The Herrera family are fantastic people preserving forests as habitat for this amazing bird and give us the possibility to enjoy it very close and safe for them!
Indeed they are! One of the nicest families I've met in Colombia and the work they are doing to conserve this species and the forests there is admirable. Always a pleasure to visit the Herreras. Every birder who visits Colombia should pay them a visit :)
🤩🦜🦜 THIS MORNING WALKING UP ON THE GREEN MOUNTAINS ⛰ NEAR TO BOGOTA WE CROSSED TWO 2 “PAJAREROS”!!!, AVISTANDO AVES!. WE ONLY HEARD SOUNDS BIRDS!. WONDERFUL DOCUMENT ABOUT BIRDS IN COLOMBIA 🇨🇴!.
Well a fine video showing the bird and tooting Mr. Kaestner's horn but it is unforgivable and quite selfish that the lodge was not named! Presumably he stayed there to make the video! You would think he would have the generosity to give this Colombian couple a little publicity for their endeavor so that other birders might use their facility. As a birder in Colombia who would like to visit their house/lodge I am surprised by and dissapointed with this omission.
probably our fault ,,, even we mentioned it in the video description: "Thanks to Sendero La Herrería, Fundación Camaná, John Myers, and Peter Kaestner." ... thanks to Peter and his family and this video, donations have come for this family and this conservation project and to make this reserve bigger... so generosity is what is been all this about ;-)
not small... as all in birding... this is an activity that involves flights, cars, etc... but the revenue in conservation through tourism is amazing...
The way I look at it is all those planes are going to fly anyways it’s good to have atleast some passengers going to eco tourism destinations that provides jobs and revenue to incentivize habitat conservation and anti poaching
Listening to Peter’s original recording in eBird is so cool and gives me goosebumps when he starts to give a description of the unknown grallaria.
Amazing isn't it! Seeing it with him and visiting the exact spot where he first heard and saw it gave me goosebumps too
This is wonderful!! I met three of Peter’s brothers at Rancho Naturalista in Costa Rica. They did share some of Peter’s legendary birding stories.
Thanks, Jeff, glad you enjoyed it. If you haven't read the recent profile on Peter for Outside Magazine, I'd highly recommend that too
@@TheBirdersShow indeed, what a good written one!

I wonder what the carbon footprint is.
