    Thanks .mike!!! I have turned my first live edge bowl, after your video. Your instructions are most complete, by following it, my first came out fine,a little thick, but that comes with time. Thanks again...

    THAT was the best instruction for a newbie like me I have had thus far anywhere ! I now have all I need to turn wood except good weather. I HATE the COLD !! When I can catch a warm day or two I am going in the building and give it a whirl. Have zero experience but would sure love to learn, your videos help..... I think ? Keep up the good work !

    Mike, do you consider the thickness and width of the wood before you start? To determine what the end result might be?

    • @MikePeaceWoodturning
      @MikePeaceWoodturning  4 месяца назад

      Yes. I do not like turning very large live edge bowls or very small ones. Turnnng green bowls are more of a target of opportunity. I get a nice piece of green wood and turn a bowl rather than decide to turn a bowl and start looking for a certain size piece of wood. Does that answer your questiton?

  • @diydarkmatter

    very intresting mike . i got a question for ya . now i seen you put it in a paper bag at the end there . have you ever tried using silica i guess you can get it in kitty litter them high end brands of kitty. litter have you ever used this method and if so what did you think about it ?

    • @MikePeaceWoodturning
      @MikePeaceWoodturning  4 года назад

      Nope, never tried it. Not in a big hurry. There is a special desicant bead product for drying woodturnings that would be better than silican But it solves a problem I don't have.

    Every time I attempt these, I end up with a round bowl! I really like the lines of these bowls but may have to buy one from a competent wood turner! I will pass it off as mine when I give it to my wife! JK haha!

    Thanks Mike. As you know I mostly do segmented turnings but it's good to see how to take care of the green wood. I should probably do more green wood as it is obviously much quicker to the finished product. Thank you for sharing.

    Mike, I'm getting ready to try my first live edge and I have a question. To you treat the bark with any finish or as I've seen in other videos CA?

    • @MikePeaceWoodturning
      @MikePeaceWoodturning  2 года назад +1

      I generally do not use CA to hold the bark on. My NE bowls generally are from green Bradford Pear and the bark stays on. I do finish the entire bowl with Minwax AO including the bark.

    • @MikePeaceWoodturning

      Ebay. It is called an ACU jacket. Get a long so it will cover your pockets even if you are a Short or Regular. You can alwasy cinch up the velcro sleeves.

    That little green grommet is not tape, I know what that is! Must say, I was surprised to see one of those in this video. Might implement the idea myself!

    • @MikePeaceWoodturning
      @MikePeaceWoodturning  3 года назад +1

      I got that idea from Lyle Jamieson who got it from a student who was a vet. I think I found them on eBay for about $3 for a 100.

    Mike, Could I turn a bowl like that with easy wood tools also?

    • @MikePeaceWoodturning
      @MikePeaceWoodturning  4 года назад

      Probably. Not sure which cutter would slice the bark as well as a conventional gouge. Try it and let me know whcih cutter works best.
