Wonderful video a great help been trying to use chopsticks since 1972 yes that long ago on my first visit to Hong Kong managed to use them but not very well , did not hold them correctly thank you so much for teaching me the correct way its so easy just need lots of practice I'm 77 years old now. once again thank you so much.
Chopsticks are ideal to eat mostly Asian foods, that were created culturally and socially differently from western cuisine, and often with chopsticks in mind. A lot of Asian foods are made bite-size, to be eaten with one go, and often too delicate to be stabbed with a fork. For instance, sushi would fall apart or break in half with pierced with a fork, but shaped to be picked with chopsticks. Another example, dumplings are known to have not only filling, but incredibly flavorful juice inside a soft dough, and all the juice would spill with the dumpling is stabbed with a fork. A lot of Asian meals are also made for sharing, like Vietnamese meals with shared dishes in the middle of the family table. With chopsticks, you can take only the food you're going to eat, without touching other foods, which is more hygienic, and more difficult with a fork. The meats in Asian cuisine are often cut while cooking to be served bite-size as well, you can see that in Thai, Malaysian and Chinese dishes. There aren't steaks like in western cuisine, so no need for knives at the table, only in the kitchen.
Very good description of the technique. Thank you. Don't know if you can edit the chapter headings but at about 3.30 Chapter 3 Combining is misspelled.
OMG! Thank you so much for the heads up, I hadn't noticed! It's basically suggesting we're going to comb the chopsticks hair 🤣Unfortunately, we can't swap frames, only delete entire portions.
😄 that’s true, that can happen! Often for cooking, I use longer chopsticks, they’re twice as long and thicker, so your hand can stay far from the heat and spills. If you search online for cooking chopsticks or aguebashi or extra long chopsticks and you’ll find them, they’re a good buy!
An excellent tutorial, I have to say. I've used chopsticks comfortably for 40 years, and in my view it's the only civilised way to pick up food. Using a knife and fork is so crude.
@@ERICASHANNON I don't think so, I use forks, knives, spoons, chopsticks, toothpicks, bowls, and my hands to eat! 😅The only thing I can't use (for eating, at least) are my feet!

No. It's like the village idiots or hillbillies telling me learn how we work 😅. This is one of the most idiotic way to eat to be honest. I prefer hands or spoon 🥄🖐.
Nobody is forcing you to stop using spoons, you wouldn't eat soup with chopsticks... You don't have to choose between one or the other. This is just a tutorial to learn to eat with chopsticks, which is ideal utensil for certain types of foods, that were invented with the use of chopsticks in mind, mainly asian foods.
(I'd like to watch you eating sushi with a spoon or your fingers. In a fancy restaurant. In Tokyo. Before the Japanese businessmen from which you want something.)
I agree that using sticks to eat with when there are things called FORKS that have been invented, is completely idiotic. The ONLY time I can see where using chopsticks might be better is for eating sushi.

Nicely done by why didn’t you also point out it is a good idea to not stick chopsticks into food sticking up. 😂. ((Yeah don’t do that y’all))
LOL 😅 I didn't think of it, cause the video was more about technique, training hand muscles and brain, but it's definitely an excellent idea!!! 😅 ☠🙈
Why?

@Somebody_Asked it's only a tiny thing. We all make typos. Don't sweat it... 😊

People who use forks and knifes are uncivilized?

Well I'm born with 5 state of the art chopsticks 🖐 which got 3 joints and bends to my will & I know how to use them. So I don't need 2 wooden ones 😜
