Kingsley North is a lapidary store in Michigan's U.P. They make a great cab machine and sell many other brands too. They have a huge selection rough rock, tumblers, grit, jewelry supplies etc. at good prices. I buy most of my coarse grit from here in 45 lb. bags. It's the best price I have found. If you buy using the following link, I make a small commission.

We are never sick of banded iron!
Thanks for taking us with you!
You're welcome!
Started picking agates here as a child, over 70 years ago. Mostly they were the size of a dime, rarely larger. Came home with jars full. Most colorful beach in Michigan. Icy deep water. Family favorite for several generations.
Thank you once again for taking me a long your rockhounding adventures . I gotta get back up there again not just for the rocks but for the peace and tranquility.
Both reasons are important.
You need a squirt bottle in a holster to spray dry rocks up the beach from the waterline. 👍😁
Good idea! I like it.
Sometimes I put a little water in the bottom of my bucket that I use. I'm not usually far from the water to just walk over and dip it. I'm also a rock licker.
@@MichiganRocks rock licker 😂😂
Did you say this was filmed on 05.04.2023?
May the 4th be with you😁
@@SisterShirley And also with you.
Hunting for agate on the beach, you find lots of very high quality stones, friends. great find. Greetings from Indonesian agate hunters.
No agates, but great rocks anyhow.
Hi Rob, i saw a beautiful green stone, wow !! a lot of nice stones !! you are lucky
I left a beautiful green stone behind that log.
@@MichiganRocks I know but im very far, lol
I never get tired of seeing geology across the country. I'm in northern New Mexico... Lots of calderas, etc in the high desert mountains.
Maybe I should make a trip there sometime.
I love this beach. I found my first agate at this beach. I’ve also found a lot of fossils and yooperlite here.
I loved it too.
You been having lots of fun lately, what a life that is the way it should be. Beautiful place so sad the agates were not being social. Happy hounding.
No, I still had a really good time there. I was very happy with the rocks that I did find.
We don't want to see agates everywhere . . . where's the accomplishment in that?
It's so pretty up there. Don't know how close you were to Little Girl's Point but Mom and step dad had a farm up there on Brace Road. Love this video.
I was right at Little Girl's Point.
@@MichiganRocks Looks like a lot of erosion since I was up there in 2018. Still lovely country though.
You never disappoint me! I’ve never seen so many beautiful rocks in my life! I bet while you looking four hours can pass by in no time! Great finds!
Yes, time goes very quickly on the beach. I'm always surprised when I look at the clock.
You have an eye for finding cool rocks. It is always a nice adventure when checking out new areas! Thanks for sharing.
That was a nice beach. Lots of pretty rocks. Too bad you didn't find agates. Still a great adventure.
I still had a lot of fun. I didn't leave disappointed.
I love Little Girls Point. People always there looking.
I hear it gets pretty busy. There weren't many people there that day though.
Have fun, Rob! Stay warm!
I wish I could walk behind you n get your rejects!
I did show you where one of my rejects was. Actually, I walked back after filming that and added another.
Enjoy your travels. Love the banded iron.
Banded iron is pretty cool stuff.
Camping is great fun. But as my arthritis progressed, a small camper makes for dry and warm camping experience. A Lithium battery and solar ...and an emergency generator makes for great Camping. We only used our generator 1x when cloudy and rained for days. Once battery was charged turned off. Then going out rockhounding and coming back to a good book and warmth is nice.
I camped for seven or eight nights and it was never too cold. It rained a lot on my trip though.
I ❤ rocks more than diamonds
Me too.
I'm with you. What is interesting about the same old diamond? ROCKS tell stories!
Hi Rob 👋 I hope &pray you find alot of gorgeous ROCKS &STONES BRO👋😃👍 GOOD LUCK ROB 👍😃👋
Thanks, Sharon.
Travel safely and make sure you are warm!
Your rock hunts are absolutely fascinating. I really enjoy looking at the things you pick up. It hurts my heart a little when you leave one behind 😢. Happy hunting!😊
But the next person hunting that beach will feel differently about me leaving a few behind.
@@MichiganRocks I'm sure. We can't bring them all home with us. It's really neat to see them
Its Friday ?
retirees losing track of the days!
No, sometimes I release videos on Tuesdays too. Friday's video was sort of a flop, so I put out a better one today. I tried to get this one out on Friday but I have been camping and didn't have good internet. There was actually WiFi at the campground I was staying at, but the upload speeds were extremely slow. So I went to the library to try and the Internet was just as slow. I was only able to upload about 1% of my video in half an hour.
@@MichiganRocks this time of year you are ahead of bug season
Those rocks look a lot like the ones we have in central Minnesota. Especially the red and black banded iron and red jasper. I think that rock at 9:25 is an agate! 😊
I don't think it is, but I'm not really sure. That one was a head scratcher.
Little Girls Point was my best beach when I took a trip to the U.P. five years ago. I found more nice stuff there than all of the rest of my stops that week. Thanks for sharing this, you brought up nice memories.
I was really hoping for an agate, but sure didn't leave disappointed.
I toured the whole north shore of the U.P. in 2020 and found Little Girl's Point to be my favorite. Such a nice variety and such colorful stuff!
The banded iron formation there is just amazing.
@@MichiganRocks The first cool rock that I found there was a bright piece of banded iron. Barely had left the parking lot when I found it.
My favorite piece of banded iron was the first rock I found at LGP. It was so brilliant and differentiated that you couldn't miss it from ten yards away. It looked like one of those velvet ants that we have down our way. It's about the size of my thumb. I also found some pieces maybe even better there, as far as size, but the first one told me that I had arrived at a great place after an eleven-hour drive from home. I left at 4:30 am and got to the beach at 3:30pm. I was staying in Ironwood but I went directly to the LGP beach and had so much fun that I stayed there another whole day.
That sounds like some of my trips. We went to Lake Superior about a month ago and left the house at 4:30 AM. It was a much shorter drive, but we stayed until dark and got home after midnight.
We love the banded iron and jasper.
I would love those omars............ :) You said one was your favorite and left it behind! I would love your leftovers. Ha!
I should have thrown one of those into the Stone Stash.
I’m so excited to see where you’ll explore next!!!😅 Your videos make my day!
I live in S.E. Iowa and I have visited Ironwood, Mi. every summer for the last 20 years. I love Little Girl Point. I go there for the large smooth flat rocks for some rock painting hobbies. I also love agates but I have found bigger & nicer Lake Superior agates here than there. Most of what I have found there have been dime sized and smaller. Happy hunting !
That's interesting. I know that Little Girls Point is over hunted, but I thought that 20 years ago you would have found some bigger agates.
@@MichiganRocks well, part of the problem then & now is I can't swim so wading is not an option ....at least no deeper than my ankles .....LOL
Rob, I see where you are traveling across the UP. If you happen to go near Calumet I thoroughly recommend stopping to talk to Alex @ Rock Pickers Paradise. He is in his 80's and has been prospecting, mining & collecting rocks his entire life and is the most knowledgable person I have met. And one other comment, I have never heard you speak about collecting near Marquette or else I missed it. One of my favorite beaches is the area just West of Black Rocks. Almost every rock is beautiful there. Good luck.
My sister lives in Lake Linden, so I'm in that area almost every summer. I'll stop in and talk to Alex next time I'm there. I've been to that store before, but I think it was a woman working there. It's been a few years, so I might be remembering wrong.
I have not picked rocks much in the Marquette area, although my mom and another sister both live there and I visit several times each year. I hunted between Presque Isle and Picnic Rocks, closer to Picnic Rocks. I have not hunted on Presque Isle. Is the beach you're talking about on Presque Isle? I'll be sure to check that out. I have looked for possible hunting locations there, but just haven't found much.
@@MichiganRocks Yes, out at the very end of Presque Isle. As you come around the bend in the road there is a gravel drive leading you down to a parking area @ Black Rocks. If you walk straight north there are 5 coves just to the West of Black Rocks.
Also, if you have a boat or take your Kayak out around the seawall & light and come straight back into the beach you shall find 3 or 4 sea caves that are also fantastic.
And finally, if you go out to Partridge Island there is also fantastic hunting there. I found a 4 pound Agate of a lifetime there just off the East side shoreline. There are no trespassing signs on the Island, but I just stay out in the water area.
@@user-ob4ph7rj7m I really need to throw the kayaks on top of the car next time we go up there.
That was a little different environment than what we usually see you in. Loved the huge striped sandstone formations. It’s too bad the water wasn’t a bit clearer.
Not that different. It was similar to some of the Keweenaw beaches I have been to. Wait a bit and you'll see me in some really different environments.
Some of those rocks are so cool!
What a cool beach! I loved all of the banded iron! Really pretty stones! I hope someone finds the rock you hid and takes a picture and sends it to you! I can't wait to see all the places you get to!
I have been enjoying my new Stone Stash game. It's so fun to hear from the people who find them. So far, that's only been two people from three games.
Gorgeous finds! Really enjoyed this video!
One of my favorite spots!
I liked it too!
Words don't explain how we appreciate these informative videos, thank you so much, From Ontario Lake area.
You're welcome, Samuel.
This beach was nice but I think you've been to better spots. The weather looks awesome!
Sure, but I thought the banded iron formation here was among the best I have ever found.
Thanks for taking. Us with! Beautiful!
Beautiful finds 👍
I have heard a whole lot of good things about that area I can't wait to head that way this summer I have learned a whole lot from your page I'm more aware of rocks around me even if I go to the doctor's office I'm scanning for beautiful rocks my husband says I'm silly but I love rocks❤😂
I think your husband is missing out on all the fun!
Great video. Sounds like we are going to see Wisconsin Rocks and perhaps, Minnesota Rocks. Very excited to see what the next 2 weeks brings. Thanks.
I won't tell, although the cat's already out of the bag if you look in the right places.
Wow, so cool you came to the Point. I live near it and pick it often. There are agates here, but most I find are pretty small. I collect the banded iron formations as well. What the area of lacks in agates sure makes up for in variety and color. I never walked as far east as you have. So glad I got to see it.
I really enjoyed that beach. It's fun hunting somewhere new for a change.
YAY! You made it to one of my favorite places!
I can see why. Nice beach.
@Michigan Rocks my best rock spot there is actually up one of the streams. about half a mile up there's a dogleg where a lot of good stuff accumulates
@@TheLindagdetroit I never even thought about going upstream.
@@MichiganRocks I'm pretty sure I've been up the one you left the stash at. That pile of deadfall looked familiar
@@TheLindagdetroit That was the larger of the two streams I walked by.
That banded iron is soooo beautiful.never get tired of stripes of anykind❤
Banded iron stone is beautiful. Never get tired of it.
That's good because I haven't gotten tired of it either and will probably keep showing it.
Wow! Love all the greens!
Great finds, amazing beach for banded iron!
This is so cool! Thank you for taking us along!😇
Awe, you found my favorite beach! Thanks for the lovely walk, never get tired of seeing lake Superior rocks.
I can see how it would be your favorite. I had a really nice time there.
beautiful rocks & location
🙋♀️❤ So many pretty rocks today!
I'm excited about this one. This is the last planned spot on my late summer trip because it looked good on paper! I have learned a lot from you and I'm happy you are at this back!
I do hear that this place is heavily picked during the summer months.
Lake Superior water is cold all year round
Thanks Rob can't wait to see more!
Lots of pretty rocks there. I love them all.
Absolutely gorgeous day! You found lots of really awesome rocks. 😍🥰😇👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
It was a beautiful day!
Wow what a beautiful place to hunt.
Lots of pretty stones
Soooooo cool.
I learn somethin in every video.
Thx.
Good eye Rob! Love them yoopers!
I tried to find the hidden rock after work tonight but no luck, we might try again Sunday. How fun to know someone I'm subscribed to came thru my favorite haunt. Have a great summer hunting!
Walk to the right. I think it's the second stream. It's the one with the big mossy hill next to the stream.
Never get sick of any of the rocks there all beautiful, love the vids
Awesome trip am enjoying the different rockhounds you visit
Yeah, they're all posting way before I will.
Can't wait for the rest of my virtual vacation!
You're going to have to wait because I'm doling it out a little at a time.
Still love watching your videos, even when the rocks aren't as spectacular. If the banded iron is the best the beach has to offer, it works for me. Thanks again for sharing.
Those BIFs were spectacular.
More beautiful rocks. New beaches are exciting 😊
Yep, it's always fun to hunt somewhere new.
I’m so glad you made it to the western side - looking forward to more locations.
Next video should be out tomorrow. I just have to put the finishing touches on it. I got back home tonight (Thurs.)
No what is truly amazing they say that there more ... planet's in the universe than grains of sand on Earth hard too believe Godspeed thanks for sharing your videos with us Earth giant Tumbler with the waves in motion
Always love a good adventure.
Nice!! It's a beautiful day there.
It was a nice day, but by the end it got a little chilly.
I'm looking forward to all the rocks on this two week trip. Safe travels and happy hunting.
My jeep is not getting great gas mileage on the way home.
I love the blue ones as well as BIF! Enjoyed your walk today. Thanks for sharing ❤ and looking forward to seeing more of your 2 week adventures!
Next one should be out Friday.
I like the neopolitan one. All nice.
Little Girl’s Point was the first stop in my two week solo UP trip I did last summer. Inspired by watching your videos :) I will say I found I still couldn’t hit everywhere I wanted to…guess I’ll just to make another treck on up!
I found my first Lake Superior agate at Little Girls Point. It’s an itty bitty little one, but I love it.
How about an annual trip. Just one or two is not enough.
@@MichiganRocks that will probably end up happening! :)
If my local college had a professor give a lecture on rocks, 5 people would go. This video has 17k views, dude has 140k subs. This is how science should be taught
I hardly think this counts as science. This was just a nice walk on the beach.
My husband and I have a cabin on Lake Road, very close to Little Girl's Point. I've found lots of beautiful rocks on that beach through the years--Lots of Yooperlites, banded chert, epidote, agates, unakite, all sizes of banded iron, and lots of Omars. We find more agates when we take our boat out to beaches that is inaccessible by land.
Yeah, I hear this beach gets hammered, so I'm not too surprised that I didn't find agates. Getting to less accessible beaches is definitely the way to go.
I keep thinking of Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street when listening… Ernie, I think…. 😆
I was just here and found some great smaller agates, unikite and then, a few fist sized yooperlites! We started at around 5pm, and the water was so warm compared to the duluth waters im used to, I picked until 1am! Cant wait to go back. Your channel puts me right in that same wonderful headspace listening to the waves crash and the rocks tumble, I just love it. My new favorite channel!
Sounds like a great day (and night) on the beach. You sound like me, time flies when I'm on the beach.
Great video! Sure makes me want to add that area to my list.
Oh, the colors of a Lake Superior shore! Sigh... so many rocks, so little time, so little room left in my house ;-)
That's exactly why I am very selective about what I take home.
Great video thanks❤
You could sell some of these online. A souvenir of your channel.
I could, but I'm not going to. Sorry about that.
I understand.
This is a hobby you love.
Just a neat thought to see it picked up on a far flung deserted beach and to hold it in your hand.
Great video! lol I would have had a big bag of those blueish rocks! I like them lol
You are lucky to live there!
Looking forward to following this adventure! Just watched the MN video too...i have got to get to the north shore!
It was fun up there.
Nice video, we have been on that beach before, it's beautiful there ,just love the U.P.!
It sure is beautiful. I loved it.
I love that beach it is awesome. And the closest to are vacation home in Wisconsin 1 hour away banded Iron every were. The water is very clear now. I found the nicest agate I ever seen on that beach. My go to beach for sure. At night full of yooperlites.
The banded iron there was just awesome. I haven't started tumbling it yet, but I will one of these days.
@@MichiganRocks It tumbles great I got some done lots more tumbling.
Famous yupper lights too
Beautiful banded stones.
I'm not sick of the banded iron, it's beautiful.
I'm watching video on my smart TV, and commenting on my phone 😂, love your videos
I have had other people tell me that they can't comment on their TVs. I appreciate the extra effort to comment!
@@MichiganRocks no I haven't been able to comment on my TV, so I comment as I watch, it's always a pleasure to watch your videos.
You so have to come rock hunting in NZ, you'd love it over here. 😊😊😊
After seeing you pass by some rocks that I would pick up I think you need to create a virtual reality rock hunt out of your videos so we can have you pick up some of the rocks you pass by. 😁
I have seriously thought of doing that, but many beaches I go to don't have cell phone reception.
Awesome hunt! Nice seeing you by the water after seeing you Did some dirt digging for beautiful rocks elsewhere😉Hope you trip is fantastic👍👍
I've been away from the Great Lakes for over a week now. I'm ready to be home, although I've had a great trip.
Looking forward to seeing your upcoming adventures. Im with Nancy. My idea of camping is a 2 star motel.
You girls are wimps. I camped for four nights in a row in the rain.
Really love that bright red stone with the cracks, that you are going to tumble.
I look forward to its progress
I have a recently acquired glut of rocks to tumble, so it might be awhile.
@@MichiganRocks you should see my huge pile of stones after my 16 day rock hunting trip to the south Island.
I have about 80 kg to tumble. 😊😂😂😂, its so cool
@@nicolagraynewzealandrockho8976 I thought I had a lot in my Jeep after my trip. I don't think I have quite that much, but maybe.
@@MichiganRocks if you went to Gemstone beach, I bet you would have a bucket full, the stones are amazing there.
Omg, and the next video that came up, was hunting in bear canyon, so amazing that you met up with Theo
He's really tall.
@@MichiganRocks that's handy when you need to reach up to all the rocks in those cliffs 😄
You're picky. I love every rock you picked up!
thankyou for the steady close ups i feel the expearence ,outher vidieos frustrate me not doing that
I'm not sure they're always steady, or even in focus, but I do the best I can.
I have found a bunch of sandstone even with beautiful pink lines in it❤
Sandstone doesn't polish, unfortunately. It can still be pretty unpolished though.
What an awesome trip! Love all the rocks you pick up ! I’m also learning. I’ve bought some agate from up there and I now know some of it is banded iron lol. It’s beautiful nice to know what it is I’m buying lol. They look a lot a like . Thanks for always sharing with us! Be safe
Banded iron doesn't really look that much like agate once you know what they both look like.
Great video
