How is it that a musical landscape set 50-some years before I was even born can bring me so much relaxation and a form of nostalgia for a time I've never seen??
My parents married in '49, and I was born in '52. So that could be my future ma & pa chillin' there. A couple years before he fought in Korea. Young man with a new wife & first child (me!) on the way. Got drafted. Reported. Served. Fought. Lost buddies that he rarely talked about, but never forgot. Came home. Asked for nothing. Expected nothing. Made a life. Paid his taxes. Raised his family. I got a new little sister 10 mo's after he got home, and a brother 7 yrs later. A true American Patriot. With a loving, supportive partner. Mom's gone now. We still have Pop. He's 95, needs no pills, doesn't need glasses, owes no one a penny. Still takes his daily walks, only recently stopped driving. Here's to them both, and a life well lived... 🥂

U were blessed to have a grandparent. Mine All passed away when I was too young to remember them. I was 1-2 yrs old so no memory of them. Yr memories are very valuable. Having an elder to talk to us is So important to our growth.

But the really important thing is that you found something that makes you feel blissful and actually doesn't cause you any harm while doing it. Good for you!
Why am I always overcome with a feeling of sorrow when I see these beautiful images and the songs? Why do I crave for this so deeply? Why does this seem so familiar and why does this feel lost in time,never to come back again?
I am the same way, you crave it because it gives off the nature and vibe of a simpler time. A better connection of man with one another. It seems that people were happier during those times even with all the hardships different communities faced.

And it’s the one holiday that I just can’t fathom why we don’t celebrate it like we used to, families getting together, everybody giving eachother gifts, the music, the movies, the love and warm feelings, not to mention the reverence for Jesus. When I was a kid EVERYBODY in the family made sure to come home for Christmas every year. Now we are lucky if we get a tiny small gathering of a few family members…

I was born on a farm, and this reminds me of summer nights, sitting on the porch, tired from chasing lightning bugs with my siblings. The farm is long gone, but I still have the memories.
The nostalgia I feel despite being born in 2000 makes me know I grew up with a golden hour. My parents helped me enjoy the best of ages. Music, book, and movie. I’m blessed to have such wonderful parents.

My grandma passed away five years ago, but I still think about her and miss her. Listening to this makes me think of her, and what she must have been doing in her 20s in 1949. My grandpa had gotten back from the war. It must have been a wonderful time.
I think it was a wonderful time, the United States was about to enter into its peak years and she got to live through that. I am sad I have to watch it's decline

I was 5 in 1949. My dad took 8mm moives back then then and I have many of them and coverted them to digital. Most are black and white but some of the newer onces are in color. How wonderful it was of him.

Same here. I've always felt like I've had an older soul. I don't know if it's because I remember a little of how my great grandparents and grandparents lived. Some of my grandparents listened to ( what we called old timey country and gospel music too ). But I remember hearing this music too. It does seem like a more peaceful time. People had more respect back then. More people went to church too. They had more family get togethers too. Now, that all my grandparents are gone we don't go to family get togethers and dinners no more. It's sad.
how I would put it is that compared to how times were back then to now is because times were more simple and happy plus the music was exceptional and calming there have been times that I would want to be alive back then but someone once told me just by listening to this music and treasuring it is just as good cause it gives you the scents that your there and gives you peace of mind

I was born in 1955 and grew up in NYC. Although we did not have a porch, we had a stoop (a set of stairs in front of the building). A radio always played my mom and neighbors tunes from the '40s when she would go outside to sit on the stoop with the neighbors. I loved hearing their stories of the "old days.) Good Times!
That's just all perspective. Old people in the 1940s I'm sure missed the simplicity of their youth. Before cars, highways, television and radio. I'm only in my 30s and I miss the simplicity of my childhood before the internet, smart phones, and social media. And people in the future will look back and miss the simplicity of today.

My father was born in 1949 and he passed away last year in March. Although his childhood was full of pain, I am forever grateful that he raised me with an appreciation for retro media and classical rhetoric. Rest in peace, Daddy. Not to make everyone more nostalgic and sad but…there were millions and millions more little creatures of the twilight back then - bullfrogs, peepers, crickets, bats, fireflies. I get a little misty eyed every time the few fireflies come out on a warm upstate evening. It truly is a special sight.

However, what you can do, is ditch the cell phone for a while, and immerse yourself with the appreciation of the times we didn't have our whole lives on a stupid piece of plastic, called a cellphone, for goodness sake!! Don't know how old you are, and if you have kids? But. spend quality time with everyone you love.
Well I practice this culture. It's a free world. I refuse to be part of a culture just because it is practiced by most. We are all individuals. And I prefer the culture of decency. I am a millenial btw, I don,t think it is necessary to make sense for the next gen, but we certainly must keep it alive with this kind of contents, so the future gen can be aware.

@swordsman3951 Been recently doing this. Only difference is that I listen to a lot of music from the 50s/60s, sipping on chamomile or apple cinnamon or mint tea. I'm anxiously awaiting fall, the sounds are different and so is the feeling of the earthy smell in the wind. 😄
I was born in 1942 and I remember some of these songs! I am so glad I happened on this site!!! My mother used to listen to the radio while she was cooking, cleaning, etc. This is so o nostalgic! So glad I was born during the time when music was real music and not all the noise they pass off now as music! Such wonderful music and time!
it's ok, deez. I'm like 3 times your age, and have had the same feeling. A couple of years ago, I stopped into a little "junk shop." I was immediately attracted to an old radio. I bought it. Didn't know what it was. For years, I have joked with my friends and family that, "1946 was my favorite year," as I love 1940's black and white cinematography, especially the 1946 films noir. Found out later that the old radio I bought is an Air King radio from...you guessed it, 1946!! Who knows...just enjoy the ride!!!
This is what I wish my everyday life would be like, but it's hard to find someone special who would want to spend these beautiful, simple moments with you.

What's crazy to think about for me is, my great grandpa who is now 96, was old enough to have actually experienced this. So peaceful and tranquil. Thank you for this!
Can easily picture my great grandma rocking my grandmother to sleep on a warm summer evening in the 40's with old tunes like these softly playing in the background. All windows open and doors open/unlocked (because that was normal back then).
Before Alexa and Siri (lolllll the name siri is not in the Amazon echo dictionary) closed us when vocally prompted!!!Small fact in most of Gozo even in the capital city and other places in Malta like Zabbar Rabat Mdina(former capital) mostly and Mellieha they still keep doors and verandas porches open all night and wear similar styles to war times (still speak similar or in a strong British accent from (wartime radios Radifusion times that had the purposes of only alarms bomb warnings and the only form of entertainment other then playing cards tv's were illegal to own if you had one it was a secret and they left the door open so the neighbours would sit the families outside on wood chairs from their home (bring your own chair) and watch this one small black and white window into the unknown they would also all get make up who had as it was a rarity or made up make up using cork burnt matches carbon -dressed really well fur and what not hats with feathers(fascinators) (some would ask for a 'ticket fee' (the wearing God forbid the man in the window (tv news guy etc) lol would see they are wearing less formal then him) ( only radio hence the many kids born) (black to go to church to this day)Imagine Charlie Chaplin marvelling at an Amazon echo where I usually configured more bass and listen to this time travelling channel!!!

I remember beautiful moments in my life in the past, born in 61, in other country, my childhood with no phones, and in summer time, yes... We used to sit at the porch and talk.... Watching the stars, saying hello to neighbors . Life was very different then.
My parents were born early 40's, and I can attest that part of my childhood mornings consisted of music like this. I didn't think much of it then, but looking back on those days I realize there was a degree of contentment that is hard to duplicate today.
Believe it or not you can still do this. Sit out on your porch or back deck and light a fire this summer. No phones, just talking. Friends or family welcome. An unplugged night of enjoying the warmth, the fellowship, and the serenity of not doom scrolling on the nightmare brick.

That feeling of nostalgia, I feel like everyone has existed at one point in time. We’ve been our fathers, we’ve been our mothers, just like how our children are us. We are all connected, one endless loop of existence, infinity.
This reminds me of my dad. He was from this era. I was born when he was 50 years old. He lived to be 94. This is the music he listened to and because of that it reminds me of my childhood when i hear it. Its weird how the music of the WWII era can be nostalgic to me when I was born in the late 70's, but it is because of my dad.
My Grandparents started dating (or "courting" as it was known back then) in the very early 50's so this makes me think of them instantly. Maybe they had a date something similar to this with these tunes playing in the background too, who knows. I miss them both so terribly. Beautiful video - thank you.

I live among 40s things & only listen to 40s music since about 2014 but this song set is perfect with the muffled sound, waves & crickets to fall asleep. My high school friend sits on the porch with me & watches 40s movies with me. It's a preferred era to look back on. Thanks for the upload!
The reason "old" music is so relaxing is because back then they had no autotune, no synthesizer, and only real voices and real instruments. On top of that the natural brown noise made the music more soothing. Any one of these songs would've made it into an exciting concert if it was in person.
I was 5 years old, but at 79 I still like that music. I also like Noir jazz, 0ldies from the late 30's to the 80. Especially while I'm at my desk writing my book, which is now finished..
1949 my dad was out of the Navy from WW2 and working. My mother was still in England. They met in 55 at a dance. Technically old enough to be my grandparents because they were in their 40s when I came along. Always heard stories of the war and different times. Til this day I listen to their generation of music more than mine.

I think the reason so many of us are envious or are nostalgic for this time which we we’re not even alive for, is because in some way or another we we’re alive during it in a past life and just don’t remember
I was born in late 70s in a different part of the world, different culture and different civilization, but always had a connection with the America of 1950s. My grandfather travelled to Michigan to do his masters in veterinary medicine in 1949. He used to talk about post war America and its culture. Growing up, I saw his collection of American Parker pens, black n white photos of majestic American landscape and jazz music. I am still mesmerized by those nostalgic memories. I immigrated to North America and every now and then visit the old parts of Chicago and New York and Maine in search of those old times. Words can’t describe how the music and culture from 1950s pulls me. Alas, a bygone era….

You sit on your porch together with the love of your life in soft wicker chairs. You hold your cup of joe as you listen to the soft pleasant sound of crickets calling throughout the night, as if cheering on the waves far down below in the bay which tumble and crash just far enough away for the sounds to be soothing. Soft melodies of music by the current hits play on the radio inside, the volume just loud enough to hear out here. It's a warm New England night-the type you always loved as a child-and you sip your drink softly, thinking back on those days so long ago with your brother before you both were sent off to war. You feel your grip on the mug tighten ever so slightly. The war. You swore to never think much on it, but you can't help but slip up and think. It was only five years ago when you fought in the Pacific, five years since your brother had died from a Japanese kamikaze on his ship; why weren't you there? Why couldn't you have been there for him? Your eyes feel wet and cold, but a warmth on your hand disrupts your thoughts. The soft hand of your wife clutches yours as she places the cup down on the table between the two of you. "Feeling alright?" She asks. "No," You reply, seeing her worry for you sparking that love for her all over again. "But I'll be alright with you." She smiles and pats your hand. "The children are asleep, you can be open with me dear." You nod softly, slowly feeling calmed by her. You take the cup and sip it again, letting out a breath you didn't know you were holding. Giving her a kiss on her cheek, you smile to her and say, "Thank you, for everything, my dearest."

1 year before both my grandparents were born. My granny passed 3 yrs ago and it left my granddad devasted for so long. I imagine them both listening to this kinda music, just enjoying to be alive and together since they already met at 15 and married at 19. Just simpler times.. My grandma passed away five years ago, but I still think about her and miss her. Listening to this makes me think of her, and what she must have been doing in her 20s in 1949. My grandpa had gotten back from the war. It must have been a wonderful time.

I was 5 in 1949. My dad took 8mm moives back then then and I have many of them and coverted them to digital. Most are black and white but some of the newer onces are in color. How wonderful it was of him.

Same here. I've always felt like I've had an older soul. I don't know if it's because I remember a little of how my great grandparents and grandparents lived. Some of my grandparents listened to ( what we called old timey country and gospel music too ). But I remember hearing this music too. It does seem like a more peaceful time. People had more respect back then. More people went to church too. They had more family get togethers too. Now, that all my grandparents are gone we don't go to family get togethers and dinners no more. It's sad.
how I would put it is that compared to how times were back then to now is because times were more simple and happy plus the music was exceptional and calming there have been times that I would want to be alive back then but someone once told me just by listening to this music and treasuring it is just as good cause it gives you the scents that your there and gives you peace of mind

I was born in 1955 and grew up in NYC. Although we did not have a porch, we had a stoop (a set of stairs in front of the building). A radio always played my mom and neighbors tunes from the '40s when she would go outside to sit on the stoop with the neighbors. I loved hearing their stories of the "old days.) Good Times!

I'm only in my 30s and I miss the simplicity of my childhood before the internet, smart phones, and social media. And people in the future will look back and miss the simplicity of today.

Not to make everyone more nostalgic and sad but…there were millions and millions more little creatures of the twilight back then - bullfrogs, peepers, crickets, bats, fireflies. I get a little misty eyed every time the few fireflies come out on a warm upstate evening. It truly is a special sight.

I was born in 1942 and I remember some of these songs! I am so glad I happened on this site!!! My mother used to listen to the radio while she was cooking, cleaning, etc. This is so o nostalgic! So glad I was born during the time when music was real music and not all the noise they pass off now as music! Such wonderful music and time!

it's ok, deez. I'm like 3 times your age, and have had the same feeling. A couple of years ago, I stopped into a little "junk shop." I was immediately attracted to an old radio. I bought it. Didn't know what it was. For years, I have joked with my friends and family that, "1946 was my favorite year," as I love 1940's black and white cinematography, especially the 1946 films noir. Found out later that the old radio I bought is an Air King radio from...you guessed it, 1946!! Who knows...just enjoy the ride!!!

What's crazy to think about for me is, my great grandpa who is now 96, was old enough to have actually experienced this. So peaceful and tranquil. Thank you for this!
Can easily picture my great grandma rocking my grandmother to sleep on a warm summer evening in the 40's with old tunes like these softly playing in the background. All windows open and doors open/unlocked (because that was normal back then).
Before Alexa and Siri (lolllll the name siri is not in the Amazon echo dictionary) closed us when vocally prompted!!!Small fact in most of Gozo even in the capital city and other places in Malta like Zabbar Rabat Mdina(former capital) mostly and Mellieha they still keep doors and verandas porches open all night and wear similar styles to war times (still speak similar or in a strong British accent from (wartime radios Radifusion times that had the purposes of only alarms bomb warnings and the only form of entertainment other then playing cards tv's were illegal to own if you had one it was a secret and they left the door open so the neighbours would sit the families outside on wood chairs from their home (bring your own chair) and watch this one small black and white window into the unknown they would also all get make up who had as it was a rarity or made up make up using cork burnt matches carbon -dressed really well fur and what not hats with feathers(fascinators) (some would ask for a 'ticket fee' (the wearing God forbid the man in the window (tv news guy etc) lol would see they are wearing less formal then him) ( only radio hence the many kids born) (black to go to church to this day)Imagine Charlie Chaplin marvelling at an Amazon echo where I usually configured more bass and listen to this time travelling channel!!!

I remember beautiful moments in my life in the past, born in 61, in other country, my childhood with no phones, and in summer time, yes... We used to sit at the porch and talk.... Watching the stars, saying hello to neighbors . Life was very different then.
My parents were born early 40's, and I can attest that part of my childhood mornings consisted of music like this. I didn't think much of it then, but looking back on those days I realize there was a degree of contentment that is hard to duplicate today.

That feeling of nostalgia, I feel like everyone has existed at one point in time. We’ve been our fathers, we’ve been our mothers, just like how our children are us. We are all connected, one endless loop of existence, infinity.
The nature sounds, the quiet, starry night, sitting out on the porch listening to crickets with a drink and family brings me back somehow.
This reminds me of my dad. He was from this era. I was born when he was 50 years old. He lived to be 94. This is the music he listened to and because of that it reminds me of my childhood when i hear it. Its weird how the music of the WWII era can be nostalgic to me when I was born in the late 70's, but it is because of my dad.

My Grandparents started dating (or "courting" as it was known back then) in the very early 50's so this makes me think of them instantly. The reason "old" music is so relaxing is because back then they had no autotune, no synthesizer, and only real voices and real instruments. On top of that the natural brown noise made the music more soothing. Any one of these songs would've made it into an exciting concert if it was in person.

1949 my dad was out of the Navy from WW2 and working. My mother was still in England. They met in 55 at a dance. Technically old enough to be my grandparents because they were in their 40s when I came along. Always heard stories of the war and different times. Til this day I listen to their generation of music more than mine.

I was born in late 70s in a different part of the world, different culture and different civilization, but always had a connection with the America of 1950s. My grandfather travelled to Michigan to do his masters in veterinary medicine in 1949. He used to talk about post war America and its culture. Growing up, I saw his collection of American Parker pens, black n white photos of majestic American landscape and jazz music.
I am still mesmerized by those nostalgic memories.
I immigrated to North America and every now and then visit the old parts of Chicago and New York and Maine in search of those old times.
Words can’t describe how the music and culture from 1950s pulls me. Alas, a bygone era….
Each of us should bring this back to our homes!

Why couldn't you have been there for him? Your eyes feel wet and cold, but a warmth on your hand disrupts your thoughts.
The soft hand of your wife clutches yours as she places the cup down on the table between the two of you. "Feeling alright?" She asks.
"No," You reply, seeing her worry for you sparking that love for her all over again. "But I'll be alright with you."
She smiles and pats your hand. "The children are asleep, you can be open with me dear."

1 year before both my grandparents were born. My granny passed 3 yrs ago and it left my granddad devasted for so long. but, perhaps you did and just aren't aware of it yet. I was always fascinated by such music and felt a very strong connection to it. It wasn't till I participated in a regression that I discovered for myself that I had lived in this era. Very powerful memories. Cheers!
