Marco.
I just re-listened to this song after thinking about being “prudent” in my actions and choices. In reflecting on that I looked up the definition on this tool, and thought of this song. It’s clear they are talking about a girl, but today I replaced the image of a girl with the concept of prudence, and could see the power in that orientation. Being prudent, allowing “her” to come out and play, seeing her smile, opening up her eyes - all metaphors for being responsive and not reactive. Acting from my ambition, centered; not my psychology and wants. Thanks for your comment Bob, the album does that for me also 61! LT

Another one of so many masterpieces John created. Enjoyed listening to Beatles in my teens. At 68, appreciate them more as I can hear and see their genius in everything came into their way and they turned them into a perfect ethereal creation for eon.

I can perfectly see why but 'A Day in the Live' is always penciled in as my personal favourite, with 'Here comes the sun' at number two, and 'Penny Lane', 'Eleanor Rigby', 'Hey, Jude' and 'Back in the USSR' as 'honorable mentions'! It always amazes me that they wrote apart but really never produced anything quite as good when apart. Collaborative advice and influence is much misunderstood and undervalued. Most great things turn out to be team efforts, obviously with a dominant inspiration and voice, or voices. Thankfully, producers, engineers and session players are now increasingly, quite rightly, getting their dues. Oh, why choose, just enjoy!
The “White Album” is not only the Beatles best album, but one of the best in all of Rock music. Show me another album as diverse as this...Helter Skelter and Martha My Dear? What about Glass Onion and Julia? I am So Tired and Black Bird? Wow! The Beatles were at their creative peak during this period. Nothing is as diverse as this album.
Me quedé sorprendido.
It's been long established that it was Ringo finishing the track (by overdubbing Paul) after his comeback. You can hear his very distinctive signature beat (especially the falling-down-the-stairs, swampy rolls) as the song develops. Paul did a good job too, but Ringo transported Dear Prudence to his godly level. 😉 As for documentation, William J. Dowlding's Beatlesongs (1995) says Ringo played drums albeit not on the entire track. J. P. Russell's The Beatles On Record (1982) also says Ringo played on Dear Prudence. About Ringo's absence, The Compleat Beatles (1981) says it lasted one week, starting on August 22. Since the Dear Prudence recordings took place on August 28 (at Trident Studios), and again on the 29 and 30, that adds to the idea that Ringo, whilst not playing on the whole track, did in fact overdub the trickier part for consistency and cohesion upon his return. Some sources say Ringo also contributed with backing vocals, and that Mal Evans, Jackie Lomax and a certain John (some say McCartney's cousin, whilst others that he was his nephew) are also on the track. For a technical explanation based on the recording itself and drumming styles: ruclips.net/video/Ms3p5gdi-XY/видео.html

Hi Katie, much more at play here. the Beatles were in India along with friends, one being actress Mia Farrow and her sister who was not in the best of spirits so after a while John wrote her a song, then sang it to her. She recovered straight away. What a beautiful person John was. The song? "Dear Prudence". PS, Hello from Australia.
Actually they wrote the song when they were at the ashram in India in 1968. Mia Farrow & her sister, Prudence were there at the same time as The Beatles & they were staying in the same bungalow as Prudence. They were concerned about her because she hardly ever came out of her room because she was meditating as she wanted to be the first one among them to “reach god” & John & Paul were concerned about her, so they wrote & sang her “Dear Prudence” through the door to her room in the bungalow. They wrote some of their most famous songs while they were at the ashram. They supposedly wrote 48 of them.
That version is just DISGUSTING PLASTIC CRAP and has nothing to do with the real atmosphere of the song! It deserves to be dumped in the garbage of musical history
I followed your recommendation and listened to that version : WHAT A SLAP IN THE FACE OF THIS MASTERPIECE of John / The Beatles! !!! It's just polyester sound in rigid tempo with not a hint of feeling for the atmosphere DISGUSTING CRAP !!!!! But sorry : For it brought you to the real thing, we can feel blessed
Sorry to be an old fart, but the sixties were the best era for popular music. Every year was a new Beatles album, every second or third day, you’d hear- on mono AM- a drive-off-the-road single: respect, I feel free, hey Joe, not fade away, reach out, sock it to me, MacArthur Park, dancing in the streets, you really got me...I notice the YT comments from teens and twentysomethings feeling a nostalgia for something they never had. Very few drugs for most- it was the best of times and the best of times. All around me I see a destroyed scene- streaming- depriving artists of their golden eggs, auto tune, neo bubble gum, and the great destroyer of black culture, hip hop. May golden days come again.

As for documentation, William J.
The most beautiful perfect song!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
My friend's mother told us today that this was his favorite song. He had great taste.
Always forget the rocking ending. Think others do too, that may be why this song is truly Underrated
the ending reminds me of ten years gone by zeppelin. rippin lead harmony guitars on both
Lovely sound! A big inspiration for many bands: the rythm, the bass play, the arpege of guitar
Otra your mom
Genial Perro!!! Si no existieran A day in the life y oh Darling, ésta sería mi favorita de los genios de Liverpool. Gracias..
True!
This song still places me in the most beautiful place imaginable. Mr. Lennon knew what he was doing.
Regards El Perro!! Thank you for this song from the
White Album and please keep up your good work! Take care el perro. 🙋👌✌👍
Take care you too
Thanks for all the warmful comments
I always thought the part in Foo Fighters' Everlong that goes:
'And I wonder
When I sing along with you.'
Really sounds like Dear Prudence.
Me encanta Dear Prudente, hermosa melodía y letra.

Thank you. The lyric is "The sun is up".
Very inspiring song about going outside to play.
PS,
Hello from Australia.
“you are part of everything, wont you come out to play”
Actually they wrote the song when they were at the ashram in India in 1968. Mia Farrow & her sister, Prudence were there at the same time as The Beatles & they were staying in the same bungalow as Prudence. They were concerned about her because she hardly ever came out of her room because she was meditating as she wanted to be the first one among them to “reach god” & John & Paul were concerned about her, so they wrote & sang her “Dear Prudence” through the door to her room in the bungalow. They wrote some of their most famous songs while they were at the ashram. They supposedly wrote 48 of them.
@@kathleenmartin8304 are you talking about that whole album?? Or
Can you share the songs they wrote there??
Loooove the bass line 💕
The magic of the Beatles.
Really love Siouxsie and the Banshees version. It's superb!
Me too
That version is just
DISGUSTING PLASTIC CRAP
and has nothing to do with the real atmosphere of the song!
It deserves to be dumped in the garbage of musical history
Didn't they do it live?

Childlike hope, joy and wonder.🙏💞
I love it so much ❤
One of Lennon’s best - blows away Imagine
This song hits hard for me because my dogs name is prudence. She was given to me with that name. It describes her perfectly.
Amazing music to listen to, brings back the good old times🥰🥰
Fantastic songs ...
Strange I came to know this song thanks to Siouxsie and the Banshees. Both versions are great!
I followed your recommendation and listened to that version :
WHAT A SLAP IN THE FACE OF THIS MASTERPIECE
of John / The Beatles! !!!
It's just polyester sound in rigid tempo with not a hint of feeling for the atmosphere
DISGUSTING CRAP !!!!!
But sorry :
For it brought you to the real thing, we can feel blessed

Love this song still after all theses years
31 years later , the song " seven seconds" was a big hit all over the world with the same line of bass played by paul in " Dear Prudence " song
I use the Beatles music as a soothing frame of mind
thanks to their trip to India, songs like this with finger picking guitar work happened. how much transcendental meditation happened i don't know.

The sky is blue, its beautiful and so ARE YOU!
so so good, the White Album just gets better and better with time.
Just love this song
Qué hermosa canción, me encanto! :-)
There is somthing to live, special.
A GENIUS JOHN A MASTERPIECE IN THE COMPANY OF HIS THREE FRIENDS OTHER GENIUSES THERE ARE NO MORE THOSE WHO MAKE UP MASTERPIECES LIKE THIS.
