I never had a father so I change the lyrics in my head the grandma. She died yesterday due to lung cancer and this song is perfect to describe her lessons to me. R.I.P Nan, you were like a mother to me and I love you so much. See you soon angel.
5 hours ago my father died for a fulminant heart attack, he was in good health, I know this band and I knew this song but I never expected to listen it for this horrible reason, NEVER. My father now is in his bed resting in peace. we are waiting for the doctor to declare this tragedy. I can t watch him cold, I can t stop crying. He is only 56 years old, he is a guitarist, a singer, a worker, a husband, a brother, a friend and of course The best father in the world. Rest in peace Pepito. Te quiero mucho, tu hijo metalero que te amara para siempre.
I failed at many things in my life. I made one promise to myself... to be the best father my son could ever have. Seventeen years of being a single dad later, I've been rewarded with a son who makes me beam with pride every time I think of him. I hope my father knows just how great an example he set for me. Miss you Dad! I only wish you were here to meet your only grandson.
Thanksgiving day 1990 I lost my dad to cancer. I was 23 My first born was due in January. He tried so hard to hang around till then but his body wouldn’t let him. I was helping him in the bathroom that morning and when I helped him to stand up from the toilet he grabbed me tight and hugged me for the first time since I was a little boy. No words, just a long hug. He passed on about three hours later. His only sons first son was born a month later on Christmas a month early premature. Two dates I shall remember forever. Miss you dad
I am so sorry. My father made it after a stroke to see his grandson, only to have him ripped from his weak hands from my ex, and disappeared for a week
MY PRAYERS GO OUT TO U N THE REST OF UR FAMILY, I LOST MY DAD IN 78 CANCER, N I LOST MY MOM IN 2021 TWO DAYS BEFORE MOTHER'S DAY, BUT LET ME TELL U THEY KNOW U LOVE THEM N U ALWAYS WILL FOREVER, ALWAYS IN YOUR ❤S
There's nothing I would love more, but for my father to call me one last time. To hear his voice. Just to say, be careful. Talk to you soon.. For God's sake, I miss him.....
I come here each Father’s Day when I wake up…it’s sad, I cry, but then a feeling of happiness comes over me. For some reason, I always feel like he listens to it with me…it helps me get through the day❤️
I played this song at my dad's funeral 9 and a half years ago... and I just have to say thank you for making music to say the words I couldn't get to come out that day. Also I still come back and listen to it from time to time and think about my old man. Thank you
Sorry for your loss bro, my father passed away back in 2010 and I know how tough it is. Your in my prayers and if you ever need someone to talk to I'm here
Just like almost every man here, i said last goodbye to my father a couple of weeks ago... Even though he was of age and we were fortunate enough to send him on his last trip in his dream, next to the love of his life, he`s gonna be missed and remembered... And to every man who had to deal with a loss of a father (recently or not) - there`s no better way to honor their memory by being the men they`ve always wanted us to be... until we see them again...
My dad passed away on the 26th March 2019. Very unexpectedly, we buried on the 29th March, the next day was his 59th birthday. There are so many things i never got to say to him when he was here, this song says them all. R.I.P dad.
Thank you guys, I my fathers funeral was yesterday. He died a week ago at the age of 81. 3 days ago I was moving the lawn, getting the house ready for the guests, and came across this song. Haven't cried like that in years. I just really wanted to say thank you. Cheers everyone, and hold on brothers!
Three years ago today in the early morning hours, Dad left this world, but his spirit still stays with me. We love you, Dad. 5/1/59 - 7/7/18 Carry On, Magic Man. He loved this song, we used to listen to it together when he was with us. Thank you eternally, Black Stone Cherry.
This song touched me deeply, Seven years ago today, my Dad was placed in hospice care. He passed peacefully at about 7:30 am ET, Sept. 28, 2017. What I learned from him? It was not what he said, it was how he acted out what was important to him. Keeping a sense of humor, especially in trying times, is important. On the 27th, Mom and I were visiting him. He did not take a nap that afternoon. Staying awake, just being with us, and listening to us talk about what family is doing/latest craft projects (no surprise there). It came time for supper. The aide was feeding him, and I just started talking about food topics. He held up his hand and did that hand gesture for talking. He smiled at me when I said, “I guess I talk a lot.” This man was slipping away and he had to make a joke. I learned patriotism from Dad. He was in the National Guard from age 16 until age 60. At every parade we went to, every U.S. flag that went by, he stood at attention, and put his hand over his heart. He was from a long line of men who served in the military. He and his brother(WWII), their father(WWI), their grandfather(my great-grandfather) was born in 1865 and was too old for WWI, my G-Gdad’s father and Uncle Franz were German immigrants(1848) who were veterans of the Civil War. Dad would have been very pleased to have had military honors as a portion of his burial ceremony.
madhousemortuary sith - I know it's been a few years since you wrote this comment but, I just found this song and band. Awesome. I was just playing a guitar my Dad left me that he bought in 1964. Dads been gone a year now, and it's still tough. I was such a fuck up when he was around. Had to grow up a lot in the past year. Wish Dad was here to see it. Anyways, I think of him Everytime I play this old Gibson. I swear I feel him here sometimes. He used to love to hear me play. God bless bro.
Im from South Korea and have 4yrs old son. When I saw my son I think of my father. Although My father was not a good person - he had no regular job and drank a lot, so my mother worked instead of him. So I didn't like him until he passed away in 2013 - sometimes I miss my father...
My big brother sent me and my siblings this song today. We lost our father in SEPT. 2022. God rest his soul. It still hurts till this minute. A powerful message in a POWERFUL song... as soon as it starts it hits you across the face with emotion. May this song bring peace to those who have lost a good father. God bless all the fathers whos passed. May they have eternal rest in peace 🙏
My father passed away in 2011 and right after he passed away I found this CD of a band called Black Stone Cherry.. never heard of them but I listened to the CD and found the song Things My Father Said!!! I have to say God works in mysterious ways!!! Great Song!!!!
I lost my father 5 years ago. He was 58 when I lost him. This song, and this group are so underrated. This song is amazing. Every time I listen to it, I look to the sky, I kiss a ring that was left to me and smile. So I want to say thank you to Black Stone Cherry for such an amazing song!
I just love this song.. it makes me cry everytime I hear it. I lost my dad this year on Valentine's day, 2/14/20. Theres not a day that goes by where I dont think of him. I miss him so much. I love you pops and hope you are watching over me.
I lost my father a year ago to cancer. I heard this song a few weeks ago when driving back from visiting my mum and I had stop the car. Now I cannot stop listening to Black Stone Cherry.
My Dad was a Medic stationed in Germany in WWII. He’s been gone since Oct ‘03. It’s songs like this that pay proper respect to the fathers of all generations, especially that one. ❤
Wow. Any father, who can make it through this without their "allergies " acting up is more man than me for damn sure. Thank you BSC we needed this one.
When this song came out I thought it was a really great song. But. When my father passed away this song became an incredible song. My father was my biggest fan. Not a day goes by that I don’t think of him. I wish I would have told John Fred Young how much that song meant to me when I saw and talked to him yesterday.
15 years ago today I lost my dad to cancer which came back with a vengeance, always made this song the first I listen to on every anniversary of it. I can't thank you guys enough for giving it to us, it means so much. Even after all this time. 🖤 To fathers everywhere. 🍻
There's so many negative songs out there about dads, I'm glad this is here for those of us who had great fathers, like I had. It's been 12 years since I lost him & there isn't a single day in those 12 years that I haven't had something about him come to mind at least once a day. If not more. Thanks for this beautiful song.
my father died years ago, still miss him to this very day,and have a photo of him on my lounge wall, and he was the best dad i could ever have. love this song.
Lost my dad in 2009. I often play this song especially around this time of year (October) It's become our anthem. It's been 14 years since your passing dad but not a day goes by that I don't miss you in my life. RIP Dad!!
My dad passed away in 2016, this song touches my heart, I listen to it all the time and stare at mine and my dads photo together in my garage. Thank you so much for this song, love it, best song ever.
I lost my dad a year and a half ago at 58 and very unexpectedly. This song has been a saving grace and it comes from one of my favorite bands...tears everytime. Thank you, BSC for such amazing feeling in all that you create.
Love you Dad . Time does not heal this pain. Not a day that I don't wish you were here. Matthews 28:20. R.I.P. 12-29-15 the day my world changed forever!
My father passed away just last month from a supposively setup involved with an OD and we would always listen to you guys together (I’m 14 years old btw) and listening to this song after he’s gone hurts but helps so much.
My father passed on 7-26-07. I found this song about a month ago and it gave me chills and brought me to tears. He passed away before I could get off work to say goodbye. He knows I love him and miss him. On 7-26-17, I listened to this song all day at work for about 9 hours. I still love this song. Great song to help remember Dad.
Thanks for this song, my father died in 2005 when i was 19yo, Every years, i listen this song on father's day, and every day i cry, but i love this song and this video... seeing all this persons and all these photos of missing dads, i know am not alone, and i know that lot of people around the world share this pain. Thanks again ❤
Never mind these modern songs about love and depression. This song out of them all is the most touching. My dad is alive and well however I listen to this song over and over again and realise how powerful it is. Sure bought a tear to my eye :(
July 1st, 2018 - my Father, the healthiest, strongest member of my house...a sudden, unexplainable heart failure...it took him too early. My whole life has just changed, and the first song that I get on my playlists to try and find some peace...is this song. And I remember asking my old man to listen to this song; he did, and he gave me a hug in tears...and said, "I love you kiddo." I don't know why I'm doing this on the internet...but I love you Dad. I miss you.
I didnt know these guys, came across them by accident and have become a big fan....I lost my son last year and this song makes me think of him...I miss him everyday
Yea,we lost our Dad in '98 I was 22 He was a man of few words, he did show us how to sing and play guitar,so we remember him. I miss you Dad,Elvis forever!!!
This..Just fuckin' this. Ive listened to this for years, yeah my dad is still with me. We just went to watch England at Twickenham.THIS SONG, Its SO FUCKIN' Close to my heart. I love the bloke, and I Fuckin' love this song. Black Stone Cherry, i've seen you twice. you are absolutely fucking awesome. Keep fucking doing what you are doing...Epic blokes. x
I haven't lost my dad yet, but the last 5 years I lost time with him. We both missed out on a lot of each other those 5 years all because of he said she said drama. We finally reconnected back in May and it was like we never lost touch. He may not be the perfect person, but he's my dad and I love him. Never let drama come between you and the ones you love. It will cost you in the end.
I lost my dad 11/12/2002 and it will always be a day I dread. I went to wake him up and found him. A few years ago Black Stone Cherry did a tour and when they came to the city closest to me was the day before my dad's anniversary. To say I was in tears when they played this live is an understatement 💔
My dad's 30th birthday was the day I was born. This past Tuesday , I sang and played my acoustic, for his funeral. Dad was a Kentucky farming family person with old fashioned values. Thank you for such good music.
We had "things my father said " played as my dads funeral on the 14th of December this year I love this tune so before dad passed I asked him if I could have it at his funeral he said yes I could he passed from aspestos cancer but he is now as peace love you dad xxx
this song means everything to me. my father took his life on Sunday. 8/7/16..he spent his childhood working his ass off to provide for his 7 brothers and sisters. a great man who lived with a devil of a step dad..i love you dad, RIP. your pain is over.
After I buried my dad I went back to the cemetery that night with a few of my closest friends to hang out with my dad one last time this is one of the songs I played in rememberance, and to honor my father. He was a great father not only to his own kids but to all of my friends as well he was like a community father. I love this song even tho I can't listen to it without shedding tears, and I love this band I have followed this band every since I went to a festival in Edmonton and heard these guys with my own ears. They was there playing great music with another great band Kentucky Headhunters keep rocking Black Stone Cherry. I also enjoyed going to a local bar in bowling green KY, and listening to a local band called thin line where Chris would often come and sing with his father, my friend Steve may he rest in peace. Sorry for your loss Chris you father too was a great man💯🤘
If you could watch this video straight through without tearing up..regardless of your father passing away or not, or whether your some tough guy or not..its impossible - Love this song..and haters hate because they could never sing such a song so beautifully.
MrGhostman666 I understand how you feel. I was only 3 when my parents broke up. My mother got both me and my sister. And i can tell what that did to my dad. He tells me about spending Christmas alone, he always gets emotional when we talk about it. I moved to live with my dad when i was 13 ( When i was old enough to realise how he must have felt) . Atleast now we've made up a few of the wasted years. im 17 now. Hope you're with your kids now! x
there are times, that i'd wish i'd have a father i could say goodbye to, with feeling and heart.. not to be reminded that i never could say goodbye, because he wasn't there.... love the song, so much feeling in it.
that voice though.. i love the voice of the singer, it really sinks in. a band i've never heard before today, and it's so great, keep up the good work ya'll
I have been playing to this song quite a few times this past week. If you decide to listen to it, listen carefully. I would like to dedicate this song to my father in heaven. God took him from my family 41 years ago at the age of 49.
Lost my Dad in Feb.of 2000 then His Mother/ My Grandmother, in April 2000. My Best friend, Which I lost in August of 2011(10) yrs. ago Turned me on to these guys before her passing, So they have a Special place in my heart. This Song is very ( for a lack of a better word) Powerful and hits you in the Heart. Tell the people that are important in your life just how important they are to you because life is Short, We don't know when our time is up. Give our loved ones a Hug and hold on as long as you can....Black Stone Cherry Kicks Ass!!♥️♥️
My son and I went to a concert just to see them play six songs as an opening act. We were standing up. This is one of the best bands out there. The UK adores them and they cannot even make a living touring in America. I am 50 years old and this is one of my favorite bands.
I know this song is about fathers but I just lost my grandma this Saturday just gone and this song popped into my head. She was somewhat of a father figure to me and since her passing I’ve been having difficulty dealing with my emotions. This song helped me to cry but instead of feeling sad I felt happy remembering the good times and all she did for me. I love you Nana and miss you wherever you are I hope you’re watching over me
Love this track so much, unfortunately my dad passed away in 2010 when i was just 19 years old, this song always reminds me of him, how proud i was to have him as my dad and the amazing person he was! Never forgotten 😢
I lost my Daddy back in '98 and I miss him everyday. If you still have your father, enjoy your time with him because it hurts like crazy when they're gone!
My son was born today, I dearly miss my dad and wish he was here for this special moment.. I love you all whoever feels my pain.
You already carry the best of him and will pass it on...stay strong! it's what your father would want.
I never had a father so I change the lyrics in my head the grandma. She died yesterday due to lung cancer and this song is perfect to describe her lessons to me. R.I.P Nan, you were like a mother to me and I love you so much. See you soon angel.

As long as you have a father, be thankful for him!

I lost my Dad 23 years ago. I never had the chance to say goodbye or tell him that he was my hero.
The lead vocalist has such a great tone in his voice. This song is a beautiful tribute to fathers everywhere.
I miss him so much😢😢 it won't get better with time, it only gets harder and harder for me😭😭😭😭💔🖤🖤🖤
I'm gonna be a dad worthy of this song.
Simon thank you for putting my life goals into words.
I failed at many things in my life. I made one promise to myself... to be the best father my son could ever have. Same. My father was always like a stranger living in the same house. I want to be the dad my father didn't give a fuck to be.
3 years later I hope you are living this dream. This country needs more fathers worthy of this song!!
This is so nice to read

It wasn't just the things dad said, but also the way he said it.
never had a song hit me this hard.miss you dad
This Song brings tears to my eyes every time.
I just lost my mother two days ago, and even though song is about fathers, it hit me really hard. Thank you for this wonderful message.
It gets better you just have to wait. Its been 10 years im still dealing with it
Love you Dad .
May God bless you always 🙏
My father passed on 7-26-07. I found this song about a month ago and it gave me chills and brought me to tears. He passed away before I could get off work to say goodbye. He knows I love him and miss him. On 7-26-17, I listened to this song all day at work for about 9 hours. I still love this song. Great song to help remember Dad.
...beautiful
We played that song at my dad's funeral. Always makes me cry when I hear it. Crazy, it's already 3 years ago....
This song makes me cry and smile at the same time. It also helped me get thru his death in 2017. RIP Old Man!
Never mind these modern songs about love and depression. This song out of them all is the most touching. My dad is alive and well however I listen to this song over and over again and realise how powerful it is. Sure bought a tear to my eye :(
Man this really hits home. I just lost my pops on Christmas eve a few months back. Thanks fellas for the great song. He was truly my best friend.
July 1st, 2018 - my Father, the healthiest, strongest member of my house...a sudden, unexplainable heart failure...it took him too early. My whole life has just changed, and the first song that I get on my playlists to try and find some peace...is this song. And I remember asking my old man to listen to this song; he did, and he gave me a hug in tears...and said, "I love you kiddo."
I don't know why I'm doing this on the internet...but I love you Dad. I miss you.
So sorry
Lost my Dad this past Christmas, this touches my heart, so beautiful from one of my favourite bands ever 😍👍👍

My father still lives and this song made me cry anyways, damn...
Lost my Daddy in 1985.....& this song is still a super tear-jerker.
This song is so incredibly powerful to me. I've listened to it five times and I cry every time
Same here man.
You and everybody else.
As a father of 5.
I only want my children to be successful and enjoy their lives.
My own father was a shithead and taught me nothing.
Great song. Gets me right in the heart. Thank God that I still have my dad. He is getting up in years so I try to see him as much as I can.
...every year i get to watch this...19 yrs have passed, still feels like yesterday. thank u BSC for turning into music whats inside of me.
We had "things my father said " played as my dads funeral on the 14th of December this year I love this tune so before dad passed I asked him if I could have it at his funeral he said yes I could he passed from aspestos cancer but he is now as peace love you dad xxx
Brett Cunningham much love and respect bro. Your dad would be proud of you immensely
this song means everything to me. my father took his life on Sunday. 8/7/16..he spent his childhood working his ass off to provide for his 7 brothers and sisters. a great man who lived with a devil of a step dad..i love you dad, RIP. your pain is over.
Im sorry man my friends dad took his life after her mom passed from cancer.
Miss my kids so much and hope they grow and understand that their dad will never give up trying to be with them..
Hang in their Brother. Took me nearly five years in court to see mine but it's worth it in the end. Hope its sooner rather than later for you.
thanks brother..really appreciate it..
Kids always come back... you can't get back the time missed but you can have a relationship with them in the end.
thank you...not seeing them grow is the hardest bit..one moment you have everything and now all gone and it is real..
Is it bad that every time i listen to this song i start to get all emotional!!
I think that's the whole point of the song.
no it isn't weird I get emotional too..........!!
Tomgirl In Love haha Idek why but I get tears in my eyes lok
I have been playing to this song quite a few times this past week. If you decide to listen to it, listen carefully. I would like to dedicate this song to my father in heaven. God took him from my family 41 years ago at the age of 49.
I try my best. I fail often but succeed more. My son knows daily he’s loved. ❤️❤️❤️
I miss you dad...🙏
Don't understand why this doesn't have a lot of hits...
Small GREAT Kentucky Band What Has Talent What No Body Hear
My son and I went to a concert just to see them play six songs as an opening act. We were standing up. This is one of the best bands out there. The UK adores them and they cannot even make a living touring in America. I am 50 years old and this is one of my favorite bands.
Hearing this song live made me bawl my eyes out, my husband had to explain to the woman sat next to me about my dear deceased dad.
Lost my dad a few days ago. This song really hits hard now.
I lost my Daddy back in '98 and I miss him everyday. If you still have your father, enjoy your time with him because it hurts like crazy when they're gone!
I lost my father 3 months after my mother. Really BLACK year. Song is such an incredible reminder
I think we all came here for the same reason...
I miss you dad, despite the last years were pretty bad....
