The Vario was the first thing I noticed - well done. You and Mie are just about the only people whose videos I will watch as soon as I get the notification. Two wonderful people. The way the air is alive towards the end of the flight was cool to see. Thank-you for sharing.
I love that you are following Mie too. She is like my big sister in hang gliding. People like her make my journey twice more special. I’m so grateful to have her friendship.
I hope you can find a way, an instructor/school that you can go to… even if it’s far away, at least experience the training session a couple times. You’ll know if you really want this or not pretty much off the bat.
Hey Nano, if I'm allowed to give some advise, this is what I would do to get a more secure & comfortable feeling : 1. getting a longer hangstrip will give you better control (you are fixed quite high above your base bar, I think you commented that yourself somewhere) 2. taking over from uprights to base bar should happen in the first 2 seconds after take-off. Then you are much better in control of the glider. Then you fly the hang glider. I got the the idea that up to a certain point the hang glider was flying with you (see this as positive feedback ☀☀) . Flying in upwards position doesn't allow accurate steering and feedback from you glider. Keep that position as short as possible. Keep ongoing, you are doing marvelously well 👍👍
Thank you sir! Yes both points have been given to me as feedback from handful pilots and especially the first one, my hang point, upper body being high up, I’ve been feeling that I want to adjust. the cleat on the harness is adjusted pretty high so I’ll bring that down a little and see how much improvement I get from that. Only want to change very small things at a time. If I feel the need to, I’ll make my hang strap a little longer. Your point 2, there has been a pretty big discussion about this… if you’d like please check the comment section of the reel: facebook.com/share/r/19Z224nEni/?mibextid=UalRPS I want to make sure i get away from the mountain first and get in my harness when I feel comfortable to do so. I’ve had two more flights after this one, vlogs coming, I’m getting better at it little by little at transitioning from the upright to prone going in my harness after my takeoff. I don’t want to just go in my harness and to basetube quickly just because I was told to do so..I want to do so as I feel comfortable and confident with my own timing. Especially I learned flying in upright position for a long time with Steve, I’m very comfortable flying in that position. As I get used to flying mountain, I’ll be better at transitioning more swiftly.
@ You’re absolutely right to do it on your own pace, feeling comfortable Nano. Very very very good feeling to follow. Just some additional tips : If you get to hang closer to the base bar, you can transition easier to upright position by just pushing yourself upwards from the base bar only. Holding on to the base bar in upwards position is than simply possible while keeping good control and moving your hands the uprights is getting more simple too. Small thing to consider, by hanging lower and in upright position, your hands will be lower on the uprights. Flaring your glider then demands a longer push out range. (Not such a big difference, but it can feel as some bigger effort). Thanks for sharing your videos, they are so enjoyable. Keep having fun, you are doing soooo well.
Great flight Nano. Great video as well to document it. I still cross control when prone, too, I think it’s something we have to boil out of our brains lol. I do find it easier not to cross control after I’ve zipped up though, not sure if that’s because of the way the harness holds my weight or because by that point launch is well over, I’m away and safe from terrain, and my mind can focus more on proper technique though. Thanks for posting!
May have been a bit past your comfort, but WELL within your ability! :D You made it look easy. And yes! Those bumps were definitely thermals! I didn't notice until watching the video of my launch I was going up!
Great video, thanks for sharing. We surely had a good day at Eagle Rock! I was one of the paragliding pilots watching you from above. There are pros and cons for both HGs and PGs for sure. On that day the thermals were few and narrow, so I got up with very tight turns maxing out at 2300' above launch.
Amazing how the take off looked much smoother on the in flight video than the one from take off, great video, really enjoying seeing your progression and super jealous that you're so far ahead of me❤
I know what you mean! Recording from a close distance vs away, what you observe is different. With away look, you can detect what the wind/I might be doing because you can see the entire glider’s movement. This is what I find recording such an important part of my learning😊
"Mushi mushi" Thanks as ever for taking me out of my comfort zone too will not be waiting for those thermals in your journey. Is it not better to have the altitude to loose then have none at all?. your doing great Nano 😊
Nah, paragliding doesn’t spark my interest at all… I think it’s because ive had a tandem flight when I was 8 and got really bad motion sickness from it😅. Childhood memories are powerful things.
You did great Nano! You even felt some thermals! You go girl!
Yay yay thank you!

Aww I love that you guys got to play!! Awesome flight! Good landing in those conditions. Looks like you are managing that glider well.
Aw thank you☺️
Thanks for keeping my dream of flying alive while I figure how to do it myself ❤

Watching from Colorado.. That was terrific. Yes the launch was a bit bumpy but you did great.
Thank you so much😆

Looked great to me.!

Did you ever consider paragliding or paramotoring before you decided to learn hang gliding? A bunch of us fly paramotors all around the Richmond area.
Ooh! Really?! I've wanted to learn. Where did you take lessons? Is there anyone local that teaches?
