12:21 so to answer your question, tony the tiger's ads in particular were originally animated by one Richard Williams Animation, whose namesake is arguably the greatest 2d animator who ever lived (things they worked on include the tony the tiger ads, as well as who framed roger rabbit and the thief and the cobbler among others; highly recommend looking up his ads sometime because they're GORGEOUS)
so anyways they set the bar so high that basically every other studio since who's done tony's ads have had to try and bring their A game to keep up the high standards

90s commercials were so strange. I remember seeing a commercial where a guy was playing a gameboy and the entire time a girl was flirting with him. I was trying to look for that ad when I accidentally found a gameboy camera ad where a boy is using the camera to flirt with his babysitter

19:15 I recall seeing a different varient of that Shadow the Hedgehog commercial on TV as a 12-year-old back in 2005 (I was born in 1993, so I'm an older Sonic fan) and I remember that commercial getting me hyped for the game.
I can't believe believe that was 19 years ago. That combined with the fact that some Sonic fans today weren't even alive back then makes me feel old. It's scary how fast time flies.
I too also slam my head with a dead taxidermized squirrel to give color to my Game Boy.
I missed some of the 90s games japanese ads in here, they had cool animations it would be cool to see them included, Sonic CD's JP ad, Sonic Drift JP ad, the ACTUAL first Sonic JP ad for Sonic 1...

I have a soft spot for these kind of ads despite me not even being born for some of these
I think the Japanese commercials for sure have more style but the old western ones where they would take jabs at Nintendo and Mario were so cool. I miss the era of when companies would be at each other’s throats and would roast the competition any chance they got

19:12 I thought I would answer the question of who those two are: why do a commercial with a song like this? Well, two people in the commercial are two members of M-Flo, a Japanese hip-hop group. With the song being a remixed version of one of their songs, "Tripod Bady." Since M-Flo's overall popularity and influence, it made sense that Sega would capitalize on that. It definitely helped that Taku and Verbal are fans of Shadow the hedgehog

I loooooooooooooooooove 90's and early 2000's commercials. I have a vivid memory of seeing a commercial for Pokemon Platinum and that's how I got into the mainline Pokemon franchise, I fell in love instantly but I was already a Pokemon fan since like 2005 because I watched the anime all those years back but was unaware of the video games except for Pokemon Pinball on the GBA

Broooooooooooooo I had some of the Sonic Heroes McDonald's toys. I left the Shadow Hockey one outside one day and then it rained and it never worked again, I was devastated as a 3 year old.
