Another great video! I love keeping up with the Frontenac outfitters and the local area. You are so informative and being a local myself these videos help a lot with my fishing success. Thanks! #PFD
Heh Ben , great informative vid . You know it’s difficult to keep up with ever changing gear and technology. My kayak is an absolute yard sale of fishing essentials, and absolutely chaos when l haul in the monsters . Just yesterday l ended up with a treble in the back of my ankle, the other treble in the mouth of a pissed off largie . I need to simplify, organize, and increase my safety on the water. This vest looks comfortable, not too bulky, has lots of options…. Great choice for a vid ! Thanks Ben
Glad you found it helpful! That sounds like a super rough day on the boat! The best definitely helps keep things a little more organized. Thanks for watching!
Thanks a bunch! I personally find the high backs most comfortable, on kayaks like yours with the high back seats. It's a great quality PFD - mine is still holding strong after 3 years of frequent use, and is very comfortable.
Looks cool! It seems like pretty intense life vest. It’s important to note that the Chinook is technically a PFD, and not a Life Preserver - meaning it’s not designed to turn you over and keep your head out of the water if you’re knocked unconscious.
@@Paddleheads I don't plan on being unconscious but that's the thing right? Prepare for the possible. I'm modifying a molle belt/yoke as we speak for use in a kayak so I'll have capacity for extra foam front, side or back. Thank you for the guidance marra.🙂🤘
Well with the PFD's, there are only two different sizes for NRS. XS-M and L-XXL and the only difference between them is the length of straps. I'd certainly recommend the L-XXL, so you know it will fit over everything. Important to wear the PFD overtop the coat and keep in mind, the coat will affect the buoyancy slightly, especially if you're in the water for an extended period of time.
One thing I have noticed with all these PFDs is that people are mainly getting them for storage rather than the main reason why getting a lifejacket. Does it float? probably does, however, what if I am unconcious and hit the water face down, will it turn me around face up? That's an awesome video, but also lets try to include a review of it's floating capabilities and if it will actually save your life.
That would make a great video, agreed, but that wasn’t the purpose of this video. This was simply to offer inspiration to others trying to consider what to carry in their life jackets. It will float but it won’t turn you over, which is the difference between a proper life jacket and a PFD. PFD’s aren’t expected to roll you over, they’re simply a personal flotation device. PFDs are not life jackets. Thanks for asking though. We will certainly consider providing that information through a future video.
I got the XS/M and it fits me perfect - even with layers underneath. To get an idea of my size; some large shirts are a little tight on me, but most extra large shirts are baggy.
@@Paddleheads thanks so much. I just ordered a XS/M for $89.99 on close out sale since the new 2024 model is out and just felt weird getting the XS/M as I too usually wear a large shirt.
The knife is clutch I need one now seeing this 😩 And I'm ordering the fire plugs 👍 I thought I liked my outbound but this NRS Chinook looks unreal #pfd
Great suggestion. I’ll certainly consider that. My plan is to avoid class 4 - way above my skill level and ambitions. But, seems like a very logical suggestion! Thanks!
I dig that charcoal look! Easy to match black with black - looks so good too. Thanks for entering! We’ll be announcing winners by the end of this week!

That table feature is genius! Thanks Ben.

Great video . Bought a new NRS pike fishing last fall but have yet to buy a correct PFD for the boat. This looks like what I may need Thanks

Nice set up Ben, I like those fold down pockets.
They are so handy for things like snacks, snacks, and perfect for snacks! 😁 Thanks Jay! 🤘
Awesome video Ben! Really like those fold down pockets too. Definitely need to check the Chinook out. #pfd
Thanks Ken! They’re pretty sweet! Thanks for entering! We’ll be announcing winners by the end of this week!
I've been wanting a #PFD like this for a while now. I love the plier storage!
Good luck! Thanks for entering! We’ll be announcing winners by the end of this week!
It's a floaty Ops vest.
😂
I'm looking at getting an inflatable and this looks like a great lifevest choice.🤘
😆 It feels a little like battle armour. Thanks for watching!
@Paddleheads It's one of these or a mk31 Raf issue one with mesh sleeves that I like the look of.

what size do yo recommend for 5.7 180lb for winter fishing with a heavy jacket?

@@Paddleheads thanks dude . Makes sense.
PFD=Prevent From Drowning..ive been yak fishing for 15 years...ive always worn one
Hahaha great alternative for the acronym. I never go out without mine either!
good review, I found the same thing with the pliers pocket only complaint otherwise its a great pdf
Totally agreed. Thanks for watching!

@@Paddleheads thank you so much for the clarification
No problem! Happy to clear that up for you :)
Hi what size Chinook did you buy? The XS/M. Or the next size up?

@BenTheFox150 that’s a wicked great deal! I think you’re going to be happy with that one. Glad I could help!

I feel the same! It's no surprise that it's the top-selling fishing PFD in the world!

Your whistle should be off the shoulder strap. If you have ever flipped a kayak in a class 4 rapid your find out why.

What brand light do you have in your vest
It's called a Guardian LED by Salus. I'll add a link to it in the description.
Would not be mad at that, thanks for the chance. #pfd

Damn, just read it’s Canada and US only. Anyway still.
Great video and whoever wins will be one happy paddlehead.
