I ordered 10 comfrey roots from you a couple of months ago, I received 13 and they all are doing well. They will be transplanted all along my chicken/rabbit run to feed the protein producers. This year I hung all my spent pea plants, corn stalks, etc to dry for winter "hay," the rabbits love it.
Confession: I had never heard of comfrey before I stared watching your videos a few weeks ago. Now I plan on planting a whole bunch of it on our property.
I wanted to add that it’s best to keep any plant you are drying out of sun light. As you have with it being in a covered porch. The sun is great for living plants but once you are drying them it breaks down all the nutrients you are trying to preserve. Comfrey is also good to use not only in salves but just as a poultice for healing on animals and people. It helps with wounds bruises and even broken bones. Great for so many things.

Rabbits FARKING LOVE Comfrey. Acquire you a dozen or so roots, in a year you can turn that into 100 ... and then its as close to infinite as you want. Our Rabbits get 1/4th of their feed calories from Comfrey. Free meat protein FTW!!!
Next spring: comfrey will be all over my new garden area. I love what you have done. I was raised in east Asheville -- oh, those mountains in the fall! Love the view @ 4:55.
I'm going to use my comfrey for a wound lotion that I've been making. Got the recipe and instructions on how to make it from the Grow Network. Comfrey is great for helping to heal wounds!

Thank you for telling us how to dry it. I love my comfrey. I am going to put it in with my container blue berries/blackberries/raspberries to help them get through the winter. The comfrey I got from you is top notch. It has grown so well.

That is one big puppy! So adorable. Wish I had that comfy. I will be planting some in April or May. I planted 6 fruit trees in April 2022. 1 died so I'll need to replace it. I was just gonna ask how it doesn't blow away after cut and tgere y'all are telling me it stays but. Great! Although, I'm in high desert Idaho and our wind is crazy almost ever stinking day. I thank yall so much for all y'all teach me. Blessings, julie
Thanks. I love the video. I’m going to make more concrete hay this year. Hey, I once saw a video a guy saying his chickens had tumors and he thought it was maybe from too much comfrey feed. What is the limit on how much you can feed animals?
Billy, two questions, can you chop and drop comfrey if winter is approaching? I’ve been told not to fertilize your trees and bushes when they are going dormant. Also, have you used comfrey to winterize raised beds for the season by throwing the cuttings on top?
Billy, it’s been a very long time since my family farmed tobacco-but as you were gathering the comfrey to bundle it, I had a flashback of my family’s tobacco harvest days. 😊 I don’t have an awful lot of comfry, but I’m thinking I’ll cut those leaves and give them to my fig tree. I actually didn’t know to cut them for winter-thanks! I hope Michelle is feeling better! Take care-God bless!
I watched 1 of your earlier Videos about Comfrey n I bought some Root Clippings. Put them in a pot w/ some soil n watered em w/ some "Swamp Water" I put them under a Clear tote to simulate a Small Greenhouse n now I have plants popping up. I plan on using mine in "Swamp Water" n as Mulch... Lots of good stuff here on the RUclips...
Milkbua(?) likes to photo bomb. Maybe you should give him a big hug and rub/scratch. LOL Or you could say "squirrel" LOL. I'll be harvesting my comfrey soon. I dehydrate and make a powder which I will use for a compost tea type nutrient.
"He was minding his own business until the camera came on." 🤣😂 My Pyrenees NEVER mind their own business when we are outside. They have just got to be all up in our business with their "Pet me Daddy".. "Pet me Mommy." and push you over if you ignore them!!
So I just received some comfrey from you today. So its pretty late in the season, can I just plant it now and any ideas as to what will give me the best chance of success heading into the winter????
Thanks so much for this! Question for you. Can I plant cuttings this time of year? I live in the upper Midwest so it's getting colder now. Would the root make it through the winter?
@@jasonschannel9017 you could plant them in the ground and use a clear tote as a mini greenhouse for the colder days. That would probably give you enough time to get established before the real cold hits.
You shouldn't need to do a thing. I have several comfrey plants that live on the north side of a 6-foot solid fence at 5500 ft in zone 5, so once the ground there freezes it tends to stay frozen solid till April. I don't do anything at all to protect them, but they come back bigger and badder every year. :)
i bought 3 comfrey plants last year. looking to greatly expand that this year once they get re-established. how many times can you cut them up in a season?
Is this the type of Comfrey that is invasive an spreads by seed? Now that winter is coming is there time to plant it in the ground or what is the process for zone 6?
So I just ordered some comfrey and I'm in N.G 6b. When it comes can I leave it till spring or do I plant in planters till I can get it in the spring or what is best way. And is this the kind that spreads?
None of my comfrey (true from seed OR cuttings and two year crowns I bought) survived the Kansas summer. Nothing got bigger than a few leaves and never got any bigger. Can I dig them up and save them for next year and try to revive them next spring? or should I leave them in the ground and hope they come back. My nettle is doing great, but the comfrey did not. This is why I left 47 years ago years ago - the horrible summers. But I came back to care for my wonderful dad before he died. But I would like a good comfrey patch here.

I got comfrey from you guys last year and it didn't disappoint. It does great here in Wisconsin.
When we had tobacco we would take leaves left in field
after harvest and run them through wire and let them dry in barn
Great idea! That would work too!

When is the best time to plant the comfrey root? Spring or fall?
And, can animals lightly graze this during the growing season?

Can you use the first cutting for medical or the second cutting
Hi Billy, how long after you plant comfrey roots can you begin to harvest the leaves?
I just depends on the size.
Ok, the ones I planted were from small to medium sized.... typically how long?

This is not the invasive type. It is a Bocking variety.
If you’re planting root cuttings, they should be fine and come up in spring.
Actually its puff, puff, pass...don't bogart that j my friend, pass it over to me...🤣
Is it ok to place the comfrey hay across gardens beds for the winter? How about for compost pile?
Comfrey makes excellent compost! Treat it as a green. Left on top of the garden bed, it feeds the worms and enriches the soil.
