@@y.a100 It was a consulate building and 16 people are dead including staff with diplomatic credentials. The two reasons the UNSC has not condemned the strike are the UK and the US. Israel is lucky that Iran chose a measured response to what they did. 4:15 as a non-smoker i find it ridiculous. Fine destroy your liver, gi tract, pancreas, etc with alcohol. Sure potentially increase your probability of developing dementia and psicosys with weed (i do both). But let's draw the line at smoking. I'm sure people won't do just like they do with other substances and just buy it illegally from unreliable sources.
It's a law that sounds good in principle but that is completely stupid if you think about it. Everywhere (but the US where they did it wrong) the decriminalization of drugs has worked to bring consumption and death rates down, the US showed us why we shouldn't do it with alcohol. So why tobacco? The real tool is education. But of course that's the last thing they want to invest in, lest us vote for actually competent politicians or hell actually start governing ourselves instead of a group of few people with good connections.
The TLDR is every substance can be harmful when abused. If you were to smoke responsibly (which for obvious reasons is very hard) you could say it is a nootropic, or use it for stress relief (something it's a bit too effective at even...) so i don't see any reason to ban tobacco over weed, or alcohol. If it isn't a hard drug it's probably better to keep it in the market and at least get some tax money from them. Tobacco is so easy to contraband too...
Smoking bill will just create a tobacco black market and increase crime, as well as making cigarettes more dangerous and less regulated. Which is what happened in New Zealand.
Just like prohibiton in the 1920s america

Escalation issues. Making foes on every side while actively involved in a separate dicey conflict with waning international support isn’t wise. Challenge settled for us both.’

Israel destroyed an embassy killing high ranking Iranian officials. Iran responded with a drone strike that did nothing. Israel wants to respond to the response and then Iran will need to respond to the response... and that's how you get a War.
And the sanctions for Israel?
I don't get the West's response to the Israel-Iran situation.
Israel has attacked an Iranian consulate, which - as Iran correctly said - is legally an attack on Iranian soil. If some nation or group attacked a US embassy, or merely US military personnel, or even just international shipping routes (cough cough, Houthi's, cough cough), our official reaction would range somewhere in between being outraged at the audacity and solemnly vowing revenge. Yet Israel has been pulling off crap like that against Iran for years or decades now.
Maybe we should re-thing who to threaten to sanction here.
You do realize the the building attack was of the IRGC which is not only a designated terrorist organization by multiple countries worldwide including the US and all those died were a legitimate military target and heavily involved with the IRGC and Iran's Proxies which started the war on October 7th six months ago, Iran (the government not its people) has been running a shadow war against Israel for many years this is the first time Iran attacked Israel, and with the amount of drones and missiles it sent (6 tons) it wasn't targeting just military targets in fact Israeli iron dome missiles intercepted missiles above the third most important place in Islam proving two things, 1 Iran did not target specific military and government buildings and 2 Israel upheld its responsibility to it's many Muslim citizens.
The same Iran which stormed the US embassy in Tehran and held the diplomats hostage for over a year before being forced to hand them back under the threat of invasion? Iran doesn't give a fuck about the sanctity of embassies, they only care that other countries care about the sanctity of embassies, and attempt to exploit that.
@@itayarvatz7559 Yes, I know that Iran has had their proxies (with revolutionary guard support) wage a constant series of terrorizing strikes against Israel. They have been "poking" each other like that for years if not decades: Iran paying for the rockets that Israel gets hit with and Israel assassinating IRGC leaders on actual Iranian soil (or in third countries). I kind of get the recent actions from both involved parties. (Including why Iran has sent the amount of ordnance they did; you really have to send more than a handful of rockets in order to create a realistic fear that some of it might have gone through the Iron Dome.)
(Also just to be clear "I understand" doesn't mean that I don't see that the attack is mainly happening because Iran wants to accelerate their attacks in order to capitalize on the fact that Israel is busy fighting Hamas's armed wing.)
What I don't get is why we didn't bat an eye about them attacking each other, but why it's suddenly worth sanctioning Iran just because the rockets didn't go through the hands of a middle man this time.
And also why we still think that we are the objective arbiters of justice and morality when our reaction to 7 US soldiers dying to a drone strike in a base in Syria is "oh no how tragic", while our reaction to Israel rocketing or shooting an IRGC official is "cool, we got another one of them". Our reaction here is as usual heavily determined by whose side we are on more than by which actions are admissible under international law.
...Guess I've been a bit guilty of that in my above post as well.
@@itayarvatz7559 Yeah, that can be seen how Israel cares about other religions. Many muslims are tied and beaten for praying in Al Aqsa mosque every year during Ramadan and this ongoing genocide in Gaza also clearly shows it. But it's not about religion here, it's about humanity. How many children are being killed by Israel every day and still the western govts have not put any sanction on Israel and when Iran struck back after the annihilation of their embassy, the US is thinking of putting sanction on Iran. How ironic! Sanctions should be put on both countries for their committed crimes and international laws should not be played with according to national interests of these govts.
