I love black stone cherry. When they did this video they had people send in photos of their fathers that passed away. My daddy had just passed away 3 months prior and my son sent in a photo for me.

@@rickyhensley1793 I'm so sorry for your loss. My father had cancer and held on long enough to see me get married, as soon as I said "I do" he closed his eyes and died at my wedding. It was a bitter sweet day.

Fun fact, a couple of their parents are in the Kentucky Headhunters. That living room is in an old house in the middle of nowhere and the Headhunters practiced there for years. The video Davy Crockett was shot in that same living room about 30 years ago

And we played this song at his funeral.
Very upsetting watching this, and listening to this song again.

These guys are from my home county in south central Kentucky. I worked the graveyard shift at white castle when I was a kid, they'd come through after playing parties and shit and get some food and hang out in the parking lot winding down. Real cool humble guys. They still do free shows in their hometown once or twice a year.

Music can be so powerful and evoke so many feelings. "Wake Me When September Ends" is one of my favorite songs but can be so painful to listen to. And in the few years after it came out more things happened to add to it which just pissed me off, there's 11 other months, but no. Then there are songs you've loved since you were a kid and make you happy but then something happens and that song is playing in the back round or is the first you hear on the radio after, etc. and that is what you always remember from then on. It took me a very long time to listen to some of my favorites and some days it's still too hard.

I wish I had had a good father. Mine was sick, and my childhood was bad. He died when I was ten. But the way things were around our house, I didn't really have a childhood, and I lacked confidence all thru-out my life. My mom was inundated with getting us off to school, working, then coming home and cooking for all of us, and taking care of him. She told me once, later in life, that she regretted letting him control her, and that he wouldn't let her spend time with us kids. My older sister and brothers did what they could to help mom raise me (I was the youngest) and my brother, who was 2nd youngest. My older siblings have expressed hatred of him, over the years. I told them holding on to that anger was only hurting them. I chose to forgive my father, because he couldn't help being sick. But I still find myself flaring with anger from my lost childhood, and the way it affected my entire life! So I guess I only realize he needs forgiveness, and maybe I haven't really completely settled it yet. Either way, seeing videos, and seeing people talk about how much they miss their dad, Seems fairly foreign to me. I know you did Living Years, by Mike & The Mechanics. That is one song I do feel like I identify with. Because I wish I could have actually told my father how much he hurt me, mentally, as a child. Maybe then, I'd feel better.

God gave me a miracle of finding my father 5 yrs ago. Sadly he died last yrs and I was told I was not allowed to go and say my good bye by family members. In the short time of knowing him, I appreciated his love. Do I miss him? Oh yes, but I know I will see my father again. This song brought me to tears. The message was awesome.

Ramona Klassen I'm so sorry for your loss, it was absolutely wrong not to include you. You are his child, you are Family. Thanks to Ancestry.com, Our Brother was able to find his Family, we are Blessed. He's been searching for his Family ( his Mom refused to tell him who his Dad was & never told our Dad. ) Now we are all trying to hurry & get to know everything about him & him about us. He's so excited to have his Dad ,two brothers and Amazing Sister (me) Haha !! in his life. We are blessed with a Sister-in-law, 3 Nieces, a Nephew and two great Nephews. God is Good, We are Blessed, Amen

@@donnapardue2239thank you so much for sharing your story. Similar to mine. Finding a first cousin on Ancestry after a DNA test who is a daughter of my dads twin brother. I have a few Aunts and Uncle, and plenty of cousins I can't count. They are all in MO and KS. I begged my mom for years to tell me as well but had to acept she was to drunk to know, so I gave it to the Lord and years after my mom died, the Lord came thru and the funny thing was I had stopped wondering about my dad. Genealogy is a hobby of mine.

May is hard on me too. I lost both of my Grandmothers in May 11th (3 years apart) My late uncle and sister were born in May of the 8th and 9th. All month I think of those who left me years ago. Gone but not forgotten. This is my first time hearing this song. I like it.

Thank you Ty and everyone else for the kind words..Yes the words in this song really hit me every time i hear it. I try to just listen to it the month of May, I wallow for a bit, then I pick myself up, put my big girl panties back on then move on and try to stick to the great memories of my parents the rest of year because I know they both would hate the thought of me being so sad over their loss.

Thank you for this reaction video, Blackstone Cherry is very underrated, they have so many good songs, but so few people know of them. Sadly, there are no good memories or feelings regarding my father, he was a mean and hateful human being that hurt everyone in his life BUT he finally got saved at the age of 86, less than 2 weeks before he passed away.
