Great minds think alike! I started doing bags like this last year. I let my recipients know to either save the bags to use next Christmas for their gift giving or use them for storing ornaments or lights, etc. Who knows when you’ll get a gift in one of your own bags!
About four years ago, a favourite faux silk duvet cover was damaged in the dryer. It was too pretty to throw away, so I used the undamaged sections to make gift bags. They were a huge, huge hit, and the family wanted more. My adult daughter now has a set for her own home too. Whilst wrapping paper can be beautiful, the gift bags are even better. And it takes more time to write the label than it does to put the gift inside the back and draw the ribbons closed. I have some bags in Christmas fabrics, and others in jewel tones. The jewel tone bags can be use at any time of year, including Christmas.
I've been making gift bags for several years now, and everyone loves them. I will definitely start making this version. I normally use interfacing on the bag and line it, and make it on the serger, except for a bit of topstitching. Thanks so much for this great tutorial!
Loving this tutorial. We are getting ready for our guild gift giving and putting our hand sewn gifts in a fabric gift bag will make them a great two for one.
Misty you're adorable! I was watching this now in January and thinking this'd be awesome for birthdays too!! Any occasion of gift giving. These could even be personalized, like stocking are😍 Yayyyy..hi Josh!!
The bags are Eco-friendly so the trees are not cut down for the making of wrapping paper, name tags, possibly tissue paper and even some boxes. Plus you can make them for all the holidays and celebrations(Christmas, Valentine's, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, and Birthday's and so many more) as well as decoration(s) by stuffing the bag(s) with stuffing or old shirts or old socks or old towels(making sure they are clean first). The stuffing can be endless. You can also change up the look by making it Scrappy(using the scraps that have been collected so every little bit of the material can be utilized so little waste). So many themes, color schemes and textures of the material. Love the tutorial and it has given me so many different ideas that I'm being overrun with them. So Thank You for the wonderful ideas and have a Great and Wonderful week.
Please just let Misty do the tutorial. She does a great job. If Misty is eventually going to take over the Friday tutorials I hope you will be the camera man and let her do the tutorial.
could a person have all the seams pinned together like the ribbon casing, cuff and bag and then sew one seam all together like the sausage roll pillowcase? less time and then also the french seams included?
It's a great idea Sheryl! I actually tried it before filming this and found it difficult to keep the ribbon casings in place using that method. But it would be a nice finish to have all the seams encased.
I love the idea! I hate the price of fabric here in Canada! But... I guess it can be looked at as an investment in our planet. They do look great so I'll have to try a few.
An easier way for me to box the corners is to draw a small 1 to 2" square (depending how large I want the square) at the bottom on each side. Then cut them out (using scissors as a cutter can make an ooops (ask me how I know)), unfold and match ends and sew a quarter inch. This gives me a more accurate square on both sides.
You can buy the thimble cup and make a pincushion to go in it, Heather! We even did a video on making those pincushions, link below: ruclips.net/video/ZY4OU84D7z0/видео.html
Hi, Sandee! Just click on this link here: bit.ly/2pG4uTl Once the file pulls up, you can either print it or download it using the down arrow in the top right corner of the page. Hope this helps!
Hello! What time does the live start? I've watched the replay so many times I've forgotten the actual live start time. Here in Arizona, we don't change time, so we just left pacific time zone and now we're mountain time zone.
Love this idea and will be making them for my gift bags. Also, is there a pattern for the Winter Pines quilt. The tutorial link is for a table runner not the quilt.
Hi, Holly! The table runner uses the same construction method as the quilt, though we've never made a tutorial for the entire quilt. The pattern is at the link below. Hope this helps! www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/detail/37263/missouri-star-quilt-co/missouri-star-quilt-co/winter-pines-throw-quilt-pattern-by-missouri-star
The one page PDF is here, and has written instructions for the bag. Hope this helps! blog.missouriquiltco.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/GiftBagsFacebook.pdf
That would be the Diagonal Seam Tape, which is currently out of stock. If you add it to your wishlist, we'll email you when it comes back in, sometime around mid-November. Here's the link! www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/detail/114574/cluck-cluck-sew/-/diagonal-seam-tape

Suggestion: When Misty is doing the demonstration you interchange the machine with the ironing pad. It is obviously set up today for Jenny to work - being a "lefty"!!!
Hi, Melissa! You certainly can share it with us, either via our Facebook page or by emailing it to us at info@missouriquiltco.com. Hope to see it soon!

It looks like the same pattern just with a background triangle instead of another 'upside down' tree and a sashing strip between. Hope that makes sense
This is my favorite tutorial. Last year I made a bunch of these, and I am rewatching the tutorial so I can make a bunch more. Thank you!
I just stitched one of these up….now I want to make a whole army of them. So fast and easy, plus they are adorable!!
Thank you Misty! I made these for all of my gifts! No paper! Haven't enjoyed "wrapping" presents so much in years! Merry Christmas!

Hello from Florida
When boxing corners, the width is twice the length. One inch in, one inch on each side of the top seam.
I love the idea! I hate the price of fabric here in Canada! But... I guess it can be looked at as an investment in our planet. They do look great so I'll have to try a few.
Maria my budget is "buy fabric online on sale" budget. I hope you can do that too ❤

Then cut them out (using scissors as a cutter can make an ooops (ask me how I know)), unfold and match ends and sew a quarter inch. This gives me a more accurate square on both sides.
Thanks for the suggestion, Susan!
That’s exactly how I do them.
You can always use scraps from other projects and then they are pretty much free!
Can we buy that pincushion!? It's seriously adorable. Looks like a thimble.

Hi there from Georgia!
The printable link does not work.
Why not make that like the burrito pillow cases by sewing the top first then sewing the bottom and using french seams to avoid any unfinished seams?
