    What she said:
-Puffiness is caused by pollen/allergies, consuming to much salt, fragrant eye creams, not enough sleep, a medical condition, or sleeping on your side or stomach
-Puffiness can be prevented by avoiding the issues listed above, sleeping on your back, or using a cool compresses like a wet towel or cucumber slices
-Don’t depend on facial massages to drain the lymphatic system because it will drain on its own, caffeine creams are unlikely to help but there is a chance they will, when you use eye creams the blood vessels may dilate and cause worse bags
-If the bags are persistent and none of the suggested methods work then visit a doctor or dermatologist

This may not be a topic that is needed by most but of anyone on RUclips I think you would be most likely to have suggestions, tips and product ideas for this 50+ CPAP user with dry skin.

I used to sleep on my side. Then transitioned to using a save my face side pillow for a couple of years. It helped a little and finally I just taught my self to sleep on my back. For me it took a couple of weeks of crappy sleep then after sticking through it I slept solid on my back one night and then now usually most nights. I notice a huge difference! I wish I would of trained myself sooner. Plus supposedly kt makes a big difference in preventing wrinkles. I wake up refreshed instead of swollen and puffy. Actually that was how I’d know if I accidentally rolled over. If my eyes were puffy it meant I didn’t stay on my back 100 percent of the time. When I started to train myself I used a soft pillow and slept at an angle like in between sleeping on your back and side. And then eventually went to full back. I think like anything our body will get used to the new position. I sleep comfortably on my back now. When I am sick and congested I let myself sleep on my side and I will usually roll over to my back in the middle of the night because it feels better for my back. And that was another big reason for me learning to sleep on my back was to improve my posture and open up my rounded shoulders. But i still have poor posture during the long work day :(. However, swollen eyes no more!

I'm really glad you speak to the effects of putting creams and other product around the eyes that were not developed and tested for use near the eyes. There are a lot of videos out there testing the use of a Nivea cream intended for cellulite on legs and body on the undereye area to make bags disappear. I tried this out to see if it would help. It was SO heavily fragranced that I could barely stand it, but even worse, it caused a lot of irritation and twitching there and made me nervous that I could be harming my eyes and potentially my vision. Never experienced anything like it before. It's really important to stay away from stuff that hasn't been proven safe for use near the eyes.

Hi Dr. Dray! I don't know if I have missed it in one of your videos but I have been wondering about how to apply my moisturizer and sunscreen under my eyes the right way. I heard from other videos that it should be applied only around the socket bone area and not near the eye opening itself because the cream will travel in the eye if we apply close to the eye opening and can cause dry eye symptoms. Is this information correct and reliable? How about the application of suncreen around the eye area?

I just discovered your channel and I’m so so happy I did. Thank you for sharing all you information. I’m blown away that you mentioned that puffy eyes could be the result of a thyroid issue because that’s exactly why I had them. My ophthalmologist couldn’t figure it out then finally a specialist sent me for blood work and sure enough it was hyperthyroidism. Where were you when I needed you lol. Love your channel, keep doing what you do.

I am loving you and your videos soo much!! I’ve had eye bags since I was 18!! They are really bad and hereditary. I’m also very fair so you can see all the pink veins and what not around my eyes. I’m 30 now and I am considering surgery. When I mentioned my under eyes to the dermatologist he recommended a cream called teamine. Any thoughts on that cream?

Good morning, once again great information. Just the other day I told my friend you don't recommend using all the expensive eye cream. I saved her over 100.00 that she was going to spend that day on a fancy eye cream. She was so excited I saved her that money. Have a good weekend with your Mom. Blessings to you from Spring.

Great video, I have always bought special products for under eye area. But the secret it’s moisturize, sun screen, good sleep and good alimentation. My last purchases was a Hada Labo eye cream , which I guess is the same that the face cream, but satisfied my marketing need. No more eye creams ! Thanks Andrea.

Eye bags have been a huge problem for me. Since I stopped using creams except for the CeraVe in the tub (for my face) along with the CeraVe spf 50, I was noticing that my eye bags were diminishing. When I watched your video it made sense to me that the reason was that I had stopped putting iritants on my face, especially under my eyes. I only use the CeraVe (2 products) on my face. Much cheaper and no problems. Perhaps the eye bags will totally disapear in another 6 months. They WERE very distressing because I feel they can really age my appearance. Thanks for all your dedication and help!

I have had deep circles my whole life which turned into puffy bags after the age of 35. I recently had Restyline silk injected in the troughs where the puffs were and it is life-changing!!! Such a small procedure has made a huge difference in my confidence!! As well as using less correcting concealer, powder, etc! I wish I could post pics-such a huge difference!!
Thank you Dr. Dray for your support with this issue!!

I have dark circles (upper & lower) very dark. I do h have deep set eyes. I'm wondering if the dark circles eye concealer makeup could be the problem. I think it's Neutrogena superstay better skin concealer. I do understand that covering up dark shadows could be the problem. I also have bags, of course. What concealer would you recommend?

I've noticed since starting CPAP treatment, I wake up with significant bags under my eyes-- arguably, much worse than when I was severely sleep-deprived from untreated OSA. Is there any literature that suggests any correlation/causation of CPAP treatment and under eye bags? Also, I just discovered your channel and wow, what a treasure trove of information! Thank you for your generosity.

Thanks for the great video Dr. Dray! The Murad sunscreen that you recommended in the description section below has retinyl palmitate in it. Is it safe for sensitive skin that can’t tolerate any vitamin A derivatives at all? And is it okay to use that ingredient on the face during daytime? Thanks.

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  6 лет назад

yes that is good in sunscreens as it actually functions in sunscreens to help stabilize the filters and slow their degradation

Omg, interesting you mentioned that comment about Houston. A couple years after moving to Houston, I noticed I had eye bags & I was only 22 at the time. I’m so glad you pointed that out. I went to an allergist and she told me that I had allergic rhinitis and Shiners underneath my eyes. She recommended Flonase to maintain my allergies & said my eye bags could likely subside too.

I have such sensitive eyes! I can’t wear eye make up, even if it’s simple fragrance free stuff I still have to run to get it off and my eyes can’t handle it!!! I’ve been using La Roche Posay Toleriane range in general lately and just ordered the CeraVe eye cream from Boots 🤞🏼 The ingredients are very simple and it’s quite cheap, so I’m hoping it will help even more. I also find sunscreens tend to sting my eyes and cause dryness. But yeah. REALLY dry and sensitive eyes right now. Winter in the UK!

my eyes. I got treated and it went away, but ever since then my eyes look different-they’re kinda droopy looking with dark circles. It’s a bummer because I have taken really good care of my face so far and was doing pretty good until that episode.

Hi, I have a question regarding salt intake. I've read that putting some Himalayan pink sea salt into some water helps with magnesium absorption and also helps with hydration as its a form of an electrolyte (I could be wrong as to that being the proper medical way to describe it. But basically keeps the body hydrated better than plain water). This seems counter to having too much salt and thus puffy eyes. Do you have any thoughts on this? Thanks so much.

Using plain old vaseline around eyes to gently remove makeup and as moisturizer stopped swelling under eyes.( It was good enough for Marilyn Monroe.) Anything else brings swelling back.

Any tips with how to teach ourselves to sleep on our backs? I have found it difficult to learn, I do hear it takes time though, however, always interested in hearing how others have mastered it. And thank you for saying dermies find joy in our skin and facial issues/insecurities and not to be ashamed-- that is very comforting to hear!!

When I made the switch after a surgical procedure, I put a pillow under my knees and sandwiched myself in with pillows or folded blankets to keep from rolling. A pillow with good neck support may also help keep you comfortable. Good luck!

It is fragrance free, non-comedogenic, oil-free, won the Allure Best of Beauty Award, and and has an SPF of 30. It’s also free of parabens, sulfates, and phthalates and i believe it’s $30 on the Sephora website. Please do a review!

Hi Dr Dray, I've had puffy under eyes/top of cheeks for a while now and it's so difficult to get rid of. I've had a few sinus problems - when the heating is put on j know immediately because my nose blocks up straight away. I am a laser therapist and I've been using a 1064 fractionated clearlift laser (non ablative) to help with collagen production. Do you think this will help? I'm also an avid user of vit a/ retinol. Any help you can give me would be much appreciated as I've been considering having them surgically removed. Thank you
