I thoroughly enjoyed my recent trip BHD-SOU-BHD. It was strange to be on a flight that didn't involve any of the London airports, not to mention quite a relief.

Yeah, quite nice and relaxed isn’t it?

@@BestOfAviation yes it is. My only slight criticism is Southampton Airport could do with some refurbishment.

@@tariqkhader6196 It had struggled a lot recently with Flybe’s earlier collapse and is in not great financial circumstances. It’s a shame about it but nothing can be done. Luckily, the runway is supposed to be extended next year and more stands added for larger aircraft!

no inflight catering? Air NZ ATR flights have hot and cold beverages and snacks complimentary.

Just a small glass of water for everyone. They did apologise for no hot beverages available on this specific flight

For short to medium travel these planes are ideal and the slightly larger 700 has that same sound, more like a gentle electric motor than the big jets whose noise spectrum is massive.
The ATRs and equivalent turbo-props can use green fuel or a mix and will gradually embrace the fully green fuel developments of Embraer, Brazil.
The Pratt & Whitney Canada engines are capable of many tweaks and are quickly removable for maintenance or experimental hybrid electric engines made in Canada and the UK by Rolls Royce/PWC.
The 16,000 ft altitude is especially suitable for passengers with various medical conditions which can be affected by the cabin pressurization required for the 40,000 ft altitude of big jets (often used for short/medium haul wastefully because they emit tonnes of CO2 reaching high altitudes then burning more on landing with reverse thrust and enormous noise) and some countries are now obliging companies to use turbo-prop for small journeys, notably Japan and the USA.
Some rival manufacturers favour a single large rear door for entry and egress and have moving belts which are efficient and a boon to wheelchair users.
This whole sector of aviation is innovating more quickly and radically than any other.
