Very helpful to see a walk-through talk-through. Kind thanks. I'll be looking at my 2007 Saab 9-3 1.9 TiD 150bhp later
The two bolts with 13mm socket heads actually screw into the gasket first to hold it (pipe from EGR cooler), so no need to have 10 pairs of hands to hold the gasket in place. I have an Alfa GT 1.9jtd- same engine. I have done a partial EGR block off to greatly reduce smoke, no engine light as there is still some flow through.
Just watched the video and cleaned the EGR valve on my Saab 9-3 (150bhp) 2005 model.
Have to say this was so so simple to do and the video made it so . . . clear and easy to follow. Early days to see if it's totally cured the problem but I would have no hesitation in replacing it after watching just how easy it is.
Thank You :o)
I'm glad it went well! Thanks for your comment, I really appreciate your feedback. Knowing this helps so many people encourages me to keep producing more.
It's exactly the same parts and method for Alfa Romeo and Fiat 1.9 jtd. Great guides keep them coming!
Mona Dohle Thanks for your support, Mona!
it's brilliant also because of the shouting over the traffic and the soiled camera lense.
the procedure is fully explained
Ever thought about drilling the electrical pin. And using a centre punch to push out the value and spring. Clean any debris and grease and refit. That's how I did mine 👌
Just done it on a 150bhp Saab 9-3 and found the video a great help.. Thanks a lot!
Pádraig Walsh Thanks for your comment, glad that it helped!
Really good video thanks. Seeing what order to undo the bolts in was very helpful. I would have lost those gaskets for sure!
Thanks for your comments and support. Glad it helped. Have more work planned for this engine so subscribe and stay tuned.
This was a great help when I cleaned out the egr on a saab 9-3 tdi. Thank you.
+John Smith I'm glad this helped out with your Saab. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave feedback. Appreciate your support.
The best video for this problem! Thanks!

+Liam Macguinness I'm glad you found it helpful- thanks a lot for taking the time to comment.
Brilliant guide! All back together! Nice video!
+ZX300BoY So glad you found this useful and cleaned your EGR. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
+Redline Revs
Many Thanks! Very Helpfull!
great video have a saab 93 this helped me a lot thank you for posting
I have just done mine using an ultrasonic bath, it came out looking really clean with no carbon anywhere. I removed the electric part first before putting it in the bath.
really good presentation. I bought some cleaner for under £4 a can. no brained to do it myself.
Brillant video, thanks. Slight hint: if this is the common location where you film your videos running the sound track through a low pass filter cutting off above around 500Hz might reduce the motorway noise quite a bit. Demux with, say ProjectX (open src freeware) or any other video demuxer, filter Sound track with Audacity (oss freeware, too) and remux.
Nice guide my wifes EGR was clogged, i also bought new genuine gaskets for £6 delivered saves stressing about loosing them,.
Graham Reid thank you for taking the time to comment, glad it helped.
Clear simple tutorial, thanks going to attempt this tomorrow. Should be pretty simple after watching your video. Keep the videos coming.
thanks for this video, I hope my ob II cod P400 be fix, when I clean EGR
thanks pal, that is a massive help for me.
mick williams Thanks for your comment Mick, glad to be able to help. More videos on 1.9cdti in the pipeline so stay tuned.
I never knew Prince William carried out car repairs on the hard shoulder! 🙂
Great video! Thanks a lot!!
+Basic002 Happy to hear it helped. Thanks for watching and commenting.
thx helped me a lot
Glad I could help, thanks for your support. Subscribe and stay tuned for more.
I have a 55 plate facelift 1.8 petrol 16v club vectra,is my egr in the same place and issit stripped and cleaned in the same way as your video. Cheers
I have been doing this on my Saab for years when EML light comes on. You then need to reset the fault code to clear the EML light. Additionally remove the sensor just before the EGR valve and clean it as that is what sets the EML on
I'm looking at my mums car and I can't find the egr valve yet the rest of the engine looks exactly the same help!!!
Good job friend🇪🇸👌👌👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you! Hope it helped!
perfect thanks all went well
jack daniels Glad to be able to help.
Just wanted to thank ya mr for this vid, brillante it was Very helpfull. I have the opel vectra 1.9 cdti 150 hp and ive had it for 9 years now and i ve never claened the egr valve. and so it was a big sugsess. cheers mr👍😎 Richi...Islas canarias....
Really glad this helped, thanks for taking the time to comment. If you ever do the job again you can purchase an inexpensive EGR reducing gasket which will only allow a small amount of exhaust gasses to be redirected to your inlet manifold, enough to not trip the emissions light but much less likely to gunk up again in future. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
thanks for your support.
Gary Lunt You're welcome!
cool video. was the EML on is that why you had to clean the egr valve
Litle difrent fittet this model than same engine from 2008, there its ,tre bolts of the side , with a distance bracket betwin the inletmanifold and Egr valve , i do cleaned the trottle unit, and the EGR valve too day
good vid, but i would be worried about that coolant level more than the EGR
Thanks for watching, coolant already topped up since this was filmed!
just found video and watched it and then cleaned the egr valve ,very well explained ,i all so found there was no gasket on the electrical side of the egr valve does it matter if this is missing many thanks saves me money
derek steele Thanks for your comment Derek, glad to be able to help. My brother is still driving this car with that gasket missing and no faults, so you should be fine. Hope to have more videos for 1.9cdti soon.
Hi, I got my Vectra lost power. Error code shows intake air system leak. Gave to a local garrage and they changed new EGR valve. The problem came again while on road and broke down in middle of road as it cant climb steep roads. Can you advise me to fix it. Where can I take it to.
did mine yesterday. That thing was really dirty. Isn´t there any cleaning needed for the pipe between the turbo charger and the EGR? How about those liquid cleaners like Pro-Line AGR cleaner Diesel from LIQUI MOLY? Wouldn´t that be an alternative, faster and all the way through the intake manifold?
compassdetectors Thanks for your comment. You can remove pipe from Turbo to EGR and spray it down with some intake/carb cleaner. I haven't tried Pro-line EGR. Incidentally I just cleaned my EGR valve agian this time used Wynns Air Intake / Carburetor cleaner and had same results, plus its in a cheaper and bigger can than the EGR-specific product. Best way to do intake manifold will be to remove it and and chemical or flame clean it. Will do a video when I get round to it myself.
i have vauxhall signum 1.9cdti year 05 i just changed DMF & starter motor & put in swirl flaps when i am driving alot it loss powder but if i turn it of & back on it is alrite agian what is wrong with it please
tom deloughery could be vnt mechanism inside turbo. Check out my Mr muscle turbo clean video.
there are only 2 gaskets the square one and the one connecting to the exhaust
I have 1.9 cdti vaxuxhallb have change the egr valve but still power lost with rev any ideas what the problem could be
+tim peter
Swirl Flaps, may be.
Hey redline, remember me 😊 I had a Leon TDI cupra and done your Mr muscle clean video... Anyway a quick question mate, I have a Saab 93 150 Tid with this same engine in this video and was wondering what that bottle is under the big black dome thing? 1:19 in this vid. Cheers pal.
power steering fluid.
when reinstalling the gaskets would it not be a better idea to use gasket sealer/glue as apposed to trying hold the parts together ? thanks
or just buy new ones
@@GrahamReid34 yeah they're cheap about £5 ebay
Hi I've got a 120 brake Vectra 1.9 CDTi and not not revving property after 3000 revs it's not the air from metre what could it be I think it could be a g r valve as I take it off and revs ok any suggestions please
Stephen Harper Hey Stephen, it could be a number of things. If the EGR valve hasn't been cleaned recently it would be worth taking it apart and cleaning as shown in this video. Is the car going into limp mode? Could be a boost leak or maybe sticky vanes in the turbo? I've shown how to fix VNT turbos in this video, on VW 1.9tdi, but the principles are exactly the same: ruclips.net/video/56oIU-sF7d0/видео.html
Thanks m8 will taking off and clean it tomorrow and hopefully it should be ok if not I will message you back is ok
Anytime bro. Good luck.
Solenoid waste gate. Check the small black pipe for rips. At the front of the engine goes into little filter next to your fuse box. Two pipes come from it
Hi my vectral 2004 1.9 looses power past 2.8 (approx) revs garage said EPU EGR or air flow filter. New air flow thingy , no change. They said if its the EPU not worth doing ( EGR is 3 or 4 hundred. What would be a fair price if i asked them the take off the EGR and clean it?
Do you have a garage where are you?
+djnashemc Hey, I'm in West London. Don't have a garage but could do the job. I would say it shouldn't cost any more than £40-60 at a good garage, but I've never gone to a garage to do this job so unsure what they would charge exactly.
its done 130 k apart for the EGR i think it needs a good clean out. this over vid used in trade only flush, they cleaned out the manifold too
+djnashemc 130k I blank it off with a gasket. Make sure you leave a 5mm hole in it stop a error on the dash.. To text if it is the egr.i have in the past disconnect the egr electrical cable and drove short distance to see if it really is the egr. Car drove alot better faster taking off so in that cleaned egr. Job done
Hope it will fix my problem igot P0400 code on my car Saab 9-3 , 1.9TD -2006. I think its same motor? all say its the EGR.
Yeah that is the same engine as far as I'm aware. Hopefully a thorough clean should do the trick. If the problem persists after cleaning EGR and clearing the fault try replacing the component entirely. Good luck.
Fredrik Ek Yes, its the same engine. Its a 1.9 fiat common rail multijat 16v, the same that is installed on my alfa 147 jtdm 150cv...
Redline Revs what exactly does the egr do? please explain simply, thanks
***** Hi Megan, EGR stands for 'Exhaust Gas Re-circulation' and it feeds the exhaust gasses back into the engine to lower the combustion temperature and reduce some harmful emissions. It can get very clogged up and affect the running of the car, requires regular cleaning. Some people remove the EGR completely.
thanks
Lose g?
Ah, make sure not to lose gaskets, thanks for pointing that out.
