If you’ve got a standing water problem, you may have heard about soakaway crates - or, as they’re sometimes called; attenuation cells or plastic soakaways. Soakaway systems also sometimes called attenuation cells or plastic soakaways are an extremely effective way of dispersing water, without the need for planning complex draining routes or potentially widespread work.

That taping is like my Christmas presents
My thoughts exactly 🤣
It’s probably for the best that they’re burying it
Is there meant to be a pipe feeding into this?
How do you know the dimensions are suitable for the soil type?
What was the white sheet material?
Soakaway crates is very effective system if you have a problem with standing water, with this you can very easy eliminate that problem,
Unless you install it in clay

work in practical terms? How do they soakaway water? What happens in practicality if we are in the presence of a clay soil?
If its built in clay then you've made a nice pond with a big plastic crate stuck in it

Would like to have seen how the inlet pipe was positioned and sealed
Sorry Doug. It was laid on the top of the crates and wrapped with geotextile!
Indeed!
Very good thankyou .
Justin brickright 👍
Thanks Justin :)
Absolutely a promising video.Greatly helpful information and nicely presented.I enjoyed and thanks
Very good video
Great video , the white cloth membrane can I ask if u could insulate a shed with it thanks
Hey, what is the size of your soakaway crates? And what is the bearing strength of it? I'm really interested in this kind of crates to build a soak away system under my garden.
What's best to use for base pea shingle or 10 to 20mm gravel?
Very nice
good video is amazing
do the crates not get filled with shingle or anyting?
No mention of the pipe(s) going into it though
Does anyone know how to dissemble the cells?
Great video but what happened to the inlet pipe?
Thanks Tajash! Apologies - this was our first attempt at making a video and I agree it isn't very clear - but the inlet pipe is laid across the top of the crates with a small cut at the top to allow the water in, the membrane goes over the top of the inlet pipe and the infill on top.
I have seen this done elsewhere but the crates were filled with 1 1/2 or 2 inch stones !
Not a good idea! The crates are designed to have a 95% void ratio in order to hold the water. Filling them with aggregates would just render them useless.
Wrapped in a membrane how does it soak away?
Hi Christine, the non-woven membrane allows water in and out but stops dirt or silt getting in. It's important to use a non-woven membrane with plastic soakaway crates!
Did I miss something. Shouldn’t the crates be filled with bricks / hardcore etc. ?
Hi Graham. No, this would render the crates useless. They have a 95% void ratio which allows them to hold the water.
I'd hate to see you wrapping christmas pressies
How many crates did you use?
8 for this 1m3 kit
what happens when the box is full of water,
Hi Glyn. The soakaway crates allow water to soak away out into the surrounding earth at a rate that the ground can accept.
@@easymerchantlimited4565 first time i have seen them in use on land where a pub was,
A bit different from how soakaway is traditionally installed in my country. This looks quite better
What happened to the pipe fitting???
The inlet pipe is laid on top of the crates. Sorry we missed this from the video!
Some of the fakest comments 🤣🤣
Bots have taken over
Did you put gravel inside the soakaway ? Because over time it will deep in that area if not ?
No, the system needs to be free of gravel. The crates are wrapped with a geotextile precisely to stop the gravel or silt from getting into the system. 150mm of gravel should encase the wrapped crates which stabilises them as well as further aiding drainage.
Bottom of the pit was already leeching in water and the soil was heavy clay, I doubt the job worked in that soil
Nothing was installed during this video. It's just an example video of how to install it.
You British guys are always getting it wrong. Line the entire hole. Use 2"-3" rock. Then envelope the rock and crates together. This keeps the rock from integrating out into the soild and vice versa. In this way it will last 200 years instead of 5 years. At least, here in Tennessee that is the way we do it.
Turn the MUSIC down when you are speaking please....Why am I having to say this in the year 2020?
It's not rocket science
This is true! Luckily for me!
