Your story is truly inspiring, I know the real Vishavjit may not read this but on the off chance he does I want you to know that I have had similar things happen to me because of my religion and I have always thought that if I just show everyone else I am like them then I will be accepted no matter what I am. Thank you so much for what you continue to do, and I truly hope that your patriotism and humanity is never questioned again.

I had the great privilege to grow up in a Sikhi-heavy area of the UK. My friends growing up were Sikhi, I learnt of their faith, I have spent time in a Gurdwara and shared Langar with brothers and sisters. I have tried (and admittedly failed a few times) to slowly read the Guru Granth Sahib. I could never ask for a better friend or neighbour than the Sikhi I have come to know, and many of their fathers and mothers, uncles and aunts, told me of the assassination of Gandhi and the subsequent disapora.
Thank you for this beautiful little story, it's made me think a lot about the people I grew up with ❤️

I may be of the interpretation that there are people who don’t belong in this country, and people that shouldn’t be allowed in here as well.
But I also believe that America is an ideal as opposed to a nation. This idea flourished past the bloody history America has. Anyone is and can be an American.
Your race, ethnicity, religion, or creed doesn’t stop you from being an American, you don’t even have to be a citizen. Being an American is about a aspiration of freedom and perseverance against tyranny.
Very beautiful artwork in this film, and a truly polarizing story.

@@seanmurry6903this is a gross oversimplification, but when a Sikhi man undertakes and joins the Khalsa (basically a formal initiation into the Sikhi faith) they quite often take the surname or title 'Singh' if they did not have it already. Singh translates to 'lion', which is why you will see those familiar with the faith often refer to them as lions, or the lions of the Punjab. It is also a reference to how for a long period of time the Sikhi faith was forced to adopt a very martial stance, to protect their independence from both Hindu and Islamic kingdoms that bordered them around the Punjab region.

I know firsthand how cosplay can completely cut through social anxiety. How it turns that voice that says you aren't welcome in a space, or that people are at-best apathetic to your existence or even hostile to it and drowns it out in a flood of excitement and enthusiastic welcome.
This takes that concept to an EXPONENTIALLY-higher level. Seeing people create their own, personalized version of an iconic character and connecting with others through it is so heartening and inspiring. As conflicted as I get with the subjects of patriotism and American iconography, Singh really embodies that idealism that a lot of us still aspire to despite knowing that it clashes frequently with our history and national reality.

What an amazing story! I loved the striking artstyle, like a living comic book, and the pacing of the story was so well done. It was masterful how you covered off some very heavy experiences but also left a message of hope and joy at the end, this is definitely something people of any age could connect with. I love the concept of superhero narratives as humanizing tools, and I feel like now is the perfect time for it - especially with characters like Pavitr Prabhakar / Spiderman India in the latest Spiderverse movie! If they ever make a Captain American multiverse or reboot Vishavjit Singh should definitely play himself in it!!

Sihks are awesome, my mom, who is a Christian, went to the golden temple in India and was fed. She was so happy and says visiting the temple is the most beautiful experience she had had in India, along side from making it to the everest base camp.

Being Punjabi myself I related to this story quite a bit, especially with the post 9/11 treatment, but in a way I too became a patriot in a different sense, and when I show it to the world, they show love back. Never be afraid to show the world who you really are, even amidst disdain.

Great Animation! But an even greater story that drives the point home about Sikhs and Sikhism. A much misunderstood race of good people who are peace loving and God fearing. Thanks a lot for this video. 🙏🙏🙏
