The dodge mechanic is made inadequate due to roll cancel, meaning every groove with a roll is vastly superior due to the fact that they can turn any normal or special move completely invincible lol
@jp3813 I don't think you grasped my post: roll cancel is so grossly overpowered that any groove that doesn't feature the "roll" mechanic is patently unviable. S & P groove are non-viable. I don't think K is viable, but some people do because it can get off 2 lvl 3 supers in one round...like n groove does...and n groove has the roll mechanic...and n groove doesn't have to take damage to get supers (lol) C, A, and N are the only truly viable grooves.
@LIONTAMER3D the only health point is the last one.Just treat your low health as your new max health. Much easier to get a perfect with infinite level 1 supers.
And yet, in professional play, it's considered the 'worst' groove because it has to deal with C-A-N roll cancel supremacy, K rage and Parry being better for reversal than the Spot dodge. But it's still so damn fun to see someone evaporate because they forgot you have infinite desperation super. CvS 2 is True Love.
And also that prior to desperation, you can only build up super by standing still and charging, and the only reasonable time to do this is after an opponent gets knocked down, which lets them get back up and basically resets to neutral.
Nice, i miss the videos that have this teaching/tutorial line. I find that a particular type of content that you learned to make very well. @@deskcombo Actually, funny thing… I don’t know if you’ve ever been told this before, but I almost feel like it’s especially important that you credit the songs you’re using _because_ you’re a heck of a musician yourself: I know you’ve used your own music from time to time, so now, every time I notice you haven’t specified what the music is, I always just assume that it’s probably something you made. 😅
First off, whatever emulator you are using to play Cvs2 makes this game look INCREDIBLE @ 4K! The 3D backgrounds look AWESOME, so much better than the arcade/old console ports, plus the other visual effects like supers look DAZZLING! Then you got this FREAKIN' KICKIN' music track you're using while showing your awesome creative combos as usual! Great stuff Desk :D
This video was so amazing. I barely knew about these mechanics (i use C and P groove mostly). I definetly want to jump back and mess around with S groove now!
Today i decided to did two single arcade playthroughs with Orochi Iori & Sagat using the S groove. I bet the sub boss Geese, but didn't get any finest kos or get 1500 GPS so in both playthroughs i got regular Rugal as the boss so i decided to do playthroughs with Evil Ryu, Akuma & Rugal using the C & P grooves.
Well its no wonderous thought that most CVS2 Pros tend to use P-Groove at mild times now that somebody like desk has shown what it is really all about. this was badass!
I remember using S-Groove a lot when I played this as a kid, since I didn't know anything about competitive play and just wanted to act out DBZ fantasies. Fitting that Goku is in there, then, ain't it? lmao
It's almost certain that charging up was invented for the genre by AOF based on DBZ after all. Im not sure if DBZ invented energy (Ki) charging but it was the series that popularized it anyway, and the most popular series doing that by the time of AOF (1992).
The most legendary fighting game of all time. S-groove was never my jam but gotta respect it. Got owned by a few S-groove Hibiki players back in the day.
..the number of 'likes' in ratio to the number of 'views' this video has is insane given the quality of the content..such a classic that keeps on bringing it!! #CvS2
Have you thought of making a video compiling variants of the "fighting mode select" system? Invented by SNK but popularized by Capcom in CvS2's "grooves". They dont deserve individual videos like these groove videos, but a compilation would look nice, maybe in 2 parts if needed. KOF 97, 98UM, Neowave, Last Blade, SFA3, etc...
Bro, I used to main S-Groove Rolento/Ryo/Zangief. I wasn't the best at my local arcade, but I always rocked newcomers until they learned to adapt to me 😆 best fighting game ever IMO
C is original sf groove 3 bars A is like alpha, custom combo P is like 3rd strike, parry S is video N is like kof expert mode K is like samsho with rage on damage taken.
You call them alpha counters. I call them guard cancel blowback attacks. We are not the same. I mean, it's the S of SNK. Using the Capcom name for the mechanic was a little confusing at first.
cvs2 Is still the GOAT of Capcom fighters. Hope to see a true follow up some day now that both are in a good position compared to after this game. Imagine SF current roster vs KOF current roster. The possibilities are endless.
S-Groove is inspired by early KOF games ('94 to '96, '97 and '98 Extra Mode). In those games, you can charge your super bar, you got static dodging (or spotdodge), and you get unlimited supers at low health. If you charge the super bar however at low health your standard supers become more powerful. Rolldodging and running come from '96 (and are the standard onwards; in '97 and '98 these two mechanics are included in Advanced Mode, which is what N-Groove is based on) and I assume the Alpha Counter is supposed to represent the Blow Back moves from '97 onwards.
As a working filmmaker. I recognize videos like these as art. Keep going desk! I see you.
shocked at the decision to pass up showing off dhalsim's "run" animation during that animation showcase

The dodge mechanic is made inadequate due to roll cancel, meaning every groove with a roll is vastly superior due to the fact that they can turn any normal or special move completely invincible lol
