Thank you for all the informative vids Ken ! This has to be time consuming with all the shoots and editing. Keep up with the great work ! Will keep you in our prayers for a prosperous new start on your career !
Man, this man is a wealth of information!!! It also helps to have You asking some important questions!! Thanks for putting this out there. As for the most important thing, You know a man can only put up with so much (Stuff) and he has to do what he has to do about it. Hang in there KEN , sounds like you may be on the right track to recovery, I sure hope so!!! Thanks so much for your videos, I don't miss a one of them!!!
Thanks to Todd and you for this series on tracking. I followed John Hope back in the 80’s tracking Samantha and have always wondered how big fish moved. Keep up the good work. And good luck in your new venture.
IV been watching for last couple months from bull shoals lake. I really enjoy everything IV seen about bass movement and boat reviews..keep up the great work.
always stressful to leave a job, I left my family business a few years ago, man was that hard. Stay strong, work hard and you'll be fine, I wish you well.
What a great series. I have a few questions/ observations. He talked more about cover than structure .Is that seasonal? Or a given? The way I understand the interview is. A bass won't stray far away from his favorite ambush point. But it may take time(percentage of bass caught)for her to find it? They roam until they find their most comfortable chair with the best/closest food. Then they always come back to their favortie Pizza joint and sit in the same spot?
Jim you have some of the same questions Todd does, how are these fish going to chance their behavior over seasons, that's what great about having transmitters with a 2 year battery life. And yes, once they find "home", they don't stray much
Good stuff. Question for TP&W. Be interested to track the movement of fish weighed in after release at single location. (Example major marina or boat ramp) Do the fish move out and if so how far and when do they start feeding again? Time it takes them to exit? What water depth do they go if they stay? ( ASSUMING SIMILAR MONTHS USED IN THIS STUDY)
Great videos. Really enjoy the content, especially the boat reviews. Good luck with your new adventure and may the good Lord guide and watch over you. I always believe that good things happen to good people.
Great series of videos. Once you’ve released all of them is there any chance you could put the whole interview in one video? Good luck on your new adventure! Starting over ain’t easy but it can be rewarding.
Im curious as to how far they will swim after releasing them a distance from where they were caught...Such as catching one at point "A" and putting them in the livewell and then releasing them say, 200 yards from where they were caught? Another curious thought...What do bass do when released en masse at a tournament location such as Cassell, how far will they migrate from that release point...
Ken I own 2 ponds and about 3 years ago I did a test or tried a few things. One pond is pond A it's only 2 acres. Pond B is over 5 acres... now their is a reason I'm mentioned this. Ok pond A over about 6 months I could catch bass Releases it back and by my second fish I couldn't get bit.. now same pond A I keep the bass I could keep getting bit. CRAZY... pond B same thing but after about 10 of catching fish and Releases they turn off. If I keep they keep biting that's a fact ... don't know why not a fish biologist
You have to believe it's the same thing, they give off some kind of chemical signal that says "danger" and it shuts that school down. I'd love to come document that with you one day on film kensmithfishing@outlook.com
@@KenSmithFishing ken I live in sc on Clark's hill lake now good news I got a buddy of mine who owns peach ponds and one is over 120 acres... fun thing ken is they ONLY fish for crappie in that pond the bass is untouched... let's just say the pond is over 50 years old... enough said... let set it up for spring time and we can go to lake also hartwell to hill to Murray make a week out of it And yes I got u a place to stay
Just curious....do they not have GPS tracking devices or technology so they could track these fish constantly? I mean they are tracking our phones 100% of the time so I know that the technology is available, just not sure of the cost. I’m sure they could figure it out if we really wanted to come up with something.....I’m sure the battery life is the issue but there is a solution to all problems if we put our minds to it.
Bobby for sure battery life is an issue, if I remember correctly when a fish dies the "ping" doubles up and it really burns up the battery. But the other thing is manpower, they can only go over there for one day every other week.
I would like to know more information on taking the 14 day moving average and why take the distance and divide by 14? Seems that is falsely represented information. Is there a way we can read these studies? Now that I know this information is being collected, I have ALL the questions.
Brian, a guy named John Hope here in Texas actually did. He tracked at least one smallmouth that Alton Jones caught in Lake Whitney. He wrote about it in his book Trackin Texas Trophies. The most interesting observation is that although large mouth have really small ranges, if I remember right I think that smallmouth moved as much as 3 miles in a 24 hour period.
I have to get a copy of that book. Years and years ago my father was practicing for the second tournament of champions on lake mead. He had been catching 3 to 4 pounders in preacher's cove when offical pratice came around a front was coming the next day so he went to that area to check on the fish and bam there gone. The whole area was shallow but out front of this place and around the corner was deep water. He fired up the lowrance paper graph and found all those fish wadded up on a volkswagon sized boulder and and old small tree or big big brush bush that had grone right next to it.
A lot of this I’ve already determined just by having livescope and being dialed in. There is a place in my lake where a big huge lay down log is out in 12 ft water and at any given time there is 10-15 21in-24in big bass. I’ve thrown everything but the kitchen sink without live bait. And I catch them probably 5% maybe 10% of the time. I’ve caught the same 7 lber 3 times this year and she lives here never really moving unless spawn or feed. Very interesting
The lake fork tracking study. They have some that's moved miles and some that's stayed in the same creek. Watch it here: ruclips.net/video/DdwgZdiisYQ/видео.html
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 Very refreshing videos. Sorry to hear your employer couldn't act right. What's the saying "one door closes and another one opens " hopefully it will be an airplane hanger door!!
Great job. Another great video in a great series. If it’s not too late for a Todd question, with regards to the released fish going “home” or possibly alarming his buddies... What if I keep the fish in my live well and later release in a new location? Does he find a new home near the release or try to find his way back to his catch point?
The video brought up a question. He brings up the catch percentage and it seems like he may be pointing to anglers just not catching the fish. My question is doesnt that prove that there were more fish before they sprayed all those chemicals on them while they were spawning and up shallow? There was obviously more fish, and bigger fish being caught back then so even if the catch percentage of individual fish was the same, it proves there was just more fish. I had more types but didnt want to rant on how stupid it is to put chemicals in our lakes to kill vegetation. Ken, I will say a prayer that you get everything you want out of your new start. Wish you the best and hopefully you start making a killing on RUclips videos
I was up the Atoyac last spring...I talked to the guy's at Ralph McAllister ramp that sprayed their. I ask as many questions as I could while they were mixing the spray up at 630 am... They told me it's not harmful to the fish at all and I shit you not One of the guy's duped his fingers in it and stuck it in his mouth...he said it was Aquatic safe it convinced me that Todd and others in charge know what their doing and are all about saving habitat in a safest way..
Keith I don't think the vast of the majority of the lake was sprayed, they are spraying to kill giant salivina and that is mostly up north, I just don't think we can draw a line between spraying and reduction in fish population. Personally I believe it is the keep and eat culture in the area (sure I'm going to anger some guys with this). But natural mortality for adult fish is 20%'ish in a given year and their creel studies at Toledo show crazy high fisherman retention or harvest. I don't remember the number over there but I think it's close to 50%, if day after day the locals eat 50% of the fish they catch, well it doesn't take long to decimate a fish population. Louisiana fish and wildlife won't even drop their daily bag limit from 8 to 5 fish, until that culture changes, Toledo is going to be tough
@@KenSmithFishing how much has harvesting changed over the last 3-4 years? I would be apt to agree if it wasn’t the best lake in the country for back to back years just 4 years ago. Something changed to make the lake tough, and I don’t think it’s the catch and eat mentality. Fishing pressure, fish stress, lack of vegetation, etc or something else is the main cause. I’d love to get Driscolls take on the loss of vegetation and if/when he thinks it will come back.
Ken, wonderful job. This is information that is precisely what we need.

Probably not until next spring
