Hi guys. I have been making films in Hollywood for over 42 years now and have worked on many films as a producer, director, writer, cinematographer, editor and sound designer. This video opened a door for me that I have not come across since my first class in cinematography in 1981. Thank you so very much! I am going to get into this new technology and see what I can do. I am about to make a sci-fi pilot set almost entirely in a multiple spaceship environment and can't wait to look into all this! Thanks again, and I look forward to more videos!

The way I see it, is that, we've come full circle. We started with background projection in the sets/studio, then went outdoors to capture the authenticity, came back in with blue/green screens, now we're back to background projection, albeit parallax correcting and articulating in real time. 👌

I’m a newbie with 3d animation I’ve been on and off with blender for years. Only just two weeks ago I got the general hang of it through some helpful tutorials. Even after all of the projects I made it’s such a process to do anything in blender. Even the tiniest thing takes so many steps. Finding unreal was a game changer. I definitely didn’t feel overwhelmed. In fact I felt so inspired to do so many things because it was easy to grasp. The assets library is amazing and quixel isn’t the only one. If you look there’s multiple places you can pull assets from. The possibilities are endless. As a newbie 3d artist/filmmaker (and I’m sure professionals can agree) if it makes my life easier why not? Blender is pretty cool but is very complex imo. This video inspired me to go and make something. Idk what I just want to dive into my own worlds!

I like that you are a likeable person. You have a good aura and because of this I am a new subscriber. I am working on a puppet music video and a young lady suggested I use Unreal Engine to help make it a more finished product quicker than just using a camera.
So far it's been 3 years that I have been working on this video, with a stage, spots and closeup lighting, props, puppets incredible how much is needed to make it work for just a 5 minute video but if I do it right I may have tens of thousands of views within the first few weeks. Not sure how I can use it but you convinced me I don't have to have any experience in 3d modeling and showed how easy it is to manipulate items. I am going to download the free software and try it.
I am retired now but in the 80's and 90's I worked in Hollywood as a propmaker and anything else in the entertainment field so I know how much work is put into these projects.
I also agree with you that it is better to familiarize myself with these apps before they become the go to thing in movie production. In the 80's many people laughed when I said soon computers would be so small they would be portable and now look at our society where kids now use laptops to do their homework.
Hoping to learn with you as you progress in Unreal Engine and thanks for sharing...

One of the greatest things about Epic Games is that solutions they develop for their big clients like automotive makers and so on - influence what engine have now - they add for free many things from enterprise high quality CGi sector which really make a difference and I hope they will continue do this. I also really love their sequencer. It is for me much more intuitive and fast then same thing in 3dsmax.

Inspiring and motivating content! This kind of technology could let to story tellers more freedom to tell their stories, without breaking the bank account. I guess, filmmakers will must update their tool set, but also change that for the pre-production you will must to create a library of 3D assets to build your world. Quixel is a GREAT gift, but some stories with precise historic building or places should be created before. I suspect photogrammetry could help in create 3D artifacts from real places.

Epic Games is "free" until you start to make 1+ million dollars off your project or game made with unreal, than they take a cut of sales. So their business model is actually sustainable, and for every 1000 hobbyists that learn unreal for fun, they might turn one or two into passionate people that end up making profitable projects and epic ends up getting paid. Much different situation and business model

    • @RamblingsWithDan
      @RamblingsWithDan 3 года назад +5

As more film productions use Unreal engine, Epic will certainly start charging for it. It will probably follow a similar model as their game development revenue stream where small film makers will get to use it for free and bigger ones will pay some sort of royalty-based fee. Shareholders are always looking for multiple revenue streams in a business and this will be no different.

Thank you, great video, I would love to see some really basic starting stuff for someone with no art experience. I've worked retail, construction and food industry my whole life and due to health issues had to make a change, so starting a new career path from scratch at almost 50 yrs old. I'm now in film school at a community college, but the pandemic has changed my abilities to shoot actual footage and collaborate in person being high risk family, so I was trying to figure out how to do animation with zero artistic ability, I can barely draw a stick figure. I have no artistic talent and was thinking I would have to give up filmmaking idea until I started watching people's unreal RUclips videos. You give me hope as I thought with no 3d, art or animation experience Unreal would be a lost cause, just downloaded it and will start to see if I can make something basic. Your Gemini trailer is off the charts awesome, just enough to get really interested but not too much, love it. and thank you for your inspiration and work.

Hugely interesting video, thanks for this!
Fantastic use of modern game/gfx engine technology with film making - it'll be particularly interesting to see the big advances in UE5 being used here. In constructing environments, AAA game studios using engines such as this employ professional digital gfx artists, for obvious reasons. My advice to film units is to please make sure those building your scenes in UE are expert level users and artists - it would be a crying shame for consumers to be bombarded with a poorly realised experience (don't want to go down the route pop music has been treading for the last 20 years, with tech advances there leading to a mountain of low quality crap).

I am not a Film maker, but I am working on a large scale game. SO, (cut scenes) One of the differences is I am making like the whole level and using it for both game play, and filming.
Also I have 3D modeled for about 15 years now in Blender, Z Brush, 3D Coat, CC3, and iClone. Anyways I am learning Davinci, and I am studying UE5 on 4 separate courses.
Yea UE, and especially UE5 is the forefront on this level of making it accessible to everyone. LOL by the time I finish my game, no one will be impressed because everyone will be able to make it.

I was wondering if anyone knows how to get an areal shot of a large environment without it seeming like it's designated to a square plot. I don't know how else to describe it other than maybe a drone cruising over the top of a forest or a camera looking down from a mountain and seeing the vastness ahead. I've looked for a lot of tutorials but can't seem to find the one I need. Does anyone have links or advice they can shoot me, so that I can move forward? cuz at this point, I'm feeling like the only way to do is to scale everything down to maximize my visual...any and all help would be appreciated, thank you!

Is there a way to make this Mandalorian camera tracking at home? Let´s say... using a big flat screen?

Yes there are definitely ways to do this, however it requires some hardware. You can use VR technology, but it will definitely cost you some money if you don't have the gear already. I'm working on a video now on how to use an iPhone to track your 3d camera, but I don't have a solution for live virtual production (using a screen or LED volume) using an iphone yet unfortunately. Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more info, I have a lot coming for you guys!
