Tawas probably doesn't stack up against Cape Cod. But that's what the locals pitch it as, which is why we used that reference. Having said that, it's still a nice park and a place to hang out that people can enjoy in Michigan. Thanks for watching!

      @@frankalokrot9751 I have, every Summer growing up. And, aside from its cute little town it's STILL not as good as Cape Cod. 🤣
