I’m 60 and have cancer. I’ve worked my entire life and built a good life for my family. Now I’m watching everything I worked for wash away like sand in the beach.
Great channel, Tom. I have been watching your other channel for a few years and really enjoy your style and knowledge. Even though this one is different, you take the same approach to the content and concepts. I thank you for sharing your experiences with us. To me, it is valuable information as well as practical. We think alike, and I wish I lived closer so we could become friends and hang out once in a while. I wish you and Mrs. River the best with the new home. Keep up the great work, and God bless!
In war, money or debt loose all value. Culture disappears on a battlefield. I don't know what the masses are expecting. Our future is not about government. It's will be individual survival. How do you escape? You don't! Fight to live.
Tom, we are definitely living in some questionable times and as a father with two teenagers I'm really struggling to see a bright future for them. My wife and I are strongly considering leaving the central Florida area and moving somewhere that we would have the ability to be a little more self sufficient. The struggle for us is starting over somewhere new, leaving good job's, and our currently "affordable mortgage.
James you're a good example of what I was talking about. You might be far better off in the future where you are? You have a temperate climate and could grow a lot of things in a small space almost year round. At the same time the economy in Florida is booming and there are lots of opportunities for your kids. Imagine having kids in Montana with rich people buying up the entire state just like Florida but with almost no economic opportunities. What could a kid in Montana do to possibly earn enough money to buy land and a house and compete against all of the wealthy people coming in from places like California. I know Florida is booming and there are also a lot of people coming in from other states but the difference you're teenagers can go find good paying jobs. I guess my point we don't know what the best option is for dealing with the changes we're seeing.
The safest place is in His Will. We are stuck ( 70’s) in central Texas, surrounded by progress, horrible traffic. To buy down, we will spend more. So we remain here and pray, and we know that Jesus will never leave us nor forsake us. God will provide. He promised. Remember the children of Israel, 40 years in the desert and they had no stores around them. Stay encouraged, Lean on Him, not our own understanding
Tom I'm 73 I don't worry about me I worry about my children, grand children and great grand children along with the people of this nation have seen a lot of things in my life time what we are experiencing are a lot of the bible is being fulfilled people realize this that read it it is the tomorrows newspaper appreciate your thoughts and mine are a lot the same keep praying for our nation and people this is our only hope enjoy your channel God Bless.
"Why is there poverty? Because the Functionaries eat up all the money in taxes."(Tao) "The lazy pay tribute." (Solomon) "More laws, more crime and strange things happen."(Tao) I think the strange things is describing chaos.... The key factor is balance... Trying to find a balance between modern tech and what worked for thousands of years. "The only wise use of money, is to do or get things that reduce or eliminate your dependency on money." Most people spend money on vanities beyond their actual needs. Minimalism is incredibly powerful. Basically, pays to think Neoindigenous, how to blend modern tech to do archaic things that fulfill needs... An example might be building a light weight welded aluminum Gypsy wagon designed to be horse drawn.... I notice the Amish have really nice horse genetics... Its almost like without the car payments, license, insurance, fuel, parts, tags, registration, and traffick tickets, you can afford nice transportation and enjoy the passing scenery at 10 mph and not be in a hurry to get to a miserable job. their carriages seem to clip along nicely... Soon AI, and billions of useless office and bureaucratic jobs lost... Its probably not gonna work to tax the few who still have jobs. And people with no jobs cant buy stuff... So either they need to get rid of the people or free them up. Or pay them from tech taxes... I think they'd be smart to give land and encourage self sufficiency. "There are machines that will do the work of a hundred men, but if you use them, the people will be idle."(Tao)
Trade deficit is bringing wealth into our country. Someone owns the national debt, so overall it's a wash between basically mortgage holders and people's retirement funds if you follow the chain. Poverty isn't coming. Excessive Opulence and Exuberant wealth might be ending, but real wealth is not typically destroyed. Real wealth is a home, a car, a table, hot water, or food. All of those we make domestically. We produce lumber and cement and building materials domestically or in canada. We build the homes here. We can produce cars, and Mexico can produce enough to continually push down the average age of cars on the road. Furniture and Appliances last for decades and we can easily transition to domestic manufacturing of refrigerators or blenders. We produce our own energy, we have vast swaths of land that can be used for wind, solar, and we have ample natural gas. Hot water and electricity aren't going away. We are a net exporter of food, so that's not going away. The only thing that's going away is people who live their life leeching off the system producing nothing of value for themselves or others. That has to stop.
It's all good! Imagine this one step at a time: you are a tree; in a forest; for yeears; through seasons and storms and hot sunny days and freezing nights; growing leaves and dropping them; tradition. Along comes a man with a saw; changes are evident; the felling; the limbing; the dragging; the loading; the hauling. So many sudden changes since man entered the scene with a desire and a dream. Imagine the milling and drying and selling and buying, another's dreams are living, another's dying. Here we are in the chaos; under the skillful eye and hand of another man, to be crafted into the furniture that stands in the home, serving for generations a family with dreams and heartaches and dinners and traditions. The furniture reflecting now as antique, with hand oil patina and a lifetime of quiet service. Perhaps you became $5 bundles of firewood, a bench, a barn beam, or all of these, it's just a dream. God knows what is coming for us, but it will be okay. Thanks for the inspiration.
God Bless Ya n Yours. Well Said Sir As others said am concerned for the youngens ,the elderly n those with a disability... As it rougher on them.Bible is clear some not so good things already happened n more to come before it gets better. Prayers for those n us all.
Tom, I appreciate your thoughts. I have thought about these things as well. I have 4 young kids (16,14,12,9). The tendency is to try to stick your head in the sand and wish it wasn't so, but we can't do that. Stay smart, stay nimble, and keep your powder dry!
i think you covered some major issues that concern the dilemmas that we face as we go forward into the future... anyway, as always, we'll make some good choices as well as really bad choices.... that's human nature and no matter what there will always be human nature... so trusting and having faith in God's plan seems to be the rational thing to do...feeding the billions of people is a daily miracle...
This is one of your best and most thought-provoking talks. However, I am sad to say that I don't believe that we mortals have answers to the problems you addressed. We are too far down the road to turn back, and anything short of a complete reversal of direction will be too little to be effective. Humanity has constructed its own death trap, and is marching inexorably for it. I know that sounds defeatist to many, and if it does, I suggest reading Revelation chapters 21 and 22. In that view of the future, the government will be perfect: a theocracy, and I hope to be part of it.
The book of Revelation speaks of difficult times coming.

Hang in there !
Life is a roller coaster. You have ups and downs. It sounds like you have an up in front of you.
Best Wishes from Montana! M.H.
