      Not quite there yet.
      Genesis still doesn’t know how to build suspensions like the Germans.
      At lower speeds like at 45mph or 65mph it’s comparable to a German. You only start to notice how unpolished it is when you start hitting 90, 100, 120mph.
      Of course Genesis’s home country and American market don’t have an autobahn so they may just not care.
      But even a VW remains more consistent(not that the VW rides better, but it’s more consistent at various speeds) than Genesis.

    • @etaesu83
      @etaesu83 3 месяца назад

      @@Toritori-ke9sf have you driven multiple models? I would agree with you. Just wanted to know your experience. I was shocked to see how planted in felt in a 5 series at 135mph. G90 feels stable but wallows a bit above 100mph. 7 series I was neutral on which is surprising cause the longer wheelbase. I like the suspension on the GV70 more than the GV80. Hate the suspensions on 2 series and 1 series but probably harsh from their handling focus. Golf R/GTI are great but the rest of the VWs are all very mediocre. Audi and Porsche, chefs kiss.

    The X5's 2nd row is tight and it's almost impossible finding a 3rd row variant on the lot. They typically direct you to the X7 for obvious pocket robbing reasons. The GLE is about as reliable as a deadbeat dad on Christmas. I'd marry a pornstar before I opted for a Mercedes.
    If comparing luxury 2 rows with a budget of $82K it's between the GV80 and X5. For me, the GV80 wins based on the infotainment, reliability, and the noise level of the A/C unit being significantly lower. The X5 is more fun to drive, better fuel economy and voice commands are better, but it'll come up short in every other comfort metric at $82K.

    • @Swiggityswagger
      @Swiggityswagger 4 месяца назад +5

      If you get the I6 version of the X5 it will be more reliable than the Genesis. And when you do need service you'll be glad you bought the BMW so you don't have to deal with the Hyundai/Genesis dealer networks. Personally, I'd save 10 grand and get an MDX Type S.

    • @221ddj
      @221ddj 4 месяца назад +7

      @@Swiggityswagger I traded my 2020 X5 for a 2021 GV80 when it first came out...the Genesis was better in every way except for the voice commands, gas mileage, and inline acceleration. No maintenance issues at all. I considered the MDX, but it's front wheel drive based, slow as hell and it looks cheap on the inside. To be fair, I didn't drive the Type S, but even so that only solves the speed. I recently added a G90 to my garage from a new dedicated Genesis dealer...BMW needs to take notes. The only place that I've had a better dealership experience than Genesis was at Lexus, and that's only because they gave me ice cream.
      You are very biased, like most people, and speaking from a place of ignorance...like most people when it comes to Genesis. I love cars, and I'm not a brand snob. At the fully loaded Genesis price points, Genesis is significantly better equipped than its European competitors and there is no direct competition from the Acura, Lexus, Infiniti trio. I've owned Lexus, Acura, Infiniti, BMW, Audi, Volvo, and Genesis...plus a Ford, Honda and a Jeep when I was relatively poor. The only repeat brands were BMW and Genesis.

      I think the X5 is the better vehicle. The B58 engine in the base 40i model is insanely good in power delivery, fuel economy, and reliability compared to the Genesis.
      I find the GV80 too expensive for what it is. I would go a few years back and get an X5 for less than a new GV80, not saying the Genesis is a bad vehicle it's just I don't see the appeal for a newer brand costing that much with little heritage.

    • @221ddj
      @221ddj Месяц назад +1

      @@dan0069-t6n I can definitely understand that take. I've owned both and I can say for me the BMW won in powertrain, fuel economy, voice command and cruise control functions. Outside of those areas, the GV80 is head and shoulders above the X5 in what I use daily such as noise levels both road and A/C unit, heated and ventilated seating, sound system and I find the overall package more visually appealing. Equally priced of course. All of the areas I mentioned are available as packages on the X5, but equally equipped the straight 6 X5 still costs more fully loaded than the GV80 Prestige Trim.
      I disagree with the brand heritage take though. In this regard it has 0 merit. Chrysler has been making trash under different names for decades. Mercedes makes shitty cars that look good and have brand recognition. At the end of the day, the quality of the car should matter more than the perception of the brand. At least for people that want a good vehicle.

    Great review as always, Alex. I’ve always loved the GV80. It would be a difficult choice for me between the X5. The interior is beautiful here, but even the base B-52 engine in the X5 is fantastic, fuel, efficient, and much quicker than this. I prefer the interior and exterior of the GV80 to the German competition. My only worry/ complaint about the GV80 is the lack of a turbo V8 in upper trims to truly compete with the Germans. It seems Genesis figured it would go all in on EV instead of developing a new ICE powertrain and I think that is going to bite them. Otherwise stunning car inside and out. Love the materials used inside and that there are still physical controls unlike the Germans. As far as the Japanese “competition” those are just lazy rebadge job of mainstream products and do not even compete against true luxury offerings like the Germans and Genesis.

    The dash screen is the worst part of the GV80, right next to the twist dial for a gear selector. I see Hyundai still likes putting the navigation control next to the gear selector. Oh look, it's a dial as well!
    Literally everything else about the Genesis GV80 is great. It's the fact that the dash screen and gear selector are the way they are, that is the biggest detractor for me. While some argue that it provides cleaner lines and appearance, all I see is a fingerprint nightmare mixed with glare and a PitA to deal with at night and tired eyes.

    My *almost* fully loaded 2024 X5 was the same price as this. This Genesis is a hard pass for me. I also can’t help but feel it needs a Sport Prestige trim like that GV70, because the only spec being a grandpa one turns away a lot of potential buys. That and these sitting on Hyundai lots. Much rather go to a BMW showroom.

    I had a 2023 GV80 Prestige, which I traded in for an electric GV70 Prestige. I do miss the roomier interior sometimes, and would seriously consider getting a 2025 GV80 again. I've owned countless German and other European cars as well, but the Genesis brand continues to intrigue me the most.

Just sit it on the dash while filming so we can get an idea of the color shift when it comes to what things really look like. For example, the interior grey of this vehicle looks nearly military camo green on my screen.

    Alex, you and your folks all complain about the lack of side headroom, yet you swoon over the very feature that causes the problem - big "shoulders". That can also be called tiny tops but under either name the feature is stupidly impractical. Slab sides are not a sign of weakness nor are they costing extra drag.

    FYI the Lexus RX is 1000% a GV70 competitor. NOT a GV80 competitor. RX and GV70 have identical combined legroom according to Edmunds specs. Furthermore the GV70 has 10 more cubic feet of space than a RX. Lastly both vehicles have VERY similar luxury/tech/etc. RX offers ventilated rear seats but the GV70 offers the ergo motion massage seats.
    Either way it's insane a base engine RX with all the options is over 65K!!! Its slower, smaller, and maybe even less luxurious than a GV70, let alone a GV80. RX offers a smoother ride but it handles extremely poorly for the fsport and 500h variants.
