It was at one of those Katrina benifits in '05 . I remember him wearing that Jazz Fest hat and playing the song solo. He recorded the song in New Orleans , produced by Allen Toussaint in the 70's for the album There Goes Rhymin' Simon. He was recording during Carnival and was inspired to write this song.
To Cristie S, Missing lyric is 'I'll wear that starry crown'......... Great tune and never difficult with internet to find most things and with a song this good not that difficult to find all the lyrics if you don't hear clearly!! Paul Simon...God bless the Legend!!
TheDavidgodsell: The original didn't have the Dixie Hummingbirds. It was The Reverend Gary Jeter. One of the finest falsettos in gospel music. The hummingbirds were on the album. But only on Loves Me Like A Rock.
I prefer him in this setting with just an acoustic guitar like in the old days. I loved his first three solo albums but after that he seemed to loose his way. I could never get into 'Graceland' and preferred his earlier work.
One of my favorites! It seems that all of Simon’s songs are my favorites ! Such an original story teller and musician.🎶💕
Paul Simon is one of the most amazingly versatile talents of our time
Just the best version of this classic song for me: )
Paul is probably the greatest living American songwriter. Acoustic version makes it sound more personal.

Robert Middlemiss agree Paul is America’s greatest living song writer
Carole King must be considered as well.
For me, those would be Brian Wilson and Laura Nyro.
And Bob Dylan, maybee, i dont know🎉

Can't believe I haven't commented on this before. It is the essence of New Orleans. He's got it down exactly.

Let the music wash your soul...
The most perfect sentence??
Love the entrance of the jazz band on this. Laissez les bons temps rouler. :)

Every good boy deserves fruit.
I'm digging the tuba...he he.
Great song - I like the original recorded version with The Dixie Hummingbirds
TheDavidgodsell: The original didn't have the Dixie Hummingbirds. It was The Reverend Gary Jeter. One of the finest falsettos in gospel music. The hummingbirds were on the album. But only on Loves Me Like A Rock.
love love love this version. Where and when did this vdo? D
2024 carnival

Hearts and Bones was a good later album, better than "Still Crazy..." in my opinion . I agree Graceland is a little overrated though.
Then, you have missed a lot of truly great music. Paul Simon is a legend and one of the absolute greats. But, to each their own.
He did not lose his way. His songs in the later albums are as great as his earlier works. I would say they are better written than a lot of S&G songs.
Is this mindblowing performance available on DVD? Please say yes!
how I want to copy this song !! is there any guitar tab code ?
bob james !!!!!!!!!!!!! sampled by Run DmC
True but the Bob James' version overshadows Paul's version.
When everybody thinks you're great you can turn in performances that would get you thrown off a folk-club stage
Sorry, I must say this is surely the worse version of this song I have EVER heard. Can he not open up his mouth and sing
His song - he can sing it however he likes
