Man, get SO MUCH different reels and rods now days, it's confusing, and their expensive as hell... Thank you for putting this information out so old guys like me that've been out of the game for a while can catch up...
No downside, often the rods from Walmart have kind of random or old school specs. While they may have a 1.5oz rating they may be not intending for Hawaii style cast and retrieve “whipping”
So you said for plugging for bigfish you wanna go for rod that is rated 1 and half oz to 2oz and before that you said anything you throwing 2 oz and above you are plugging and anything less than 2oz you are whipping. With that logic wouldn't it be a rod rated 2oz and higher good for plugging. I am getting super confused. If you still read comments on this video of your then i would really appreciated and explanation. Thanks !
This video was posted well before I decided to call anything over 2oz “Plugging”. To clarify with current data and opinions set in place. 2oz-5oz for “Plugging”
Love those old school Penn reels in the background. Good job.
The best

Great videos! I’m going to be staying in Poipu beach. Is your store close to there?
Sorry, different island.
I have an Okuma Hawaiian custom 10’7 married to a Penn battle 3 4000hs that I use to plug in the SF beaches.Would this be ok for whipping in the 808?
Absolutely 👍🏽
Sounds good mahalo 🤙🏽
Yeah, for a whipping rod, what is the downside to a Walmart rod in the 1.5oz range?

What is “plugging”? Did you mean plunking?
Plugs are lures: Stick, Poppers, Pencils. Throwing Plugs turned into “plugging.”
