- Chartered Engineer Tony Irwin says Australia has "not changed with it" regarding the global push for low emissions.
Opposition Leader Peter Dutton announced the Coalition’s nuclear policy last week, including the seven proposed sites for the nuclear reactors.
“Nobody’s going to start a new nuclear power program in the 80s, post Chernobyl,” Mr Irwin told Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood.
“But then we get into a new situation, where we get this sort of demand for low emissions.
“The whole scenario is changing, but we’ve not changed with it.”
A good rule of thumb is if Bowen says it is bad it must be good because he doesn’t have a relationship with the truth.
Bowen is living his own cartoon story.
This guy knows what he’s talking about, listen Labour.
What does British Labour have to do with it?
@@DanielsChannel65 It ain't hard is it?
You're seriously asking Narcissists to listen?
Running a protection racket for the Union Super Funds who invest in renewables…… Ear Muffs & Blinkers on…..😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫😖😖😖😖😳
@@DanielsChannel65 my mistake sorry hard labor!
Australians have been lied to by Labour about nuclear energy.
Labor
It's not just Nuclear. Remember the recession we had to have. Needs to be called the BS party.
Yes little Albo is lieing as he lies about everything. .
Because he has no real intelligence answers to any problem, so he makes it up as he goes along thinking we 2 stupid 2 notice. .
Probably spelling correction default settings. Every time I type labor I have to edit after spelling correction changes it to labour. Unless they are originally from overseas as that's how they spell it @TheGrouch2000

Our government is destroying our entire economy because a pouty child sailed a yacht once.

It was before Thunberg, I blame Al Gore! They have swallowed his whole rhetoric.
It was the millenials that swallowed this 🐂💩 hook line and sinker yet the zoomers blame the boomers😂😂😂
The delusional insanity about carbon dioxide emissions and the climate began in the 1980s when B team climate scientists believed that they knew better than Arrhenius.
Arrhenius described the greenhouse effect in the late nineteenth century. He opined that the carbon dioxide emissions from human activity would have the beneficial effects of increasing agricultural yields and postponement of the next glacial maximum. You can add reduced winter heating costs and fewer deaths from hypothermia.
Popular delusions regarding the Earth’s climate and the utility of “renewable energy “ in its current form have been allowed to triumph over critical thinking and common sense.
We should simply use the most economical energy resources available.
We're stuck in a 1970's uni student union moronic mindset thanks to our politicians.
You would prefer to be stuck in the Murdoch controlled, far right extremist media world of Sky News and Fox News presumably? Where the truth doesn't matter and manipulating older Australians to be angry and scared of everything is a good way to get them to vote how you want them to, before they all die.
Their mindset is 1970 but their pay packets are 2024.
So very true.
It is dictatorship, we even getting dictated from universitie students. And dictated from the middle east. Parliaments have destroyed Australia for their own fantasy power, discusting, we Australians will stand.
There is momentum in the Nuclear debate... bring it on!
Spot on. I live in Hong Kong and we have Nuclear on our doorstep, about 30km away. Have been using it for 30 years. No one has any worries about it. I’ve visited it and sailed past it often. It’s just a safe, clean, reliable part of our energy mix. (Da Ya Bay Power Station).
YES, in My Backyard!
Labor always wrong
Well at least you spelt "Labor" right, but from there you didn't put a lot of energy into an actual position.
Labor alway wong
Follow the money…..💵💵💵💵
It's called corruption. Wind and solar are heavily subsidised and guarantee foreign investors huge dividends. Renewables are a win for investors and a burden for households.
The massive misappropriation of taxpayers money and resources into uneconomical and unreliable renewable energy projects temporarily benefits a few green carpet baggers and their stockholders at everyone else’s expense. It is industrial scale economic vandalism.
We need to withdraw from the Paris Accord and use the most economical energy resources available.
For Nuclear power we have to get rid of little boy Albo and STUPID Bowen.

You can expect politicians to not do anything sensible! Hard for engineers to understand politicians.... 😂
hard for frogs to understand pollyticians,, in fact they don't even understand themselves
We are currently burdened with a large cohort of dishonest duplicitous politicians who are colluding with ridiculous and economically and socially destructive popular delusions.
We should withdraw from the Paris Accord and use the most economical energy resources available.
The carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels are largely beneficial. Benefits include greening of the planet with increased agricultural yields (main effect), reduced winter heating costs, fewer deaths from hypothermia and postponement of the next glacial maximum.
Great interview thank you.
We will vote Liberal if Peter produces Nuclear to our Country.
Yeah when? Probably not in our lifetimes
Liberals will bring it in as well. Labor and Liberal = 2 sides of the same coin.
Yes, I agree entirely. It's GOT to be local people or they will be offside from the start, however that is most likely going to be used to make this difficult to get going, it's their divide and conquer practices that has ruined this country's potential.
We SHOULD BE AVery Rich Country. And Aussies are Rich personally. This Gen Cost is Just an OPINION Written for the Government. Its BS.! Don't listen to them.!
Bring it on. Another Labor term will sink this country.
Just something to complain about, go Dutton, most Australians are standing with you, we dont want dictatorship albo ,
Australia needs nuclear power as renewable energy is an expensive basket case
And the UK also.
We need to withdraw from the Paris Accord and use the most economical energy resources available.
@@kenhuntley0707The UK has hardly any Sun. Australia is the sunniest dryest continent on Earth.
Hope all the opposition to nuclear are watch or watch this , cause we need to get all the info from these experts, not from hommer simpson's cartoons . Like Labor government & theur freinds are shovelling.
Tony Irwin speaks the truth - Elmer Fudd would not be able to handle that - it's a word he does not understand.
It's about time we used our own 'Yellow Cake' to produce power for Australians, domestic and more importantly industrial purpose ! A
Even Canada has realized the folly of solar and wind.
Canada gets hardly any Sun 😂
Houses will need to become self sufficent in all areas, saving wires, sub station and transformers. Only heavy power business requiring power at this point. We need to think out side the BOX.
We need to withdraw from economically suffocating international treaties such as the Paris Accord, the Lima Agreement and the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty.
We should continue to build coal fired power plants like the Chinese and Indians for cheap reliable electricity and further develop our nuclear industry for national security. We should build our own nuclear weapons to defend ourselves rather than spending exorbitant amounts of money on a few nuclear submarines.
You can't teach an old Albo new tricks.😂
Australia is already net zero. 24 trees per person per year to offset emissions. That equates 720 million trees. We 24 billion trees in Australia. Why is this not mentioned in media
likely because Au has destroyed 99% of original forests! what we see today are third gen replacements
“More people have fallen off roofs installing solar panels than have died in the entire history of nuclear power”
Labor doesn’t want to admit it as wrong. It’s kindergarten style obstinacy is killing Australia.
Labor is blinkered, and stuck on its downhill path.
aka "bought and paid for"
Surely we could use the exported uranium as an offset to our omissions.
We don't need to; we already ABSORB 6 times more Co2 than we emit. Reference a CSIRO Report from 2014 by Dr. Vanessa Haverd of the CSIRO Atmospheric Research Division.
@@wyattfamily8997 So coal as base only (ban exports) is o.k for us if we absorb 6 times than we emit?
Nuclear seems like a waste of cash.
Wind, solar and Batteries are not renewable or environmentally friendly. Short life using heavy metals and base load power to manufacture .
Makes you wonder why Labor decided to go in such hare-brained direction? Can't have anything to do with money can it?🙄
Hate farmers, hate small business. It all falls into place then.
This is becoming a “no-brained”. The Libs should bring-out that Ontario Premier get him to tell people why they’re going nuclear
How can you double the size and complexity of the grid, with less energy dense technology and say its cheaper.
Water Lots of Water!
Global Co2 emissions are not down. That's the first lie here. The game here is the NIMBY effect. Not In My Back Yard.
All labor wants to do - is make out it is doing something. The global energy market is worth trillions of dollars a year. That's regardless of what - you want to talk about. The global energy market - is coal - gas - oil - nuclear - green energy. Record tons of coal were burnt in South East Asia - last year. Over 4 billion tons of coal. Green energy products can only be made using - hydrocarbons. They would not exist because of hydrocarbons.
Co2 remains at less then half of 1% of the earth's atmosphere. So at 0.20% - plants fail and die. At the moment Co2 is at 0.407% of the earths total atmosphere. Less then half of 1%. Notice no-one on the climate change side - will tell you about this fact.
And all labor is trying to do - is shift Co2 emissions from Australia to Asia. South East Asia - has been tasked by labor to manufacture everything we need. Hence the recent visit by China to Australia. And why labor - wont bring manufacturing back.
This is purely - politics - on crack cocaine. Nothing about Net Zero - works or make sense. It's purely mind games. And when you let politicians - run that side of policy - nothing works or makes sense. And everything is a lie. That's what voters don't want to admit. There is no compelling reason - to do to green energy machines. They cost to much - and are unreliable. They only work - when the sun shines or the wind blows. Even complete - with the lie - from Albo - during the last federal election campaign - the sun shines somewhere in Australia over 24 hours. Tells you he's not the sharpest tack in the cupboard.
This is not about saving the planet. Labor has fallen into the clutches. Of the new kids in town. And fallen for their scam. Buy our overpriced - unreliable products. Yet it all comes back to the same thing. How you produce energy - really comes down - to how smart the politicians are - who get sucked into scams. And they sold him a scam. And Albo wont admit - he got suckered - and he's a rank political - amateur.
And for labor - it's not hard. You just waste your tax payers money - on what labor hands out to buy - to but - these scam products - labor in turn demand "kick backs" as political campaign donations - from the people - they pay extortion rates - for a bunch of poor quality - useless green energy products. That's how this works. Labor are - immoral - corrupt - useless.
$600k per year to lease each wind turbine. Lima declaration signed of by both side is what destroyed manufacture agreement to decimate our own economy so that the developing world could rise signed in 1975 China was considered a developing nation then and had received the trade benefits to grow. It is still considered a developing nation today and its time it was declared a developed nation.
If China is a developing nation they should not be allowed weapons of any kind and their wealth should go directly to help all it's citizens out of poverty.
Personally my view is they are propped up by their unions, and that is by the fees that is a 100% tax deduction, so in a way no one sees it as a taxpayer supported political arm of the bully boys who have served their purpose decades ago, not to mention donations from union run superannuation funds. Just that no one is looking.
A good summary of the situation.
Atmospheric carbon dioxide is currently 0.042% which is suboptimal for plant growth.
Net Zero is economically destructive delusional insanity.‘It is prohibitively costly, impractical and totally unnecessary as the carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels are largely beneficial (increased agricultural yields, reduced winter heating costs, fewer deaths from hypothermia and postponement of the next glacial maximum)
We need to withdraw from the scientifically and operationally fraudulent Paris Accord and use the most economical energy resources available. We should also withdraw from the Lima Agreement and develop our own nuclear power industry for national security.
@@johngeier8692 Absolutely 100% agree. In taking care of environment focus should be on reducing single use plastics rubbish recycling but net zero is insane. Paris accord and Lima declaration UN agenda 30 needs to be Aus exitited. Need a National people's owned bank and low cost funding issue for national infrastructure projects including nuclear
power and building dams.
We don't need to; we already ABSORB 6 times more Co2 than we emit. Reference a CSIRO Report from 2014 by Dr. Vanessa Haverd of the CSIRO Atmospheric Research Division.
My gripe is you burn more coal making windturbines and solar panels than each one can compensate in it's life time.
The only difference that gives us in particular a net zero is that we are not the ones actually burning it.
But are we exporting it? Yes.
So is it getting exported to the international coal museum is it?
Net Zero is big dollars for countries who are profiting from it.
The large scale nuclear plant in the CSIRO GenCost 23-24 report would make money here and be several times cheaper then the Solar/Wind/Storage in the GenCost report. You have to do the design and financial analysis yourself to know that. CSIRO GenCost executive summary was bad. They compare, on the same graph, power when time of day and weather permits to power on demand.
Let's just go back to coal and gas
Its actually the dominant left wing media that stops an intelligent and informed debate and decidion. This interview being one of the rare exceptions.
For sure. Nuclear has the least expense to the environment. A fraction carbon footprint compared to renewables.
The debate ends with land usage.
We staple up a corporate land grab when you have a handful of reactors compared to dozens of land clearing sites in a continent with limited agricultural land mass
with our uranium and Canada's reactor we do not need to refine uranium to plutonium grade, safer. we could burn the plutonium from our submarine reactors at end of life upgrade waste disposal
Nuclear power wont automatically lower electricity prices. If anything they could likely increase. Anything that further centralises the power grid will increase prices over time. Rooftop solar with electricity and hot water along with battery storage can address 90% of domestic power requirements. One is better off going off grid if possible. That then leaves industrial scale solar, wind and hydro and tidal energy, along with gird scale battery storage cover industry needs. These technologies are evolving so rapidly along with rapidly falling costs per kWh generated, that nuclear simply won't be able to keep pace. There's simply zero evidence to support brown outs since grid scale battery storage has been implemented and that is being rapidly increased also. I doubt Aust will have nuclear within the next 20 years. Beyond that time period is a wait and see. Much depends on population growth. Renewables would be in the order of 300 to 400 billion including grid scale battery storage. Possibly on the lower side if prices keep falling.
Hew Manity produces 29gt annually
Na Ture produces 750gt annually
Hew could stop all production TODAY and Na would continue to produce 750gt each and every year - and of the 29 Hew produces? Aye You produces merely 1%

To the Australian fairdinkum people Say s IAM that Iam Amen and amen
Dutton says the lifespan of a nuke is 80-100 years. It’s 40-60 years and probably shorter for SMR.
Nuclear omits 15-50 grams of Co2 / KwH
Okay we need all info to weigh up debate thank you.
There is no hard proof that carbon dioxide emissions from human activity are actually harmful.
Since both the current mean annual surface temperature of Earth and the current atmospheric carbon dioxide level are suboptimal for plant growth, they would be expected to have the beneficial effects of greening of the planet with increased agricultural yields, reduced winter heating costs, fewer deaths from hypothermia and postponement of the next glacial maximum.
What a statement pulled out of your arse.
Nope. New build nuclear reactors in the US are licensed for 80 years straight outa the box. Easily extend to 100. They are designed for this.
Secondly. Nuclear plants do not produce ANY direct carbon emissions.
