For me, 1980 was an amazing year for comics. I collected all of the Moon Knight issues, my sister collected the Savage She-Hulk comics. I really enjoyed reading Marvel comics from that period of time, and they inspired me to become an artist and a writer. Thank you for bringing back fond memories of my childhood with your marvelous channel.

Man, that X-Men 139 is still an iconic cover. Kitty Pryde's introduction is still my favorite run of the X-Men, and she's my favorite X-Man as well.
But you said you were 12 in 1980... which means I'm older than you. Oh well. If you'll excuse me, it's time for my nap.

Transformers *mostly* originated from two 70s era Japanese toy lines from Takara: Diaclone and Microman, which made up maybe around 85% of the original toys. Hasbro licensed the toys and released them here as Transformers in 1984. They did well enough that Takara licensed the "transformers" brand backand re-released them in Japan!
And if you don't also know, several non-transforming Microman toys were licensed to Mego in the US and released as Micronauts! So Micronauts and Transformers were part of the same toy line in Japan years before they came to North America!

2:01 I love Man-Thing too! He's such an underrated character with a lot of story potential. He was featured in a good amount of issues last year and I hope that trend continues so we see more of him in the future!
Edit: Shogun Warriors came about a little less than a decade before Transformers, I believe.

Superb top ten picks, Avengers 198 .. what a roster of talent and a fun issue. The Micronauts and Man-Thing, one of my favourite stories too. I hope Shogun Warriors gets collected, with ROM Micronauts and Godzilla, anything seems possible these days.

Shogun Warriors: the original Pacific Rim!
The current Transformers series by DWJ is definitely worth checking out!! No need to know any of the other previous series.

First off nice music picks. Devo Clash Joan Jett 🤘
I have my copy of Micronauts #7 signed by Golden and Neal Adams. Adams helped on the cover.
I was reading more DC comics at this time. So Suoer Friends, Justice League Superman Family, World's Finest Comics, Superboy, Batman and the DC horror comics were more up my alley. But ROM #1 I still own my beat up copy from that time period. Love your picks though and some of them got into my collection a little later on.

In that X-Men comic #139, was that Doctor Octopus's tentacles that had grabbed and caught Storm ? Or were those tentacles part of the X-Men's combat room exercise equipment ? They sure as hell looked very much like Doc Ock's tentacles.
