    Vital information - and yes you provide info. Because regular folks like us can't get the information or companies are not providing the information due to profits. They want to squash natural ways of doing things because they want to get more people on meds. But thanks to a person like you Tom and providing us with this information we can now make better health choices for our lives. Thanks for all you do

    Great information, thank you! Taking nsaids frequently (ibuprofen, Aleve) damaged my mother's kidneys. She had to go on dialysis and passed away. There needs to be more public awareness about the dangers of over the counter meds. I will never take nsaids even though I have chronic pain. I have only one kidney (it's healthy). My kidney doctor recommended a low protein, low sodium diet.

    I'm 76 years old and have recently had a nephrectomy - removal of left kidney following finding a cancerous tumour. I've had chronic kidnet diease sine April 2023. I don't take any medication. I am on a very strict diet diet and drink between 3 and 4 litres of water every 24 hours. I don't smoke, drink alcahol, eat sweets, cake or sugar products. I am not diabetic but do have an enlarged prodtrate = waiting for over a year to have it removed.
    I have blood tests every 4 weeks and urine tests every 4 months.tests. My ceratine level is low as is my GFR.

    This is difficult to believe, but I took Dr. Berry’s and Dr. Chaffee’s advice to deal with gout - linked to a faulty kidney function, by eating mostly meat on a carnivore diet. After a few months, the gout with the swollen feet, pain and inflammation was gone and I no longer take regular medication for it. I’m no longer on crutches and can walk again! Seems like kidneys hate sugar and even the complex carbohydrates that may cause inflammation in some folks. Wouldn’t be surprised if this helps alleviate CKD as well, but we’re all different and maybe it’s horses for courses! Still, I envy those who can eat freshly baked bread! :(

      At the end I go over that a little bit, while I am personally not a nephrologist, I do frequently see patients with acute kidney injury from infections/medications improve, but chronic kidney disease (stage 3, 4, 5) may be more difficult

    Doesn't potassium reduce high blood pressure? We need so much potassium already, hard to eat enough.

    • @DrTomBiernacki
      @DrTomBiernacki  9 месяцев назад +1

      It does reduce it, in some of the blood pressure studies they found getting adequate amounts can lower blood pressure about 4-5pts on avg, but at the same time if your kidneys are already bad you may not want to overdo it either

    I follow( somewhat) Dr Gabriel Lyon on her YT channel. She has started what she calls Muscle Centric Medicine. I am a meat eater and have been all my life. I have also eaten the junkiest foods, hence CKD. I agree with Dr. L that having muscles in your old age is essential for a healthy old age and animal protein is necessary for that to happen.
    Animal protein and vegetable protein are NOT the same thing and are NOT equal in what they do for your body. Vegetable protein is missing essential amino acids that are found in animal protein. I do NOT intend to be a weak, frail old lady who has to use a walker. At least not until I am at least 100 years old ❗
    If you have CKD, I think the key word is moderation. ( which is true for most things) You don't have to deny yourself everything that you love to eat, just mix it up with some good stuff. Balance it out. Your videos are really very informative.
    One question: No leafy vegetables at all ? Can you recommend something? I want to put it in my Vitamix drink. Thanks Doc. : )

      Chanca piedra (stone breaker) is an herb that dissolves kidney stones and is a general tonic for the kidneys. I also take organic cranberry and monitor intake of high oxalate foods and the balance of sodium and potassium. Frequent or over hydration flushes potassium resulting in further imbalance.

      I disagree; I dare say that a large number of people have significant built up of oxalate crystals; this could be an under lying cause, or adverse effect, leading to the malfunction and diseases of the kidneys. Kidney disease and kidney stones don't live in separate vials, I dare say their relationship is symbiotic. @@DrTomBiernacki
