    The hearing aids still annoy me as they just randomly appear on sims with no actual logic. I don’t mind if my toddler ages up with a hearing aide, there is story telling in that but instead of the game marking him as hard of hearing, when he ages up the whole ‘accessory’ might disappear. Why are medical devices ‘accessories’ in CAS. They should have some sort of tag/section where if you give a sim a medical device at any point, it stays consistent through their life unless the player changes it. But as Sims 4 doesn’t even seperate eye glasses for sight from sunglasses for accessorizing, how do I expect them to be consistent with other medical devices….Edit for 🌭

      Omg forgot that irk too... and while focused on the need for a hard of hearing...WTF is the dietary trait for glucose monitors!!!! I mean they can exclude meats for vegans, dairy for lactose in tolerance but they couldn't give us one for sweets????!!!!! And I mean that would have been so so easy... Sim each cupcakes or ice cream ect...and gets a "dazed" emotion unless they have their glucose monitor. I mean that's not even coming up with a new setting of coding from scratch. The game already has dietary exclusion codes and emotional responses to ignoring them.

      I agree. They should be there to accommodate players who want to make their Sims have these disabilities. But the percentage of Sims walking around with these disabilities is much higher than what actual occurs in life. I have multiple Sims that age up with hearing aids or toddlers sleeping with glasses on in every family, plus a good percentage of townies have them as well. Unless it seems likely, I am constantly in CAS removing these items.

    One thing that annoys me a lot is how they added headscarves but not a lot of modest clothing options. I make observant Jewish and Muslim sims a lot and I always struggle dressing them up because the options are way too limited, and some are deceiving. There’s this formal all-body outfit (base game I think??) that has long sleeves, high neckline, and long skirt plus the color combinations are all pretty but it has no back 😭 I mean if they just allow layering tops then I’ll be really happy because it opens up a lot of different and unique combinations.
    CC creators really carry my gameplay but we shouldn’t rely on CC for a game we paid lots of money for .

    just a note regarding your wording for disabilities! i saw that you used the term "differently abled"/"people with different abilities" in this video, but many disabled people like myself actually don't like this phrase because it treats the word "disabled/disability" as something offensive or "dirty." it's the same issue with encouraging "person-first" language like saying "person with a disability/person with autism" instead of "disabled person/autistic person," with the intention being that the Person is centered first instead of the disability. like i saw someone online say -- if you forget that i'm a Person when you say the disability part first, i think that's a you problem!
    TLDR, most disabled people actually prefer using "disabled person/disability" instead of "differently abled person/different abilities" because it's important to work against the stigma that comes with the word "disability." and the fact is -- disabled people Are disabled! we don't have Different abilities, we simply Lack certain abilities, and using the word "disability" isn't offensive. "disabled" is not a dirty word and we shouldn't be afraid to use it :)
    great video! i totally agree with the pronouns thing, i was so excited to try out they/them pronouns only to find that the grammar... does Not work. i didn't know that it doesn't accommodate other languages either or that you're not able to Change Keybinds in the game, that makes the whole thing so much more messed up lol

    I will say as someone who is disabled, I am VERY happy that they added cosmetic medical devices because my simself finally can look like me, but I'm upset that the same can't be said about my fellow disabled simmers. Not to mention that it puts chest binders as SLEEP WEAR.

    The simplest answer for no prosethtics/wheelchairs is..they are lazy. Sims won't even go up and down the wedding aisle properly. They will bike through walls and people. Their pathing choices are bugged as hell. The fact that a cake has to be perfectly aligned on a counter to blow out the candles is wild. This is supposed to be a "smarter generation of Sims" yet if my Sim eats a flirty cookie, and then someone else next to get gets flirty just cause shes flirty, it can count as cheating on her spouse. Half baked lazy ideas. So yeah, the inclusivity is 100% performative. The fact that black hairs were so horrible up until like 2-3 years ago tells you all you need to know. Ooo a binder, most of my trans friends do not walk around in their binder only. Shoutout to all the modders out there having to make the shit the Sims team will simply not give us and DOING IT BETTER. Shoutout to the ones fixing and improving broken packs, like Carl Sims fixing Dine-out that we've had for YEARS and its stll busted as hell.

      youve gotta admit though that prosthetics and especially wheelchairs would mean reformatting every single interaction that a sim can perform plus finding workarounds for actions that those in wheelchairs/with prosthetics can't do, like ride a broom, crouch on their knees, sit cross-legged... etc. it would be a massive, massive undertaking.

      @@Abertoria It's true, but 4th iteration into the game it shouldn't be an after thought. People were asking for wheelchairs for years. They made horses and bikes work. The reality is its not a priority to them and never was. EA ain't gonna pay for the team or time it takes.

      I don't understand what different gameplay elders need? Elders are just adults who do all the things adults do. My parents are 85 and 86, and they are just living life like me. They can go everywhere and do everything the other Sims do. Older people like to bowl, we have bowling. They like to eat and we have restaurants. We have parks and recreation centers. Also, they wear jeans like the rest of us. Old ladies aren't walking around in scarves and granny dresses.

OTOH, I hear you on the clothing; no matter how sick she is, my mother never leaves the house without her statement jewelry, form-fitting clothes and designer shoes. I am 62 and I belong to powerlifting groups on FB for older ladies who are powerlifting in their 70's, so I guess I have a different perspective. Does every type of illness, disability, etc. that exists in the world need to be in a game? I personally like to play in a world that's less depressing than real life, but I know that's just me. Obviously, a lot of players are looking for the mayhem!

    There is a lot that can be done to improve the game accessibility for us visual impaired, but I have to admit that even the mere possibility to zoom the UI was a godsend for me. Back in Sims 3 times, I had to play the game on lower resolution than my 24" FHD monitor supported, simply because I was not able to read the text on FHD resolution. Now, with 27" FHD monitor, it's much better and I can play Sims 3 on FHD, but being able to resize the UI, like Sims 4 has now, still helped me a lot to be able to read the text.

    🌭😂 as someone who uses a wheelchair, cane and forearm crutches throughout the year, I agree that it is greatly!!!! missing from the game. And yeah also the hearing aid thing kind of irks me because it's nothing but cosmetic, there is no "hard of hearing" trait. Which to me is a completely missed opportunity on the part of EA games.
    And yes the binders, so terrible they aren't functional, and also, okay great women can wear binders, but men can't wear padded bras, they can wear the hip pads, also not functional, as underwear but that's it.
    If they really wanted it to be inclusive they would have made the hearing aids functional, they would have made the binders functional, and they would have made the scars more customizable.

  • @KellieRobinson965
    @KellieRobinson965 2 месяца назад +6

    As someone who is colourblind, the colourblind comment felt a little bit like an extra throw-in for lack of any other examples to give. Nothing in the game is particularly non-colour blind friendly in terms of the UI. Obviously clothing, assets, etc are influenced by colour blindness but this is true in real life and adding a colour-blind overlay to those wouldn't make sense.
    Also worth noting is the 'Insane' turned 'Erratic' trait. Changing it to erratic felt like a politically correct fix-it bandage rather than any semblance of actual care. The Sims can still talk to themselves and such. Either lean into mental health disorders or don't, EA - rather than just sitting on the fence.

    • @rowan404
      @rowan404 Месяц назад +2

      I am a voice-hearer and I call _myself_ insane so that others take my mental health more seriously. My mom keeps telling me about “healthy voice-hearers” but I have had suicidal thoughts since age 11; I am _far_ from healthy; and just because I’m not _currently_ suffering from hostile voices (did in the past) doesn’t mean I’m sane enough to, say, get a job. I know she’s trying to make me feel better, but that’s not what I need to feel better. The “erratic”trait reminds me of that.
      On a lighter note, the game knew about me being “erratic” before I did. Shortly after the personality quiz in CAS was added, I tried using it to make an updated simself. One of the questions pertained to being in a club, and I eagerly chose the answer “me and my imaginary friends” or something along those lines. I was thrilled because I felt insecure about still having an “imaginary friend” as a teenager and I thought the game was reaffirming me. Unfortunately, it was quite the opposite. My sim had the erratic trait as a result and I was pissed that not even The Sims 4 considered it normal to have imaginary friends past childhood. (The Sims 3, on the other hand…)

    Queer person with multiple diagnoses here, what they have done so far is ok-ish, especially for queer folks. However, it would be nice to be able to customise things like how quickly your sim's energy need drains, making the cosmetic disability items not cosmetic, letting the binder be able to be layered on top of clothing and even just a category for items that can layer for more representation. Also, it would be nice to have some autism/adhd representation. EA is praised for being one of the most inclusive companies, yet in their games, it is not reflected. Moreover, it would be nice to have a nonbinary body option that the player could tweak to their preference. Plus the option to use more than 1 set of pronouns.
    Sorry for ranting and rambling, but I felt the need to point this out.

    • @Abertoria

      as another disabled/queer person, I do not want to see autism and adhd in the game because there's no one way that our disorders manifest. At best, it would be a massive overgeneralization/oversimplification of deeply impactful and diverse disorders.

    I don't get why "custom pronous" should be added to other languages.
    In my language it wouldn't simply work, and doesn’t make any sense to have them in the first place considering how it is structurated. People are defenetly not waiting EA for telling them how to speak.

      I'm a Spanish speaker (traditionally very gendered language) and I know many people who have worked neutral pronouns into it. I get it might be a nightmare to code (they could barely code it in English), but nonbinary folks exist in all languages

    • @petrnovak7235
      @petrnovak7235 Месяц назад +2

      @@natsby4life842 Yes, I agree. I am a Czech speaker and our language is very gendered too. And only very recently we got the debate about gender neutral wording, with some progressive media coming with their non-gender variations, in cooperation with the non-binary community. But it's often dismissed by language purists, who don't necessarily have to be transphobic, just purists who don't want any changes. But the language is evolving and often absorb influences from other languages. Czech language has a lot of words from German language and more recently from English language. It's just normal language evolution. For example, like and dislike on social media is still like and dislike in Czech language, simply because it's easier to say and write than the awkward Czech equivalent and majority simply accepted that, including a lot of older people. So, why not having the same with gender neutral pronouns? Yes, for game coding that may be a nightmare, but for language evolution, it's so much needed and one example I can mention is Pokémon. In English, Pokémon are often referred to as "it" to avoid gendering them. However, in Czech dub of anime (games were never translated to Czech language), Pokémon are almost often referred to by male pronouns and it's often awkward, especially if such Pokémon is later revealed to be female. Or, it it's genderless in games. And the same goes to Czech Pokémon RUclipsrs and streamers who are doing the same, for lack of better options. So, yeah, our language needs to move from being gendered to being gender neutral to be more inclusive.

    • @elia9188
      @elia9188 Месяц назад

      @@natsby4life842 When I say it wouldn't work I really mean it. First of all in my language aren't the pronous to determine the phrase subject's gender, but the words themselves (the pronouns themselves can never appear in a phrase, and the phrase gender in many cases don't even coincide with the person actual gender, but the one assigned to what it's interacting). This mean that the fancy "your pronouns box" box would be there just for aesthetics if all the game text retained their gendered words. On top of that the "solutions" people have proposed are contraddictory, don't actually create a "gended neautral", and sound more like an elitist lingo than something that can actually be used in the everyday language.
      The cherry on top is that NO ONE ever asked some "non-binary" what they think about this, it's always some "white ciseth" upper class scholar talking on their behalf, so honestly I don't even care. I just know a The Sims 4 forcefully turned gender neutral using this lingo would be a mess to read and wouldn't actually have a "gender neutral" texts.
      The irony is that older sims games used a lot to write the text boxes in the third person and using the "formal pronoun" (wich is the same for both genders) because at the time it was perceived to be more professional, while The Sims 4 has everything witten using the second person. So it really looks like a made up problem IMHO, because the devs could just rewrite the game text boxes using the formal pronoun so that all the sims have the same texts without references to their gender and many in my country wouldn't even notice. But with this the "custom pronouns" would really be just an aesthetic box in CAS.
