  • 'Phalasarna 1941' is an AR application, which we plan to publish in the near future. It was developed as part of the EU Marebox-project, using the Sitsim AR-platform (www.sitsim.no).
The ‘Phalasarna 1941’ AR situated simulation is based on Dr. Michael Bendon’s book ‘The Forgotten Flotilla’ (www.forgottenfl...) and includes a ‘dry dive’ to the World War II TLC wreck and a reconstruction of how it was attacked by German bombers during the Battle of Crete in May 1941. The wreck is located at the archaeological site of ancient Phalasarna (phalasarna.wee...) in Western Crete, which is under the protection of the Greek Ministry of Culture.
A paper about the project: ‘Augmented Reality Storytelling Submerged. Dry Diving to a World War II Wreck at Ancient Phalasarna, Crete’ by G. Liestøl, M. Bendon and E. Hadjidaki-Marder is available online (www.mdpi.com/2....
We want to thank Šarūnas Ledas and his crew at Tag of Joy (www.tagofjoy.lt) for skillfull handling of 3D-modelling, -animation and implementation, as well as the continued development of the Sitsim AR platform. Thanks to the students at the course MEVIT3810 at the University of Oslo for their important contributions. Thanks also to Nike Marder for invaluable photos of the wreck.
Efforts were undertaken to obtain permission to use possibly copyrighted historical material in this video. Any further information regarding this is welcomed.

      Hi Manish Gupta,
thanks for your interest in our Sitsim AR work. This version was developed as a testapplication for research and student purposes. However, in 2023 we plan to include it in a new updated version of the Ancient Phalasaran app.
      Best regards,
      Gunnar
