It was nearly guaranteed to get off some chip damage with Fake Out + U-turn, so it would always do *something* in a game, even if it wasn't much. It helped that hyper offense (the playstyle that Ambipom matches up best against) dominates the low ladder because people just want to get the battles over with, and despite how heavily telegraphed it is, newbie opponents there would just let their frail Pokemon eat the Fake Out instead of just switching something bulkier in. Honestly, a bit of a gyp - Aipom worked out well for Ash's battle style and while the hint was there even in Aipom's capture episode that she wanted to be captured to get into contests, it turned out that Dawn really didn't use her much before evolving and then almost immediately sending her away. In exchange, Ash got Buizel which while a main battling mon was still overshadowed by Chimchar/Infernape, and Dawn had her team freed up for Togekiss down the line - which honestly should've been that nasty Togepi that would've been a good sense of writing to evolve into Togekiss instead of just given one for playing a prince and pauper scenario. Oh, and Ambipom upon leaving the anime never appeared again - except with some cameo in a movie. God, were the writers that against Ambipom? Ambipom is a part of gen 4's effort to reboot normal types, which featured new baby pokemon to give tanks bigger movepools (happiny, munchlax), new evolutions (Ambipom, Lickylicky, and Porygon-Z), the first normal-type legendary (Regigigas), and a fantastic new cheeser (Lopunny). It truly was an effort to show the potential utility of normal types, who's best traits were having one weakness/ one immunity and 2 resistances/1 opposing immunity and gen 4 made some amazing normal-type threats.

@@cintronproductions9430 Yeah but does that really mean much when said close friend then pawns her off to some random guy who is blatantly obviously a con man? Honestly when you think about it, the trade was a gyp. Sure Ash got a Water type for his Grass/Fire/Water core, but he practically ignores Turtwig and Buizel for Infernape - Turtwig because it became Torterra and thus not the style of battle Ash is used to (and you'd think someone aiming to be a Pokemon Master would you know, MASTER a battle style), and Buizel because well it wasn't as popular as Infernape. I think maybe Ash should've kept Aipom, have her become Ambipom, and gotten a slow Water type like Shellos, opposite color to the one Dawn's Rival Zoey had - then he would've had double monkeys, BUT when Turtwig became Torterra Ash would've been training Shellos/Gastrodon to know how to work with glaciers. Aipom, the Mega Rayquaza of Little Cup
I love that you've been mentioning LC niches lately! I used to play that format so it's really cool being able to see that kinda content.
"The Mega Rayquaza of Little Cup" is one hell of a title to hold onto. Imagine just wrangling your opponent's entire team with that hand... tail... hand-tail.
Fun Fact: Dawn’s Aipom is actually Ash’s Aipom. Ash traded his Aipom in exchange for Dawn’s Buizel.
Probably my favorite trade in the whole anime.
All she wanted to do was make people smile and be amazed, and for evolving her entire species got locked away.
@@KahunaLagoona her send off episode kinda sucked too. LIke the chero for pokemon pingpong is cool? but I love ambipom and it's one of m favorites so she could of AT LEAST got something cooler
@@greyvanity Someone later down the comments thread here said: "At least Ash gave Aipom to a close friend and not to some random guy who is blatantly obviously a con man Cough Cough Primeape Cough Cough"
And I'm here thinking: "Yeah, and that Close Friend gave her away to some random guy who is blatantly obviously a con man"
I mean, what else is giving Ambipom off to some guy for Pokemon PING PONG mean? ESPECIALLY when apparently someone got the bright idea to do another Pokemon Ping Pong episode during Sun/Moon's anime and Ambipom not only doesn't appear but isn't referenced - so I'm told.
@@KahunaLagoona Buizel was not overshadow by Infernape, While Infernape obviously was his MVP, Buizel did it so well and was used in a lot of battles
Can we get “How Good Was Corsola & Cursola Actually”
Just remember it was UU for a whole month in gen 7 cause of a certain someone
Video proof?
@@oofjeff3735 pokeaims Ambipom to the top. Used it in UU and when Tier shifts happened it got enough usage to be UU
@@krookking2237 sheesh
@@oofjeff3735 oh. Sorry if that sounded a bit harsh
Ambipom: So bad it’s only set is a warning to not use it
Aipom: *tiers? More like tears*
Ambipom holds a special place in my heart due to that one time I was trolling showdown with a Fake Out + Return team and one poor unlucky soul switched a Dialga into a Low Kick.
Are we gonna forget about the time Pokeaimmd did Ambipom to the Top and helped it see some UU? 😂😂
I'm sad that you didn't mention the time it was UU in gen 7 because of Joey
One of the perfect examples of a Pokémon that should've gotten an evolution from the start.
One of the examples of needing another evolution - or at the very least a stat buff.
the gen 2 dex in general gives me big time constraint vibes, it's like gen 4 was their apology letter to gen 2 fans kinda
@@wheatleythebrick2276 Well when you think about it the Gen 2 Dex was made off the backbones of the original 151, so there was some constraints there - or rather they were originally intended for Gen 1 but never got fully realized until Gen 2... Where, the original intent with Gen 2 was to be the end of the series so they say but continued it due to money and fame.
@@KahunaLagoona that makes more sense ig
I really enjoyed that you covered little cup too, would love to see more of that!:) good video, you got my like
If only he talked about NFE mons like Rhydon, Electabuzz, Magmar, Togetic, Piloswine, Roselia and LC mons like Yanma, Misdreavus, Murkrow (outside of VGC), Sneasel, Gligar earlier
i know Rhydon usually gets banned, but still
Ambipom: *Unviable past Gen 5 in any tier its in.*
Aipom: *Slowly evolves to LITTLE CUP GOD.*
Aipom before Generation 7: Just like the others
Aipom in Generation 7: Terrorizing everyone with Tail Slaps
When aipom had more competitive history than ambipom
I really enjoyed this video!
Gens 2 & 3:
Furret: *Omae Wa Mou Shindeiru*
Aipom: *NANI!?!*
Can’t believe you didn’t include Pokeaim making Ambipom UU in Gen 7!
h i
when you get overshadowed by Farfetch'd in your own debut generation kinda says a lot
But then get compared to mega ray
ambipom could gain a "parental bond-like" ability; double tap, hits a second time with 25% of power
Aipom in LC is such a cool story so it's cool it got covered on this channel. Again, love the LC coverage.
I love how when Ambipom did good, Aipom did bad but when Aipom did good, Ambipom did bad. That just seems hilarious lol
I'm on a journey to pinpoint my favorite pokemon. And I got to say Aipom is almost there.
Ambipom to its users:
*You won't let me live, you won't let me die!!!*
I remember my gimmick Ambipom I used in singles during Gen 5 with Fake Out, Fling, Protect, Last Resort with King’s Rock. It was obviously walled by Ghost types and select Pokémon, but it was a guilty pleasure set and was hilarious sweeping with it.
Ambipom coverage post Gen 4: "Stop, stop, he's already dead!"
Keep doing the little cup coverage! It’s very interesting. 👍
Fun fact the number of tails they have is how many times they've been used
Ok
@@雪者 i dont get it
I recall the time it rose to UU because of Pokeaim propaganda
Good time even if it didn't last after the challenge was completed
LMAO
@@cantcommute The Aipom line has very few tails. The amount of tails they had means that they weren't used a lot on the competitive scene.
One of my absolute favorite pokemon! I used to run a Fake Out & Last Resort set that would absolutely wreck, back in gen 4!
Wow. Aipom was a beast in LC
Aipom is one of those mons that I was more or less indifferent to, but after raising them so much they've really grown on me. It's nice to see them have various success throughout all the gens!
Me: Watching about ambipom
FSG: It was almost always seen in the lead slot
Me, knowing what's gonna happen to dedicated leads in gen 5: oh the poor thing
I love that this channel is now talking about LC consistently. It's great, please continue to cover LC for the videos!!
Finally! I've been waiting for this one for so long. Dawn's biggest wasted potential.
It ticked me off so bad when Ash traded Aipom, and then Dawn just gave him away. My 10 year old heart was so broken seeing them just get rid of her. TwT
At least Ash gave Aipom to a close friend and not to some random guy who is blatantly obviously a con man. Cough cough, Primeape, cough cough.
Same here. I was waiting for this one for so long!
I gave my collection of pokemon cards about two boxs full and the just ripped and gave it away😢
And Buizel could've stayed with Dawn or not be caught at all.
Always great to see some attention to my favorite Normal Type!
It’s Pokémon like ambipom that make me question why tiers aren’t continuously updated and allow bad mons to possibly drop yo lower tiers like Ambipom Electivior and Dusknoir deserve better
I was wanting an Aipom and Ambipom video 😁 they're my favorite Normal types from Johto/Sinnoh
So basically Ambipom hates the one who love him
I think my favourite thing about these videos is that we get to see all the amazing work the Pokemon Battle Revolution and Pokemon Stadium animators did to animate all of the NFE pokemon, fantastic animations that may never have been seen before now.
Ambipom and Aipom viability are like a parallel to each other, while Ambipom gets worse, Aipom gets better.
Love the content! I would love to see more Little Cup coverage, the little ones never get any love!!
I'm surprised you didnt mention Ambipom's small stint in gen 7 UU popularized by Pokeaim's series laddering with it
It's funny because I loved using Ambipom and considered him a decent option, but DPPt UU was pretty much the only format I ever spent a ton of time in until this gen's VGC, so I guess I hit that magical sweet spot.
Let’s gooooooo Birthday Episode 🥳
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday
Happy Birthday!
Thank you all! 😂
Love how you are covering little cup recently!
I recall the time it rose to UU because of Pokeaim propaganda
Good time even if it didn't last after the challenge was completed
It must be mentioned that Aipom utterly rules over Gen 3 ZU, though.
