5:02 It's great how this scene encapsulates these three characters. Jim is smiling and happy even though he's in third place because he had a good time. Dwight (eternally in second place), rather than placing his hand on his heart, is securing and hiding his silver medal. And Michael is displaying his undeserved first place medal since he always places so much value in appearances, but in the process is just making himself look more awkward.

on the DVD they talked about some scenes where the reaction shots were genuine, this shot with stanley and the shot of Angela when Michael kisses Oscar were both examples, the shot with the kissing was totally off-script, so it surprised everyone, and this shot with stanley was also genuine since Stanley was not supposed to be going along with the office olympics, but they decided to include him last minute, so he was the only one who hadnt seen kevin practice this shot before xD

Sigh... some people... you can see the camera crew and stuff in almost every episode! this show is about them being filmed by a film crew and in the last season all the office guys are watching their footage for the "documentary" but are shocked to find out that it contains so much personal stuff.... sometimes the office guys are even talking to the film crew, and literally in every episode they do little interviews where the camera person asks them stuff
raafmaat wow..no shit. I'm not pointing out any mistakes or anything. It's just in some of the shots, showing cameraman & mic were intentional & part of the script. In this shot, it was not.

The Office Olympics is one of my favorite episodes. I feel like it was the series' first really good episode and it really humanized Michael. He became a lot more likable and sympathetic after that

No, no, no. Stanley has worked at Dunder Mifflin for years with everyone. My theory is that every day the BS he has to deal with in that office increases, until one day he just gave up, and he doesn’t care enough to deal with the stupid crap that goes on each day.
I love how without Michael, Stanley got stopped working to play, and for once in his life tobi wasnt bullied.
So wholesome seeing Michaels face during the National Anthem, knowing he’s just so happy to be involved in something.

I met John one time he was in line in front of me at Starbucks .. I let a few people go on front of me so I could get next to him... After a bit I summoned up the courage to say hi... He was very nice and I asked him about playing Jim and the vibe on the office then I asked him about Stanley as a character and he said why don't you shove it up your butt. I replied " you have been meat balled" we said nothing else and walked away from eachother with a nod of mutual respect
