Much easier to remove the shocks when the tire is removed.

I replaced my shocks just like yours but there is loose play on top as they did not tighten snugly as the older ones...Any ideas why that is?

Donald Trump Hi, Check that you have correctly installed all top shock absorber bushings .

I have installed the one plastic bushing on top (it is thick) but there's still a lot of play. Should I use two bushings instead of 1?

Depending on what type shock absorbers you have , some should have 2 bushings on the top, some just like the original one only 1 so you should disassemble and check again.
